Very interesting review about the DMR :)! Such an analog/digital camera system would offer really a lot of benefits and obviously, already in 2005, it was possible to pack all things needed for digital in such a small digital back. Concerning the digital quality, do you maybe know if there is any major differences between the DMR and the M8, as except of the slightly bigger size of the sensor in the M8 the specs look fairly similar? Best regards from Innsbruck, Gregor

Hi, Great video, I enjoyed it very much. I have a R8 since 2006. Bought it used at the Leice Store Berlin, just when they opened it. I did not buy a DMR because it was too expensive at that time still. I was immediately fascinated by the quality of the pictures and by the ease of use and quality of the camera. I bought 4 fix lenses and a slide projector set. I did lots of slides and keep shooting film, both slides and B&W and do not see myself replacing it. However, because of the lack of quality laboratories in Chile I am doing more B&W lately because I can develop the films at home. I also bought recently an M7 to try the different approach of the view finder cameras. Thorsten, can you recommend a digital camera with similar tone and quality to the R8-9 with DMR, to be able to do color prints? Maybe the Leica 8? Best regards

Really enjoyed this, I’m not surprised it’s that good. Hope you can make it work for you for another ten years. I used a Leaf Aptus 22 for 15 years. It still works. Only upgraded to a Leaf 60 in October last year. The colours are amazing from Leaf. I’ve just tested the Leica S3. I may have to buy it. For studio work at 1/1000th of a second. Now worried about the colour in the S3.

CCDs are way better than CMOS sensors, in my opinion. The colours are more "real life" and the image itself is more clear. This digital back is a real monster of a camera gear! But despite its bulky size, the results are great. My mates also tell "why you are walking around with your camera, it is huge. Take some lighter model". I have a Fuji GX680iii, by the way. But I like it, and I'm OK with carrying around the weight of this camera or any other.

The CEO of Leica in early 2000´s says we keep whit film and still produce film cameras because people will see that film is better and comeback to film. well it was not completely wrong when we look at now and see many young people shooting film and using film cameras. For me in my opinion digital is useful and convenient, but Film is better in respect to color, dynamic range and that special ´´Film look``that no any digital camera came close.

@@MagicOfLight_ThorstenOvergaard I had an M9 and still have an M9M. The M9 initially would not work with 32GB cards but was okay after a firmware update. M9M is good with 32GB out of the box, and will shoot and record to 64GB (I just tried it) but if you press the Info button the camera won't be able to tell you the card capacity. Frankly I barely even need 16GB cards on the M9 series. The real limitation are the batteries. New old stock ones have been on the shelves a long time and are still expensive. Third party ones a bit of a crapshoot. Some hold a charge and register the correct charge to the camera. Some don't.

Very interesting. I heard from someone that you should use the slowest speed cards you can get for the CCD cameras. He was an engineer I think. I don't recall exactly why he said that, but it was to do with the signal path of CCDs.
@Funktrainer
@Funktrainer 3 жыл бұрын
@@Biosynchro It simply doesn’t matter which speeds the cards have as the maximum write/read speed is given by the controller. I use UHS-I SD cards. I always use the highest speed cards supported by the camera because they speed up the file transfer to the computer.

Wow man - you've been doing a lot of content lately. That's great, but must be because of the lockdown and you can't take photos anymore. This must be very frustrating for you, especially for somebody who is used to travelling the world.

Sorry Thorsten, even when it was brand new, it was terrible and very unsuccessful. But if it makes you happy, enjoy 😋.

"it was terrible and very unsuccessful. - Huh ? - Pretty obvious that you've never owned or shot with one. - The amazing color & extreme sharpness (Kodak CCD with NO AA Filter !), caused a long purchase waiting list (Leica sold every unit made). And if working, they currently enjoy incredible resale value...

You say digital wrong (jk). But, you have an Eizo, like me, glass desk, like me, desk mat, like me, all set up beside a window, like me. I'll forgive you. But if it wasn't for those four redeeming qualities I'd totally unsubscribe! Lol.
