@gluserty3 жыл бұрын
@@moonchild3130 Hey, yeah, I like that comparison! Wells compiled more receiving yardage during the seasons in his particular abbreviated career, but they both scored a lot of TD's and were major deep threats. I've seen some highlights of Wells and looked at the numbers (eye-popping), and I agree with Madden: seems Wells could dominate in the way Randy Moss later did. Wow, "What if?" indeed. Well, at least the Raiders later had Cliff Branch, who I think should be in the Pro Football HoF.
@ckobo843 жыл бұрын
Branch didn't have a strong armed quarterback to properly use his deep speed. Stabler couldn't throw over 45 yards so they had Branch fake like he was going deep and come back up field. The deep comeback was invented due to Stabler's lack of arm, Branch's speed, and a line that could block all day. Wells was combined with the perfect quarterback to play to his strength.

This video is the result of either poor research or it was intentionally left out that Burner Turner was a typical 80s cocaine abuser and Ground Chuck was done with the guy. In typical fashion, they tried pulling a fast one on Cleveland like the Cowboys did to the 49ers with Hollywood Henderson. Fortunately, the Browns were made aware of the addiction before the physical and had the team physician fail Turner’s physical to nullify the trade. Turner even tried rehab in ‘87 in order to play in ‘88 but the damage had already set in by this point and didn’t even make it through training camp with the 49ers before calling it a career. Im not sure how he’s doing did post-nfl life but drugs certainly derailed his career…not some ill-fated press conference. Not a big deal but sort of important to know if you’re going to make a video on the subject.

"Turner had more receiving yards..." No, he did not, Lipps had 860 to 725 for Turner. Turner did have 1 more touchdown catch than Lipps, but Lipps had one on a punt return and also led the league in PR yards and was third in punt YPR. I don't think the OROY award was particularly close. Yes, I admit punt returns are not technically offense, but I think they tend to be factored into awards. Even without the punts he had almost 20% more yards. Most importantly though Loo-Weee Lipps name was infinitely cooler (thanks to SquealingSalamander65 for the corrected pronunciation... if anyone knows the importance of a name it's someone called "Squealing Salamander")

Not enough of info? He checked into a drug rehab after he got cut by the Seahawks. He didn't played in the 1988 season because of his stint in the rehab and people knew of his drug problems. Mostly though it was his penchant to drop passes. Even though he got historically high TDs catches in his first two season, he also didn't didn't have too many receptions either. I think he's a red zone machine if you seen the video, but unless Dave Krieg dropped the pass perfect into his hands or somehow Daryl Turner turned into world class route runner like Jerry Rice to get open, Turner will have a hard time getting easy catches. That tends to be his problem. Once defenses figured out on how to cover Turner.... getting safety to help cover on top, it was hard for him to get clean touches. Turner moves like a TE and play like one. He is not a deep threat and rarely goes up the middle for those tough catches even though he's 6"3. Too bad he couldn't put it together once defenses have corner played close to him and having safeties help covered him. That's the reason why his 3rd and 4th season with Seahawks declined badly and they needed to find other WRs. The drug problems is the reason why he couldn't get another team to sign him. The Browns did voided the trade because of his back issues, but other teams would've taken a chance on him if he was to work hard on his game and if he had stayed clean.

9:31 There's an article from 2011 where Turner himself explains how his drug addiction torpedoed his career: www.heraldnet.com/sports/too-young-too-fast/ It is the fifth result for "Daryl Turner Browns" on Google. Not sure how this was too hard to find, but I can't say too much - I didn't even know about this until seeing this video.
