It’s hard to understand how both Toyota and Subaru have beautiful vehicles out in the market and even with both of them working together they settled on this look. If it's anything like the price of the new server ooh I'm quite sure there are some EV's out there with a lower price point albeit not with the prestigious YODA name behind them. Starting to get a bit concerned that some EV's are starting to have the same price tags of what some houses cost or used to cost. Looking forward to prices leveling out and or more entry level for those of us that have capped out or civil service glass ceiling yet!

As well as saying most affordable option rather than saying it's simply affordable it's worth nothing it's a U.S review and cars in there are cheaper I think. It starts from $37k which in GBP even with the current rubbish conversion rate is just over £28,000. I'd buy this over a Model 3 personally, even if the Model 3 is a bit cheaper, but they're different types of cars so I'm not sure anyone in the market for a BZ would even consider a Model 3. More likely a Model Y but still a different market. The Toyota is a purpose built SUV EV with some off-road capability albeit less so for the FWD version of course, the Model Y is a raised Model 3 that's targeted at road use only. Would be good to see some proper reviewers inc range tests. Too many reviews just having a poke about in them, and even with camouflaged bodywork in some cases still. Taking orders for them so some proper full reviews now would be good

Because of the air bags the design of the steering wheel make you NOT want to hold the steering wheel higher. Holding the wheel at at 2 and 10 o'clock is no longer the best hand position due to the air bag. The tendency to grip the wheel hard before a crash and a high grip on the steering wheel caused too many broken bones. A 3 and 9 o'clock grip is the recommended hand position now.
@dchristo10
@dchristo10 2 жыл бұрын
They actually teach the 8 and 4 hand position now, which I can't stand. It puts the arms in the safest position should the airbag go off. Of course you could argue that driving that way increases your risk of accident...causing your airbag to go off.
@Nemoticon
@Nemoticon 2 жыл бұрын
@@dchristo10 There is truth in this... I also think that with modern electric steering being so light and uncommunicative now, higher steering hand positions don't have the same benefit as it previously had. The same ‘butt-ugly’ design choices that prevented me from ever considering a Prius have been made with this vehicle. The wheel arches mean the only paint choice I could make is gloss black (more Darth Vader than Stormtrooper). As a long term Toyota Hybrid owner (Camry and RAV4) I think I’ll pass on this attempt.

I couldn't agree with you more. The many design features that this person likes, I think are ugly. I agree, have buttons on the steering wheel, the center console, below the display and on the display seems to take the design approach of when it doubt, add more buttons. One of the main issues I had with my 2011 Chevy Volt is that it had duplicate physical buttons for most of the soft buttons. This Toyota seems to follow the same aesthetic. Also, it would be helpful to spend less time on the look of the car and more time on EV features like range, charging speed, acceleration. Toyota looks an awful lot like a car company that will not be competitive in the EV world.

About the instrument cluster, it is clear to me that they need to do something weird because this is an EV.

Different markets will get different exterior trims, im hoping we get the choice in Europe between glissy and flat trim as we get with the RAV4.. That glissy trim is going to be a mess after a year. If mine comes glissy, it's getting PPF over the trim

I've always thought the more recent Toyota/Lexus design language was cribbed from Lucasfilm. This car is a continuance of that trend.

Piano black? Why? Gauge cluster could have been done in a slightly more traditional way, too. I dealt with similar ones, and they don't perform well when it's bright/sunny.

I am a Toyota fan, but when I look at the materials here, the quality and feel is very modest. In addition, the doors close poorly (despite open windows) and with a clattering noise. It is also unbelievable that Toyota has not managed to place a storage tray for the charging cable in the front "trunk". The luggage compartment roller blind, which probably originates from a Camry from 1992, matches this. And the crowning glory of incompetent engineers is the speedometer behind the steering wheel, which can probably not be read by 80% of the world's population, because the steering wheel simply covers him!

Overall I like the design but I can’t stand that white section on the top of the headlights or daytime running lights because it looks like it was just stuck on at the last minute it feels like it doesn’t quite in a great while enough to the rest of the set up

That fender makes this an instant no for me. When Audi did this weird crap with the R8, it was received as ugly, and they eventually got rid of it, rightfully so. When I first saw a new model I hadn't heard of, I clicked the video. When it started, I assumed as a press vehicle, someone wrecked it and they slapped a fender on until they could get it painted between this and the next press event. Then I heard it was intentional and wondered who should be suring up their resume at Toyota.

the seats look like they're straight out of the Lexus UX . As usual though, car companies feel like reinventing how we interact with our cars, when they don't need to, (and they wonder why they don't sell as well).
