I am currently in university, I one day was laughing when my friend, who is Sotho from the Free State, were having a conversation about the demographic make up of South Africa and I was gobsmacked when he flat out considered Anglo South Africans as "White people" and Afrikaners just as black people. I had not considered this before as having grown in my childhood under the openly racist Robert Mugabe I thought it was one and the same. However, from experience I saw that some Anglo South Africans (not all) do not relate to the African experience as much as Afrikaners do, for example with appreciating African cuisine like pap and others. As an example a guest lecturer who happened to be Anglo South African came and was giving a lecture on Southern Africa's anthropology and she straight up proceeded to insult the cuisine in front of us 😂 by saying pap tasted like cardboard 🤣. My friends and I could not believe it. Of course someone may dislike something others enjoy, but almost equating us to eating cardboard is a stretch too far I think.😅 So yeah I think Afrikaners are truly of the African soil. There are exceptions too, for example from my country of origin Ian Smith, Prime Minister of Rhodesia, was a true patriot even post independence he always expressed his love for Zimbabwe. I feel sad about how he was treated and driven out dying in South Africa instead of where he was born in Zimbabwe. At least he's ashes were scattered back at his home where he was born. I don't believe blacks hate white folks it is just that many of us do think that many white folks, especially globalist Anglo South African politicians have a somewhat a lack of relatability to Africans and come off as if they want us to be like Europeans and/or Americans, which we are definitely not. Afrikaners too, in my humble opinion do not relate to the globalist mindset and share our strong Christian ✝️ values I think they could get a lot of the black vote if they were not too exclusionary in highlighting Afrikaner issues only because trust me, black folks too are fed up with issues from both ANC, DA, EFF and soon MK. I am regarded as an apartheid-era "white" South African. Until then a citizen was either European or non-European. The segregation on racial lines was introduced by British colonialists whom labeled every South African according some class. Now, it turns out that my maternal heritage can be traced to the first indentured labourers brought to the Cape Colony by the Dutch ca 1658 on the slave trader the Hasselt. Their daughter married a Dutch Gardener which is our heritage. Therefore, my maternal line has lived on no other continent but the African Continent. Another reason why being Boer/Afrikaner ought to be regarded as black, if the shoe fits.

Nevertheless, I too think that some may be surprised about their genetic heritage white or black or otherwise, as Africa is so diverse (the most diverse continent in the world) our bloodlines might be intertwined more than we may know and what is only noticed sadly is the shade of one's skin tone. Otherwise, I think it is good that you acknowledge your heritage and the positive contribution your ancestors and hopefully your descendants bring to making South Africa a wonderful country. I was born a White Afrikaner and can trace my Paternal family back to one of the Gardners that came to the Cape too establish the gardens at the Dutch East Indian Company and I'm still here. My husband was born in Windhoek but moved to "The Republic" with his parents when he was 9. Neither of us ever thought of leaving and nobody wants us anyway. We have too bare responsibility for the future and as we don't have children we have to ensure that future for ourselves. We are quite competent with languages and have skills that others can benefit from if they are just willing to put in the effort. We saw this country at its best and we've been battling too keep it up, now we are here too help build it up again.

I love Mr Groenewald, besides the fact he carries my maiden name. Our family is mixed with Afrikaaners that have been here forever then British, Scottish and German mixed inbetween. I married a Van Pletzen , a family of farmers who had farms up in the North West for Generations and their land was expropriated. They are now living in New Zealand , they want our farmers. Our family have SA English , Afrikaans and now we have an SA Indian to the mix. We are South African. We have some family members who have gone to Europe and are happy there. The majority of us are staying because we know that the people are great, the weather is great, we live a good life and our problems in this country can be fixed. The other continents have their problems but we play open cards. I have always said there is very little difference between an Afrikaner and Zulu in their temperament's, behavior and outlook on life. Very exciting times we are living in, finally it seems that South Africans are finally understanding Democracy.

The problem with crime in South Africa is the mindset of South Africans regarding "small" crimes. They believe that speeding and piracy (to name some "small" crimes) are OK. Most forget that most hardened criminals started doing "small" crimes and, seeing that they can get away with it, do go on doing worse crimes. We must start to address these crimes and the rest will come done.

Very interesting take. I think this also applies to African conservatism/traditionalism and Afrikaner conservatism/traditionalism. Although very different some key concepts overlap. IE, Family and traditions are important. Country more important than what the rest of the globe does. Malema and the far left (RET/ANC) succeeded in making the Israel/Palestine issue a thing. Very true - Oom Pieter is man of caring and honesty. He and his was with me on a recent flight. They didn't fly business class but with most of us in the economy class Fellow passengers from all backgrounds greeted him friendly. I sat close to him and was pleased to have some pleasant cinversation. I saw this other blacklady across the isle who often stretched her neck to watch him closely. After landing he and his wife took their luggage and went their way among the general populace. No security or body guards in sight. This black lady who stretched her neck to scrutinize him on the flight was also still waiting with me for our luggage and I asked her if she know which this man is? Yes, she said he is my new boss and she is surprised that he didn't fly business class, have no body guards and he carries his own luggage.
