This is the best video so far. I've been watching all the hard work getting to this point and now we're harvesting. One thing that came to mind is there's no way for a person to just say I'm going to be a potato farmer. Looks like one area of agriculture that's got to be multi generational. There's a lifetime of learning to get to where you are. From the fields to the cellars it's amazing how clean the potatoes are. I can see how potatoes would need a cold dark place for storage. It made me think of my mother in law. She's a pretty cold dark place. 😊😅😂 Just kidding, she's actually a great mother in law. Keep the great videos coming. 👍

Absolutely awesome, your team work so efficiently together. When i was harvesting my potato crop with what i thought was a good set up [2 row harvester filling 1/2 ton bins] occasionally a huge day would put 80 tonne in the shed but needed a day off after it hahaha 😂. Our district average yield was approximately 23 ton per acre, my best yield ever for only one paddock was 40 ton per acre, Your yield this year appears much better than you expected in an earlier video. The potatoes have certainly filled out well at the end of their growing cycle. Well done

I grew up a “townie” in obviously a small town in West Central Illinois, home to corn, soybeans and hay feeds as far as the eye could see. Naturally we had lots of woods, hills, hollars, cricks and the Illinois River rambling through our county. So naturally browning of a “townie” I was never involved with type of farming aspect. A garden consisted of tomatoes, cucumbers and green beans primarily. When I got married to a country boy who grew up farming and having a “real” garden at home, I was gobsmacked. I was coming home from work and he had asked me to stop and pick up potato plants so he could plant potato’s. I went to where he told me to go and I was blank when they showed me several different bags of potatoes and asked me, “What kind did you want?”. I thought maybe they were just being rude to me or something, I honestly had no clue what I was to pick up. I chose the Kennebeck and went home and explained the experience to my husband. While he laughed, I was humiliated and he did apologize as he assumed I knew. There were some blunt words thrown at him prior to the apology but he had his potatoes and all was well. I can tell you, when I went to dig up these “precious potatoes” I did not expect to have as much fun, as much excitement, satisfaction I could just go on!! I was like opening birthday presents to see just how many potatoes were hidden underground. I detested weeding and such and I didn’t much care about pick eats of corn. That was something I could see. My husband used a potato fork to dig, not me. I got down on that ground with a small shovel/spade and carefully and lovingly dug every damn one up. 💜

Interesting and impressive! Thank you for your effort to explain the workflow to us viewers! I am relieved to see that the tractor driver can sit looking sideways, rather than having to look over his shoulder. I notice that the actual harvesting machine doesn't feature a buffer storage. I seem to remember from European footage that the combines (or whatever, I'm urban) feature a storage that allows them to run without an accompanying truck for some minutes. (There are quite some agricultural videos (in German) on the channel of NDR (public broadcaster from the North of Germany. And I enjoy the weekly vlogs (in Dutch) by Kees Huizinga, a Dutch farmer in Ukraine, on the NieuweOogst channel.)

@paulhammond74894 ай бұрын
When I first stated watching I was a little concerned about the amount of soil being deposited in the trucks, but that was slowly removed at the many cleaning stations along the way, with only a tiny amount being left at the last cleaner just before stacking. Nice also to see the whole family getting involved. Hope the weather holds for the rest of your harvest.... :)
