Not sure where that fuel efficiency table comes from, but I can confirm the R22 and R44 fuel numbers are grossly inaccurate. Makes me wonder about the rest of the figures. I've never seen anyone use gallons per minute, but if you convert to GPH the table has the R22 at 5.5 GPH and the R44 at 8.4. Lol just no.. R22, all models are closer to 9-9.5GPH and the 44's burn around 15.

pretty sure you dont need a license to fly this also. 2 stroke oil. GOOD 2 stroke oil can be bought at any auto parts store. which almost every town in this country has. i wouldn't worry about the oil. it also runs on PUMP fuel. so you dont need the jet fuel that the other models take.

5:38 No mention of the turbine option? Also, you have to carry oil for any piston helicopter (or a plane) anyway, oil usage is normal in aviation piston engines.
@RelativeMotionCC
@RelativeMotionCC 3 жыл бұрын
No I didn't mention it in this video since I was sticking too piston powered aircraft for this season but looking back now I suppose I should of mentioned it because it is such a great machine =D I'll be doing a whole video on it when I get into turbine rotor craft. Also the reason I mention the carrying oil in this video is you need a large amount of oil relatively in any 2 stroke and is basically consumed at a ratio very closely tied to the amount of fuel your burning. To me with 2 strokes I almost look at it as a 2nd fuel source for the engine lol which I know isn't totally fair. A 2 stroke is burning most of the oil in the engine and then gets shot out the exhaust pipe. Most of the time your even mixing the oil into the fuel which I don't recommend on a aviation 4 stroke haha :P although I don't think you mix the fuel on this helicopter because it has oil injection and actually has a oil tank (as best I can tell) anyways sorry for the novel lol but just wanted to explain my thought process and thanks for the interest : )

maintanance and repair is through the roof. just because it cost $45,000 (as much as car) doesn't mean the maintanance and repair bill is the same. you have to be diligent regarding the operational hours you put on the engine and blade because if the blade breaks in mid air, you are dead

@RelativeMotionCC
@RelativeMotionCC 3 жыл бұрын
Very interesting machine the Rotorway! Great little helicopter. I always try and highlight the pro's and con's of any helicopter. While the Rotorway has 2 seats, it also has almost 100 miles less range and I can't say I agree these are cheaper. Generally Rotorway seem to go for 50k+ while XE285's should be under 50k. This really should be the case since a Rotorway is almost 2-3 times the weight, that takes 2-3 times the raw materials to build the helicopter, thus higher production cost. Also now I'm splitting hairs somewhat but I also think the XE 285 looks better :P I would say though both are great little helicopters and would love to have either in my garage =D Thanks for the comment!
