@@karrggo hi! i mean that it this "possession" line, or a similar variation, will happen with any body that you've put the mark on, either late-game (having embalmed all bodies and spent a good amount of time in the shift), or late-stage possession (you're experiencing more and more haunts, and you're further along in being possessed). this can happen to any body, whether or not it's possessed. the body that is possessed is pre-determined when you start a shift.

The funny part is he's not wrong. In this game certain "ticks" have way more correlation to the body being possessed than others. For example, pretty much all bodies have at least 1 haunting sequence, so those mean nothing. And suddently appearing scratches are also common. However, 3 are very much solid indicators that you got the right one. First is smiling. If a body smiles unless you see another body have another of the strong indicators, to the flamer with it. Second is hauntings which involve bodies other than the one you're operating on. Which btw Mark also got, very strong sign that there's where you should look. And finally comes the devil's mark... and I mean literally. If you see the seal of a demon house corroborate with the computer or notepad if it is the seal from the house haunting you. If it is not, then 100% that body is innocent. If that is the right seal then so is the body and you shouldn't even think it further, to the fire with it, this is 100% reliable if it appears. So yeah, mark was right. For later levels it gets more complicated, but the first night if you see a smiler the correct reaction is to put a rock on its chest and throw it straight into the oven where it belongs.

getting possessed by not being fast enough to burn a body is not considered one of the official endings and yet it still can happen. i've seen it from jay kubzscouts. on his second try to play the game, he got possessed just the moment he was putting one of the bodies in the incinerator (really a shame because that 2nd time he might was getting the body right, the first time he burned the wrong one or spelled the demon's name wrong). you can even get possessed by just standing and not doing anything with the bodies. anywhere, anytime in the game, if you're simply not quick enough embalm the bodies and find which one is possessed, you get rebecca possessed.

@Bryan Brack the first symbol to the demon's name appears in random spots in that area (see the part where his paper combusted the first time), but since it wasn't in their usual random spots, then it was more than likely in one of the drawers that he didn't open.
