THE LAND OF THE DWARF HOUSES 🧙‍♂️ THE MOST BEAUTIFUL VILLAGES IN EUROPE
Alberobello is one of the most incredible places in the whole world, thanks to its unique architecture and the houses, trulli, which can only be seen there, Alberobello is visited annually by millions of tourists from all over the world.
It is famous for its unique small historical houses called trullo (plural trulli). The name of the city originated from the medieval Latin name of the region “siva arboris belli” (The wood of the tree of war).
Trulli Houses
The trulli are drystone dwellings with conical roofs. A typical trullo has thick walls and is either round-shaped or square. In Alberobello most of the trulli are square-shaped.
Usually a trullo is a single-storey small building. It is technically hard to construct a multi-storey trullo. There are only few two-storey trulli in the town. The second floor in these constructions is made of wood, but this happens rarely. It is easier and more practical to construct several small trulli than a big one.
That is why big families in Alberobello were living not in one single trullo, but rather in trulli groups. Big families could have a group of dozen trulli constructed next to each other. The interior of a trulli is mainly made from wood. The roofs are not painted, but the walls are traditionally painted white.
Trullo is a rural building type. It was meant to serve as field shelters and storehouses. Alberobello is a unique case where they became the main lodgment for the local population.
Discover Alberobello
Alberobello is a small Italian town like any other at a first glance. The streets are narrow and hilly, houses are white, the weather is pleasant and life is slow.
Alberobello trulli
But if you take a closer look to some of the houses, you will think you landed in a fantasy book. Small houses with conical roofs are dotted everywhere around you.
Trulli History
The history behind Alberobello is of course connected with money and cunning Italian aristocrats.
When in the 14th century the previously uninhibited area became under the control of the Count of Conversano, he and his successors decided not to construct permanent dwellings here for their peasants, as far as the taxes for the lands with no permanent settlements were lower, than those with officially recognized towns. In order to pay small taxes Alberobello was supposed to be classified as an uninhabited area. For this reason trulli in Alberobello were being constructed in a specific way.
Trulli were being constructed from roughly worked limestone, because this material could be easily dismantled and later reused for reconstruction of the dwellings. Because of the jiggery-pokery of their landlord the inhabitants of Alberobello have already been living in trulli for several centuries.
Up to the mid 17th century there were only several dozen trulli in the area, but during the following century the population of the town rapidly increased.
By the end of the 18th century the town had a population of 3,500 inhabitants. In 1797 Alberobello was finally granted a status of a town, but up to that date its population was living in trulli, which could be easily and quickly disassembled if it was necessary.
Today, AlberobelIo is one of the best preserved historical urban areas of this type in Europe. The historical value of the town increases because the Alberobello trulli are still serving as houses for the local population.

This is the dearest, sweetest town. I love all the tiny shops, crammed with merchandise. It is all very inspiring. The big, fancy towns can be very intimidating. This town has a homey, welcoming feel to it. The shops remind me of all the wonderful things my mom used to make, like her canned blackberry syrup, canned jam and homemade canned clam chowder.

@@TouristChannell It is an island. Bainbridge Island, Kitsap county, Washington State, USA. It used to be homey, like this video. Simple and homey. Now it is all gentrified. It is very beautiful now, but it's not as simple and like the country as it used to be. There was a cow pasture with cows in it at the end of the main street when I was a little girl. Now the cow pasture is a European mall, with shops and apartments above, all very fancy and nice.

@@TouristChannell The island I grew up on, Bainbridge Island, is also covered in very steep hills, with a bay of water at the bottom, very like Alberobello.

Архитектура, и впрямь, необычна! Я таких крыш нигде не видела.Окна, в свсем маленькие, на некоторых крышах видны печные трубы, а где- то их вообще не видно. Но поселение выглядит нарядным и аккуратным за счет одинаковой побелки стен.

お疲れ様です🙇 びっくりしたのがこの町並みの 素晴しい事です　屋根が石を積み重ねた地中海を思わせる外見に石の屋根が何だか童話に出てくる 不思議な感覚　大好きな感覚です お店も雑貨屋さんが多く素敵な アクセサリーや雑貨のお店で 何時間も居れます。この石の屋根は映画で見た事が有ります お花もたくさん飾って本当に好き 観光のお客様がたくさんいらっしゃいますね　家は普通の家より低く作られて居ますね　小人の家は 実在して居るのですね私は住む事が出来ます広くて大きな家は維持が大変ですが小さな家は大好きです。のんびりしたりスローライフが楽しめそう　沢山の観光するお客様でこの町は生活に役立つ 貴重な観光地なんですね。 何だか全体像を見ても町が 1920年代にも人が沢山要らしたのかな世界は国の個性で作られ 日本とは違う個性ですが惹かれます。服も可愛い🤗教会のステンドグラスは１番心に刻まれました いつも良く歩かれて靴も痛みやすいですね・貴方様の体力は凄い お身体に気を付けて下さいね ありがとうございます💐 最後の教会の絵は貴重な素晴らしい絵で久しぶりに癒されました 私が自分の足で見に行く事はもう 出来ませんが心の中にしまって 休みます。貴方様も今まで何歩 歩かれた事でしょうね。 心から　お疲れ様でしたゆっくり お身体を休ませて下さい お休みさい🐈🐾

Bonjour, cette vidéo est très belle, bien détaillée et expliquée. Bravo à vous. Voici un village qui fait rêver les touristes, mais la majorité ne pourrait sans doute pas y vivre.... Moi qui suis d'un tempérament assez solitaire et créatif, je suis convaincue que j'aimerais vivre dans une habitation trulli avec un jardinet, car j'ai pu constater qu'elles avaient des fenêtres et une cheminée. Sur la photo d'artistes, j'ai reconnu Terence Hill connu dans les fameux westerns spaghetti ! Enfin, merci pour ce joli voyage en Italie 😊
