It's a minor miracle how Hank can say the word "butts" and not miss a beat or ruffle the smooth pace of the script. It is not at all a surprise that I, a totally mature adult, also giggled like a ten year old every time he did hehehe

So bryozoa are taxonomized by their anus location. Humans are deuterostomes which means they, among other things, are taxonomized by when they develop their anuses. I'd be interested to hear what other animals are are taxonomized by their butts. I'd love for this to be a theme for a series of videos on any of the DFTBA Records' channels. Now you've piqued my interest and I'm off to go google butt holes!

Well, there are other animal clades diagnosed by (among other characteristics) lack of a butt, or secondary loss of it,¹ I believe... ¹ As in, the clade descended from ancestors with butts, yet lack that feature, themselves.

bryozoans are so weird that some *do* move. some of them use specialized zooids to move slowly, and thats pretty normal for a colony of little zooids. there's another kind though, with branches in its colony structure, and those branches have *joints*. it *walks*. very slowly, but thats still nuts

So a bryozoa colony is made of many individuals, each with its own unique and specialised roles, formed from a single individual and sharing its genetic material. Or in other words, it is a multi-multicellular animal animal.
