He also "doesn't like them being anthropomorphized" but says C-3PO, almost literally a gold-plated human, is peak upper-class droid design. IMO a waiter looking humanoid is as important if not moreso than a translator since the purpose is to make diners comfortable and happy. There are definitely differences, but I don't see enough to really matter - to me. I wonder how much comes down to growing up with one versus the other, being used to one, but I'm not going to assume someone's reasoning. An example of that for me, however, is the usage of historical clothing and architecture in things like Tales of the Jedi or Andor feeling off to me even though... _all_ of Tatooine from ANH, all Jedi clothing, a lot of Sith robes, and I can go on. I'm just not used to the new designs even though they're the same _kind_ of thing as the old.

When the average ship is in space between planets they generate a gravity field to make it easier on the occupants and yet when that ship accelerates or maneuvers the passengers do not feel it happening. And yet when some unexpected external force is applied to the ship there is a sudden but temporary force applied to the passengers that they can feel, either slightly or strongly. The best explanation would be that and maneuvers made by the ship are done through a computer that can read the inputs and manipulate the gravity generator to change the force of gravity and the vector it is applied to neutralize the maneuver of the ship to cancel out the inertial effects. But the computer can not anticipate and adjust for an external force affecting the ship so it has to play catch up, which means the passengers are going to feel the inertial effects of a change of speed or direction. No doubt that smaller ships like fighters also have gravity generators that the fighter's computer also manipulates to cancel out the effects of inertia on the crew of the fighter.

Actually, that is a very good explanation.

Ok, I get it why lava bucket droid has no purpose in looking android - it's just a bucket carrier. But service droid? Their whole task is to replace humans at human oriented job, as someone you talk to, and they talk back to you, it's preferable to have a friendly face, especially if you're drunk. No offence to M-6NK, but a bartender for me is more then a beverage dispenser, even if he's incurably honest and a charming singer.

If I recall, there's a bias against and fear of droids in Star Wars. Droid uprisings have happened in the setting with terrible results. So droids that are too efficient are scary. Droids that are too human are scary. There's a middle ground that keeps people's minds somewhat at ease.

Interesting views, and yes, if someone asks a question about personal preferences, you should feel free to express your own opinions. We all have different likes and dislikes in the series, whether it be the prequels, the sequels, the Youzan Vong (sp?), or whatever. Lucas had a Wookie do a Tarzan yell in Return of the Jedi, so we might all learn to take things a little less seriously sometimes! That said, I've been agonizing for days over what ship to use for a new tabletop rpg session coming up, so yeah, we all have our quirks! Droids are a fascinating part of the Star Wars universe, and they do indeed wear forms that fit them for their jobs. If some of them come off as silly, well, yeah, that happens, especially when your galaxy is full of non-humans, and even the human societies all have different esthetics. A fun video, thanks as always, and this is just my .02 credits on the matter!

#AskEck Hey Eck, I was wondering if you could clarify why the Jedi and Sith were so opposed to blasters or projectile weapons in general. Specifically, wouldn’t the clones and by extension the Jedi, have benefitted if the Knights had just started using blasters and played on the Clone’s strength with ranged weapons? It really isn’t, in my opinion, a secret that the Jedi really hamstrung the Clones combat abilities by insisting on engaging in close range to suit their light sabers and force abilities.

I really prefer the more utilitarian side of droids as machines made to do a thing. So the "just human" droids are kinda lazy from story writing perspective since even having proper sentience is supposed to be rare and a full human range of motion is expensive and pointless to emulate for most models. But I also have my doubts about some of the droids with no obvious purpose who just seem to be there for the purpose of cute. Like BD-1's a nice friend, but is his only real purpose to be a USB drive and pez dispenser on legs? And BB-8 is kinda too cute and all its utilitarian pieces entirely hidden in the smooth soccer ball, which is way more extravagant at storing stuff than R2-D2's panels.
