Great review, thanks for making it. This recorder is so much more than a recorder so it is worth a whole video series. And Tascam has already announced the advent of a new firmware that will turn this device into a Portastudio for musicians. I love my X8, even if I have a few other recorders, including the Zoom F8nPro that you mentioned.

Thanks for posting, very informative. I’m currently using a zoom H8 in my set up which is basically amateur bedroom musician but quite fancy this for the 32 bit float capability. Still gotta do some more research, not really interested in editing on the fly as it will be pulled into Davincibresolve to edit so despite you misgivings over its capabilities as a music editing device I think at the moment it’s fitting the bill. Thanks once again for taking the time to share.
@HiPunch11 ай бұрын
It sounds like you are using the Zoom H8 to the best of its abilities. Perhaps there's no need to switch to the Tascam X8 right now unless you need 32 bit. Check out 4 more episodes coming out soon in the weeks ahead. Mahalo!

I want to capture a small 2 piece acoustic duo. 2 guitars, 2 microphones and maybe a drum machine. That's it. No effects, etc. Then take it home and mix it. Thinking of the top mics to provide ambient sounds of the gig if I want to include that. Need good sound quality. Since we're musicians, yeah...good sound quality is paramount. This seems to have all the inputs I need. See any issues on doing what I'm wanting? You think sound quality is good enough?
@HiPunch14 күн бұрын
@@Steven_Lee_Music Yes. The sound quality is excellent if you use some good microphones and even some DI boxes for bass, drum machines or synths. 32 bit is very forgiving with no digital distortion to worry about. I'd recommend not using the included cheap mics, though. Use those front inputs for other mics or direct inputs. Mahalo for watching.

@@HiPunch I was thinking of Zoom or even a sound device...but, this seems to have everything at a much lower price point and I've had Tascam stuff for 30 years. Never let me down. Just wanted to make sure the sound quality was there. Will be having 2 microphones 2 acoustic line in guitars with pre-amps and a line input for drum machine. Great video. Mahalo HiPunch!!

In the thumbnail pic and end of the video, I see you have the Rode wireless receivers split into the X8. Does the X8 record each line individually? So the Rode outputs a stereo signal with two mics, are those recorded as separate tracks so you can edit them individually?
@HiPunch10 ай бұрын
Yes, the X8 records each mic on a separate track and then outputs a stereo mix with as many mics and inputs as you like. (Up to six) You will still have separate tracks when you import the files into you computer for editing.
