I made this purely out of impulse after revisiting the original Moon Rises animation.
Or perhaps not exactly original, as Duo Cartoonist shut down their channel due to COPPA, which sucks. That aside, Ponyphonic are a group of astute musicians, and I highly recommend listening to their songs, especially for that wave of juicy nostalgia we all know and love.

So is he an full blood angel or halfblood angel shamed and abused into hiding his wings, making him think the other angels won't accept him because he's earthbound? And he eventually just snaps and goes for it in the most twisted way possible because that's the result they got after abusing him for years and he's joined by demons who want to take down the angels too?

EDIT: Hold on a second! The lore that you’re about to read is somewhat outdated. For the most recent lore from “The Horsemen”, check out my instagram @allzyfont_ Original comment from ~2020: Super, duper, duper close! Avery is an Aequanimitas, son of a Throne named Alisha Aequanimitas. She bore two children not through the womb, but by sacrificing her angelic nature into two human vessels. This means that Avery, and his twin, Erin both have a human and angelic nature, but they aren't as smoothly combined as if Alisha had found a way to give birth like a human (which is not possible unless Alisha wanted to give her children a case of Original Sin.) Buuuut for the sake of simplicity, we're calling them half-bloods! They're very different from other angels in the sense that their minds age with earthly time, and that they have an earthly mentality. They experience empathy more than they do the duties of true Heavenly angels. Blah blah blah, human father, traumatic orphaning, amnesia, horrible childhood under Rory Orion blah blah blah- five hundred years later- Avery and his twin sister have been separated during an event called the First Contact, in which the entire planet is desert-ified. The humans don't take kindly to both angels and demons and as a result, he cannot show his wings at all. During this time, Avery sets up a system to combat the Slave Trade, which the humans set up because haha, phobia against the divine. However, Avery starts to become slightly jealous of the other three who brought the First Contact. They're able to show themselves and the people listen to them. Their personas built up by the cults of the area paint them as good and benevolent; but they kind of leave him behind. Keep in mind that this is only one factor; good intentions pave the way to Hell. Although Avery just wants the best for those around him, he often does drastic things to obtain them due to the desperation of the situation. (Part of this sucky mentality is from Horrible Childhood Under Rory Orion! If you have complete control over something, then you won't get fked over!) What wasn't shown was that the Devil himself takes this as a gorgeous opening and takes it, twisting his psyche to the point of total corruption, and in which Avery abandons his earthly identity and instead takes up his Heavenly name: Sapientiae Aequanimitas. SOooo that army? It's his brainwashed organization who used to not like slavery but now *are* basically slaves which is incredibly ironic

Um maybe the guy was cast out of the winged people clan because of some power he has, and he decided to use his power for revenge, amplifying it using or gaining evil moon power by sacrificing his humanity. Using it, he created an army to conquer the winged people. The temple is the temple of some deity that grants evil moon power to whoever performs the ritual and has the power that the guy has. He forsook the deity of the winged people, which was the glass pane he broke, choosing whatever deity whose power he was cast out for. Does this count as a lore guess?

Very close, but not quite! Sapientiae doesn’t exactly gain power from the moon. In this animatic, it’s almost completely symbolic. Buuuut you got his intentions spot-on! Because you’re our lucky first guesser, I’mma give you a few hints: Sapientiae/Avery is an angel, and has lived for hundreds upon hundreds of years. He’s already had the abilities that have been shown in the animatic beforehand, but lived as an outcast, hiding his wings. Who is the identity of the person with the bloodied glass panel and who are the ghost-like figures shown around the middle of the animatic?

Ok, if Sapientiae or the god he is an agent of is the one pictured with a bright orb in the glass panel that is bloodied, maybe he used to be worshipped before he was cast out and the worshippers killed. Then, the army is of their lost souls, brought to fight using his power. That or he was in a high position in angel society before being forced or framed, somehow cast down. Followers would also exist and be killed. The one who instigated his persecution was the cloaked angel lady at 1:25, along with other accomplices or people who were manipulated. The ghosty people might be other angels on the high council or other angels who were in his service but turned on him. The other angels, maybe because he was particularly powerful or made a dramatic exit, foretold his return, and wrote it as a prophecy for preparations to be made. I feel like I’m further than the first time, am I? If so, I have plenty more ideas.

Or, he’s been mourning and hiding for centuries, but when he goes to the temple for any answer or consolation from his god, his answer is silence. That is his last step to fall into the spiraling darkness. So, he removes all restraints and ties to the deity.

Heya! The glass windows are pre-painted pieces that I reused because I'm lazy, haha Really, it's all about thick lines and large, obvious shapes/stiff-ish silhouettes, along with a lot of well-placed values. Think well about lighting! Where do you want your viewer to look when they glance at a stained glass window?
