Writing wise, Percy Jackson. But when it comes to visuals, I love what they did to him in God of War and a mobile game called Gods of Rome. They just went full on what the lord of the dead would look like, and portrayed him as a intimidating and powerfull warrior

There's the cartoon series *_Class of the Titans_* where Hades is portrayed as he should be a good powerful God just doing his job, looking after his three headed Dog and being lovey-dovey with his wife... but unfortunately they gave the character a high squeaky voice that makes him sound silly Hades really can't catch a break🙄

I’ve liked the portrayal of Hades in Lore Olympus: it’s definitely a more modern reimagining of his and Persephone’s story, but I just love his character development in the story.

“Cerberus,” I said promptly. “But everyone knows that.” “Do you know what it means?” I opened my mouth and closed it again. I shook my head. “It is from an ancient word, kerberos. It means ‘spotted.’” I blinked. “You’re a genuine Greek god. You’re the Lord of the Underworld. And . . . you named your dog Spot?” “Who’s a good dog?” Hades said, scratching the third head behind the ears, and making the beast’s mouth drop open in a doggy grin. “Spot is. Yes, he is.” I couldn’t help it. I laughed. Hades’ eyebrows went up. He didn’t quite smile, but he nonetheless managed to look pleased. “A rare enough sound in my kingdom.” He nodded. “I am a guardian of an underground realm filled with terrible power, the warden of a nation-prison of shades. I am charged with protecting it, maintaining it, and seeing to it that it is used properly. I am misunderstood by most, feared by most, hated by many. I do my duty as I think best, regardless of anyone’s opinion but my own, and though my peers have neglected their charges or focused upon inconsequential trivialities in the face of larger problems, it does not change that duty-even when it causes me great pain. And I have a very large, and very good dog . . .” Spot’s tail thumped the side of Hades’ chair like some enormous padded baseball bat. “. . . whom other people sometimes consider fearsome.” He turned to me, put his wineglass down and regarded me frankly. “I believe,” he said, “that we have a great many things in common.” He rose and stood before me. Didn't some versions say he _wanted_ the Underworld, because unlike being the ruler of a flashy dominion like the Heavens, the Underworld was actually the ultimate power play, because everyone would have to fall under his domain eventually? Like, I've seen at least a couple of versions where he made a big huff about being stuck with it because his brothers wanted to draw straws for who'd get what, but inside he was secretly snickering "Suckers!" as his younger brothers went right for the big, flashy drama power-bases.

@@Blaze-xe8cl I've read at least one version where Hades was depicted as having feigned begrudgingly accepting the Underworld because he drew the shortest straw, but that it was done in part because he wanted it due to it being the low-key most powerful domain. The R**** of Persephone is always pulled out in opposition but the root of that word comes from an old world for stealing. Persephone was stolen from Demeter. Zeus arranged the marriage of his daughter with Hades and told Hades how to show Persephone a grand act. The whole story was Zeus' idea. Persephone is not shown to be unwilling, but also not shown to be willing. In the myth she is not a real character, it is a story about Zeus, Hades, and Demeter to explain natural phenomenon. The myth of their marriage is also far younger than persephone as the underworld goddess though. She is an ancient goddess that predates Ancient Greece and had always been the goddess of roots and death. Too many people try to use Persephone as a weapon against Hades even though all of the worst versions of the story were written by Christian monks rather than people who worshiped him.

Because he should be. That is what gods are - forces of nature. Trying to project humanity on divinity is just horrid concept. Main difference: Interaction with the enviroment. People cannot change things. So, they accept things and give up. When a god exists, reality is their to mold. Anything and everything can be undone by the virtue of god’s imagination. Essentially, here is the comparison: Humans climb the mountain to get through it. God just tears the mountain down, along with everybody still climbing it. Gods SHOULD be seen as forces of nature. As hurricanes or earthquakes. Not “good” or “bad”. Just neutral, impactful. Essentially, gods would logically hold very alien, not human-centric morality (if everything is a product of your imagination, life is dispensable and meaningless, as it can be rewritten at any point)… and be walking nuclear explosions with personality (and therefore temper). Zeus is the EXACT embodiment of that kind of god (or, by more modern popular culture, TV Homelander) - he lashes out and gets what he wants, because he is superior to others by miles, and therefore, it is an optimal course of actions within the environment. Difference is that “Boys” is a human-centric TV show and villain is supposed to lose. Whereas Zeus was rightfully feared and never lost. He was the oppressive, powerful being that exercised his superiority rightfully over anything and everything. It might not be a good thing by human standards, but by divine standards, that is peak of the line.

@@3DSDF That was so funny. Hades going on a rant about how stressed he is and how he's spending so much money opening and building new sections to accommodate all the new souls coming and then Percy just 'this might be a bad time to mention it...but Charon wants a raise"

When I was a little kid, about 6 or 7, there was this Myth-o-Mania book series I started reading. The series covered various Greek myths -- told from Hades' point of view, and he knows his readers include younger kids as well, which means it's pretty easy to read. In this version of the myths, the Gods also have access to some "modern" technology that we're familiar with, like cell phones and television, which of course the humans know nothing about, which is just kind of a funny note. But this depiction of Hades shows him as a pretty nice guy, kind of irritable sometimes, but it's understandable because he's the oldest god who tries to keep all the other siblings (but especially Zeus) out of trouble. But even then they don't hate each other, Zeus just really annoys Hades because he keeps goofing up and making oopsies and asking his responsible older brother to fix his messes so Hades gets stuck with the dirty work, but Hades is too good hearted most of the time to insist Zeus fix it himself. Hera is shown to be not quite an ally but is more sympathetic and understanding because Zeus is cheating all the time and is wildly irresponsible, so she "gets" it. And Poseidon has the portrayal of a party guy while also being pretty relaxed, and the relationship with Poseidon and Hades is much better, although Poseidon sometimes goofs up too, and then it's Hades to the rescue. So Hades winds up being basically like a tired dad/older brother/babysitter who tries to make the best out of bad or weird situations -- like being asked to help train Theseus in wrestling or get angsty teenage Cupid to wake up to the fact that Psyche loves him enough to put up with Aphrodite's BS but can't stand up to the goddess alone, etc. Not all the myths have the same endings, though -- Hades supports Perseus, for example, but is also good friends with Medusa, so they work out a way to trick the king by having Perseus give him a fake Medusa head, which the king tries to use immediately by confidently striding up to his rival and whipping it out... Which fails because it's a fake head, and then he gets killed by his rival before he can get revenge for the fake head. Stuff like that

Truth is, Hades was for all intents, the most merciful, honest and decent of all the gods. True he had his moments of underhandedness and cruelty, but usually only when he had been wronged or something stolen from him. But while the gods in Olympus made sport of torturing humanity in one way or another, Hades was the one who ended all of their suffering with the merciful act of death. He is also the Eldest of the gods, and technically the most powerful, as the gods derive their power from their creations as the titans before them did, but not Hades, He draws his power from his ever-growing legions of souls, to put it bluntly, all the other gods may perish, but so long as men live and die hades is eternal, its also why he doesn't covet power or fear losing it, which makes him effectively uncorrupted, unlike the gods who live in eternal fear of being supplanted like they supplanted the titans.
