Just like another comment here, I was listening to this today myself. How you can disconnect your left arm from your right (or sides of your brain) still mystifies me. It is incredible that you are able to keep them synced, yet playing completely different patterns. And Steely Dan is not for beginners in anyone's music book. Excellent use of a tremendous amount of talent, Moot.

thank you for the kind words my friend! I really don’t know how I’m able to do it, besides just having done it for thousands of hours since about 2013! Prior to getting into a trio situation in which I play left hand bass, I totally sucked at it! My left hand dexterity was terrible...just had to practice and get good!
@rikshaw22334 жыл бұрын
mootbooxle . Thanks for connecting the dots, practice is key to getting good. It's just your talent & the smooth way you play, it sounds like you were Born with it.

Unbelievable talent!...and some complain about the Karp smaller keys... they don't seem to be a problem for you, are they?
@mootbooxle2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I actually find the slim keys on the KARP to be very comfy and they allow me to play huge intervals! It’s a bit of an adjustment from full sized keys as far as muscle memory goes, but not a big problem!

In the 1960s people were in awe that 4 guys from Liverpool could be such great musicians coming off an era where it was mainly big bands of many musicians for one song. Then in the 1990s people were again in awe that this time 3 guys from Washington could have such great talent. Ladies and Gentlemen...... the new champions with only two players is on KZbin leaving the world in awe..... and we just saw them do it. I have seen one man bands....... but they still suck. So for now the title belongs to Moot and Darrell.

Sometimes I wonder: how boring would it be if everyone had the same amount of talent for everything? I guess we'd end up with a grey drab goo of mediocrity.. everything would be kinda same-ish. I'm glad that obviously isn't the case, and that everyone has talent for different things. You seem to have been endowed with an unproportionally big amount of talent for making music though. and we're all the better for it! Keep'em coming!

Are you using a harmonizer/talkbox effect on the vocals at some points? I couldn't see a sound source for that in the video and it was tripping me out.

yes! I have an Electro-Harmonix vocoder connected to my main keyboard via MIDI so I can add harmonies!
