Ayame’s entire gimmick is that she will rush your ass down, she have 2 gap closer that can be combo with and her DP make sure you can’t jump out if you’re in the corner with her but she completely lack any kind of range. So characters like Aki and Botan can straight up smoke her.

Thats a universal thing in this game. You can cancel normal into other moves of the same strength and you can cancel specials into other specials with superchat cancels which are very cheap and easy to do.

When she just crouch attack I had someone trying to cheese me with that while I was playing Korone, just jump heavy attack, it hits overhead and it follows up with a mixup because if they see it and block high you can either do a low and initiate a combo or you can do an overhead and if they block low they are taking it, and obviously if they press a button they are fucked. Also, generally against Ayame spacing is key and if you block their string you can easily punish with a throw because they are very vulnerable on block and then apply your own pressure after that.

Can ayame's crouching H beat that at range or do you just go over the top of it? Asking since I'm an ayame main who frequently trys to play footies with crouching M and H and Air M if they start shooting yubis

@@vlander1992able I'm not sure, I know I got hit a couple times but I think it's because I miss timed it. If you time it correctly it should hit before ayame's down heavy hit frame. I don't have the frame data though so it's just my gut feeling, testing might be required. Though just to be safe, when I see an Ayame using down heavy a lot in response to my jumping, I bait it out with a neutral jump and then go in on ground because the recovery frames on that move are quite high, that I'm pretty sure. Or I mix it up with the air doog which is even faster than jump heavy, more risky though because it won't hit Ayame when she is crouching thanks to her small hitbox so if the move whiffs she can punish easily.

@@thomasoliverlouis I play Fubuki and the juiciest thing I found was SSR Tatsu leads to wall bounce and you can juggle the enemy but since I don't have that much experience I struggle with the timing

Suisei player here. Ayame is... honestly pretty scary to fight. I have a general idea on what everyone else in the cast can do, at least to the point I can generally recognize when it's my turn to go on the offensive. It seems like no matter what character I play as, I can never quite figure out when it's safe to get aggressive against the oni. I admit I need to experiment with Ayame a bit more, and I'm nowhere near the level that some people have managed to get to in this game, but it does kinda feel like you can get away with aggression that wouldn't be safe for other high-pressure characters.

I've been labing ayame for a couple days now and have found a combo that does at least 700 damage but requires full meter your assist and perfect execution after the assist to build a second bar of meter to use her super, she's crazy. Also the range on her dp and crouching M and Crouching heavy into dp is absurd. her special dp can cancel into Medium dp into Light dp into medium into light again and finish the combo into the S auto string into super, it's hard to time the cancel from medium dp into light and you can whiff the S auto String while juggling so if you can stick a standing medium to catch her after special dp with a roboco beam interposed into the animation you can avoid the S auto string and replace it with L down M down H -> Super because that one medium gives you just enough hits for the last bar of meter you need for you 2 meter super.

Ayame's DP is fast and invincible on start-up...but also really unsafe on block and whiff. It also has the property of a grab on hit (kinda like Suisei's special overhead and Coco's 5H), so you can get some strange interactions if you try to trade it. Part of your gameplan facing any Ayame is to bait it out of her in disadvantage. She lacks any good reversal tool otherwise besides her ridiculous frame data.

umm yeah no, there isn't an ayame tier because coco exist yeah you need specific combo for her that's the only plus beside her pressure on the other hand... on wake up you will get meaty because even her light is slower then most light in the game, hell coco has a better L in the game with her finger snap everyone has disjointed hit box she has disjointed hurtbox, where her hurtbox is disjointed outwards on all of her 236 move, meaning majority of M or H will basically stuff her out of poking with it except Ayame or Aki because Ayame has the worst range (and for some reason he 5H hurtbox is also extended) and Aki M also have a extended hurtbox she literally can't get in safely without spending meter, hell you basically need meter do do anything safe or be able to open up someone because you can't TK her 214 move. in short the rushdown character has no high low mix only mid low mix without resource/strike throw on knockdown all of her jumping option are bad, jL hits nothing, jM has a weird activation delay, jH can't really be use as an air to air or instant overhead because it will only come out at the peak of the jump, jS is just bad (hard to control the spacing, doesn't hit anything because hurt box is only after she flip, isn't projectile invul isn't + or 0 on block) that and has one of the worst star special which is her 22S which is a move you use if you want to waste meter (not useless since it's your only range attack and is useful in the coco fight) in short she's a rushdown where you're playing lame from the beginning of the round to gain meter to actually be able to start your pressure, and un-ironically mio is one of her best assist because her debuff actually helps you to get that damage out because it last so long and people don't get that she's actually good at chip death a person with poison and/or def debuff

Played a lot against Suisei and a solid amount against Botan its nowhere near as bad. Suisei actually has gaps in pressure that you can either mash or backdash out of and regain space and Botan is just basic zoning for the most part you can def break through it. Ayame on the other hand has insane combos that can do up to 800+ DMG off of a regular 5M hit, insane hitboxes, stupid neutral and speed. Imo she is just the GOAT of Idol Showdown

@Akaraien Suisei has a good few plus frames and does pretty good damage. Botan's combos are so cool, and she's actually feeling more rushdown/zoner and she shits damage and has tricky normals! Botan's 5M-M is plus, and her j2C is crazy. To compensate, I don't think she has a DP. But being an Ayame player it doesn't always feel like she's super amazing, and her ~800 damage combos don't ever feel super attainable. Heck, her 214x series doesn't feel like it has much of a purpose unless it's plus.
