Francis was married to my great aunt Wilma. Growing up I always heard bits and pieces of my Uncle Francis' story. This is the first complete history I've heard where I learned something new about his service. He was an imposing man to me when I was a little kid, because of his stern disposition. However, he always entertained a conversation with a curious kid and I remember him peaking around the table where I was hiding to crack a smile. His funeral was impressive and he received a heroes send off for sure.

I understand that sternness. The physical and emotional pain that is attached especially for a little boy. My dad fought across Europe. He was on the line at the Bulge at the end and the on to Korea 2x. He never talked much about it. Looking back with what we know now, it might of helped. Always Stand🇺🇸💪🏻💪🏿💪🏽💪

My Dad was 16 years old when he heard that the Japanese had attacked Pearl Harbor. He never spoke much about his service, but he once told me that in that exact moment he swore he would stand on the streets of Tokyo in victory, or die in the attempt. He joined the Navy as soon as he could and he was at Iwo Jima, Ie Shima, and Okinawa. His ship was a part of the fleet that escorted the USS Missouri in to Tokyo harbor and he fulfilled his oath. He stood on the streets of Tokyo in triumph. And then he went home. They were the greatest generation; of that there is no doubt. He died in 2019 at the age of 93.

Truly a young soldier who took a stand against the Germans. Single handely holding off attempts by the Panzer Tanks to cross the river. That takes courage and a sense of duty to protect one's fellow Soldiers. Truly Curry deserved all the medals he was presented with. 💪🏻🙏🏻✨

My Dad was one of the best soldiers in WW2! Harry Mason Rhorer. Company first Sargeant. Had his own platoon (Army). Fought in many campaigns in North Africa ! Wounded and sent to England to recover. Was on a ship on D-DAY waiting their turn to storm the beaches! He hit the beach several days after D-day and fought through France, the Battle of the Bulge and through the Black forest, hedgerow by hedgerow. He did what Forest Gump did in the movie, went back onto a battlefield and carried one of his guys out against orders to stay put. Bronze Star for Valor! Purple Heart! Buried in the Eagle Point Veterans Cemetery in Oregon. He's my hero.

Back in the 1980's I found myself tasked with being the Battalion Commander's driver. We had an M-151 Jeep, and back in those days we weren't issued any night vision. So, the BC taught me how to drive through the wooded roads at night by looking up and driving as he put it "Where the trees ain't". Good times, and memories of an Old School Infantry Leader. SSG. When Hasbro released its Medal of Honor 12” figure line, Francis Currey was the first figure released. I was selling action figures at that time and was contacted by his family about buying as many as I had. His daughter I believe it was said that Hasbro had supplied cases of what Hasbro believed were Currey figures only to find that they were Tuskegee Airmen figures! We had a chuckle about that and I shipped what I had free of charge to him.

You are a very good narrator. But, I don't know who provided the info or artwork for this video but there are some problems for a student of history and art like me. At 6:27 you say he was awarded the silver award for gallantry in action. It is the Silver Star medal. Most of the sketches are of either the British (like the one of him receiving the Silver Star) later U.S. troops or fantasy soldiers. The post war info and photos were a very good addition. Oh, I also spent a career in the military and have known several WW2 vets and just want them honored properly. Thanks.

Had the great opportunity to sit next to Mr. Currey at a WWII reenactment at the Collings Foundation in Hudson, MA (now the American Heritage Museum) which is commonly referred to as the "Tank Museum" before he died. In humble fashion it was one of the most interesting discussions I ever had. He was the fourth CMH recipient I have had the distinct honor of meeting. Also had an uncle who was a D-Day and BOB veteran with both the Silver and Bronze stars and Purple Heart with 2 OLC's and a CIB.

@7:14 Berlin fell in May 1945 so there would have been ample time and opportunity for the MOH ceremony to take place in Europe. I think you meant to imply that the ceremony was conducted at the earliest opportunity after the end of WWII. After all, in July 1945, there was the very real possibility that his unit would be transferred to the Pacific. So many amazing stories of courage in the face of death. Thank you for this one. Always keep in mind the the bravery of many more soldiers and civilians whose acts of bravery were never recognized, many times because there were no witnesses or survivors to document their sacrifice. ❤

Never heard of Francis Currey before. Great story. One correction: 1:11 His name was not Jochen Peiper, but Joachim Peiper. He was SS; that is, Nazi Party military, not Wehrmacht. His rank was Obersturmbannführer, which was roughly equivalent to the American rank of lieutenant colonel. After the war, Peiper was tried for the Malmedy Massacre and sentenced to death. His sentence was commuted to life imprisonment, then to 35 years. He was paroled in 1956. He worked for Porsche and then Volkswagen, but he was forced out of both jobs because Italians refused to work with him. (Peiper massacred Italians, too.) He and his wife moved to France where he lived under an assumed name. A veteran of the French resistance recognized him and exposed his true identity. On Bastille Day in 1976, French fighters attacked and torched Peiper's home and killed him. Peiper was never shy about his Nazi Party affiliation. He denied it at his trials but associated with ex-Nazis after the war. Peiper worked to rewrite German history and whitewash the atrocities he and other Nazis had committed. The American Army should have hung him in 1948 and saved a lot of trouble.

This courageous hero died one month to the day after my sweet, beautiful daughter. She passed on September 8, 2019, two days short of her 30th birthday. I realize this has no relevance to the video of this hero, but when the date of his passing was shown, I couldn’t help but remember my daughter. She died in her sleep from inherited heart disease. Only God knows why I survived 5 separate strokes in 2016, two occurring before my 60th birthday. Then surviving MYRSA in June 2017 that hospitalized me for 8 days and kept me at home for 6 more weeks with a PIK line. I wouldn’t have hesitated had I been given the chance to give my life so she could live. I guess that’s the blessing, she didn’t have to spend the past 3yrs, 7 months of insanity in the flesh. I know without hesitation, she is with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ Thank you for this video
