I recently bought Fluval Stratum for an old family fish tank that became mine. I have this really ugly low layer of neon blue puke gravel, and on the back it says not to mix with other gravels. I have plants with established root systems in my tank. Can I just cover up the gravel, or do I just take out the gravel and risk damaging my plants?
@joaquinriquelme56392 жыл бұрын
@@victorlopez3665 Okay, thank you! Is it possible for me to just put the stratum on top of the gravel? Me and my mum bought a small-fish bag, and when I read the back on how to prepare it, it said to not mix with gravel. Can I just put the Stratum on top?

Thanks for your content! It's amazing how much inspiration KZbin is providing nowadays. When I was a teen in the 2000s I kept an ant colony, neocaridinas and mangrove crabs and a bunch of other animals like rats. Unfortunatly I wasted ten years of my life to drug addiction and hadn't even a place for myself let alone vivariums. Well, I quit heroin and coke almost 5 years ago and have my life under control again, so I considered having tanks again. At the moment I have a 126 litres tank with a small colony of neocaridinas - as soon as the population is more stable I will introduce a Cherax crayfish. In addition I have a 25 litres tank running in, intended for CPO's, and an aquaterrarium for vampire crabs is in the making. Meanwhile I'm binging content like yours. It's incredible how much the market has changed within the last 10 or 15 years! I'm euphoric. 😅

Omg a new FTR video makes my day better! Today, my betta fish got sick. It didn't want to eat and it was bobbing upside down in the surface. I knew something was wrong because Kylo (my betta fish) was breathing rapidly and sleeping sideways but I didn't alert my parents because I thought I was paranoid and usually when I tell my parents something, they'll just reply with "he'll survive". I couldn't enjoy my lunch because I was so worried with the condition of my fish. My Dad thinks he's the expert in fish keeping and he's always making me stick to his old ways to keeping fish even though I've watch tons of KZbin videos especially FTR videos for best betta care. He used to care for betta fish and breed them. The longest he had lived for two years. Anyway, back to present, me and my Mum quickly took Kylo to an aquarium supplies shop and she asked what's wrong with him. Basically, the problem was the water and the stress Kylo got from travelling back from my hometown. The owner said to always treat the water with anti-chlorine solution which I looked at my Mum with a "I told you so" look because I have begged for anti-chlorine solution since day one of research. I am still a bit bitter because my Mum rather listened to the shop owner than me. I am glad she knows more now and I hope they'll listen to me more. I got out from the shop with blackwater extract and anti-chlorine which is a major change from just filtered tap water. I hope my betta fish will be a little better tomorrow. Update: My fish is dead.

So, I have three sailfin mollies in my saltwater tank and they are my fave fish. Why? They're a schooling fish that come in a huge variety of different colours and patterns, incredibly hardy (literally acclimated to saltwater quicker and easier than most freshwater fish acclimate to just a different freshwater tank lmao), they eat like champions and literally pick algae off of substrate, rocks, the glass, the thermometer, the wavemaker, everything they possibly can. They have great personalities and even eat from my hand! Just fantastic fish.

@natureboyy32 жыл бұрын
Hi Brook, I'm not a big fan of Ranchu's because I have the idea that they are overbred and that they get appearance changes that have disadvantages for the fish, but of course I'm not sure. Do you perhaps know more about that? Best regards... 😃
@FishForThought2 жыл бұрын
woohoo ranchu!
@Brooksalittlestream2 жыл бұрын
@@natureboyy3 hey! Yes. I definitely see them as the pugs of the fish world. They do not exist in the natural world, so your care for them cannot be an exact replica of regular goldfish care. Like pugs, you can get them from breeders who don't care about the quality of life for the animal, and don't provide decent water quality for the animals they've committed to care for. (Pugs need special care, and can have a really amazing quality of life with the right genetic lines, care, start of life, etc.) But, if you do your research, assess where your fish is coming from, see your breeders' set up, and are willing, long term, to care for the ranchu's needs, this fish can have an awesome quality of life! Honestly I have more problems with 'feeder' goldfish than ranchus. But that's a whole different topic, and doesn't diminish the idea that ranchus may not always have their needs met by their keeper. And, it can definitely be a "individual keeper" problem, rather than a "industry" problem.
@Brooksalittlestream2 жыл бұрын
@@natureboyy3 yes, goldfish do shift colors over time, especially blacks can change to reds, etc.. but I keep them for their personality, and it can be interesting to see it shift over their lifetime. My one red goldfish had a white face when I got him, but now he's got little red freckles on his face :) Dramatic, fast color change or fading can also be a sign of stress or sickness though. The wen (growth) on their heads can also become overgrown, and weigh them down. Like sheep, it is something that can and should be trimmed if it is weighing them down, and causing poor quality of life. (Not sheared, haha, but trimmed, once in a while. I've never had to do it though, as I only started keeping them last year, so mine are still young. Long winded, but hope that helps! Haha.
