Those lifts are amazing! Love it, but I bet the residents think the entire opposite! That outer door that leaves the inner door - what did you first think when you discovered that?! :D

I wasn’t even that surprised to be honest lol! The retiring cam is completely screwed on it and has no spring strength at all really. I was more shocked that the door buffer on the other one is completely unresponsive, meaning it just crushes shut on anything in its way!

Absolutely! The building is actually due to be demolished very soon, so that’s probably why these lifts are staying in this state without getting any money spent on them.

If you haven’t informed the council, you need to. Those lifts urgently need looking at and possibly refurbishment. At no point should a lift door behave like that and be in service, it’s a serious issue that needs resolving urgently.

Yeah, it’s quite a state they’re in! The building is being demolished at some point this year, so the building being on the list for demolition has probably been the reason for their reluctance to spend any money on the lifts. The reason for the door problem is that a mechanical part of the door mechanism (the retiring cam) is so overly worn out that it barely does it’s job properly anymore. As it’s an entire mechanism which is worn, it’s unlikely to be something which can be easily sourced for some lifts which were made by a company which closed over 35 years ago. So it’s either rip the whole thing out and refurbish, or switch them off I suppose. But it’s probably best that they’re left running for people that need them even if they’re in a terrible state as it’s just about good enough to be in a working condition until they’re demolished.

Absolutely! It’s actually terrible really, and I’ve never seen lifts in as bad a state as this which still work! The door buffer on the other one doesn’t work either, and it just crushes shut on anything in its way.

They may be old and battered, but it was a fun ride. One lift for odd numbered floors and one for even numbered floors, is this common in the UK? Nice photography btw.

Thanks! Odds and Evens lifts are quite common in older blocks of flats from the 50s-70s. It used to be done because it was cheaper than having to have a set of doors for each lift on each floor. You only need to install half the number of landing doors that way. Also, it means that you don’t need to have the lifts paired together into a duplex system. So it was just a cost cutting thing I believe! But it’s pretty much unheard of that they’d do that nowadays (at least as far as I’m aware). Thanks for watching! :-)

Oh my god. These are so cool elevators to find! But, wow are they knackered... Elevator door is broken installed with it, Look like neglect problem of this sliding door or lack of fixtures elevator effects. Service needs updated to create fully refurbished make a new look better than nightmare of this elevator. I honestly you see that, is elevator cause of terror door broken is going be trapped! I've loss for words about this hell elevator is gone so bad! I hope they service gets create of refurbishment to make a improvement better, it will be safe place as usual... Too bad those elevators trust be fear away from the nightmares of THESE, huh!! You have to take care, when you going the elevator to find the place it is. What purpose these!! 😨

OMG!!... Wow!!... Jeez!!... How awesome to find these elevators isn't... Oh my god!! What expect of this edge door broken out is?!! This elevator needs to be fixtures made more improvements or need refurbishment create up properly. I honestly that is... it's gotta quite a nightmare for this first elevator edge door badly broken it is! But these elevators need to be updated to make formal refurbishment for new looks better than worst. That's shocked is hell affect about this elevator goes to! (I've lost fit words!!) 😰
