Join me as I explore the magnificent Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna, an architectural masterpiece designed by Gottfried Semper and Carl von Hasenauer, built between 1871 and 1891.
I was fortunate to visit Vienna during a very special time. From 8 October 2024 to 12 January 2025, the museum is hosting its first-ever exhibition dedicated to the Baroque master Rembrandt.
The "Rembrandt - Hoogstraten: Color and Illusion" exhibition highlights the extraordinary use of trompe-l'œil techniques, including:
"Girl in a Picture Frame" - an oil-on-panel masterpiece where the subject's hands appear to extend beyond the painted frame, creating a stunning illusion of depth and realism.
"Inner Courtyard of the Vienna Hofburg in a Feigned Picture Frame" (1652) by Samuel van Hoogstraten, showcasing his brilliance in trompe-l'œil artistry.
In this video, you’ll also discover some of the museum’s iconic works, including:
Velázquez’s Infanta Margarita Teresa in her exquisite blue dress.
Works by Giuseppe Arcimboldo, renowned for his imaginative portraits composed entirely of fruits, vegetables, flowers, and books.
Pieter Bruegel the Elder’s famous "Peasant Wedding" and the legendary "The Tower of Babel" (1563).
