@@robertbrawley5048 you might also find it beneficial to think in terms of "intervals" too. This is an alternative to thinking in terms of "shapes" or even "note names". I have several lessons about this, including my most recent one: www.zombieguitar.com/a-new-way-to-look-at-the-pentatonic-scale-intervals-instead-of-patterns/

This is the most complete, informative and easy to understand 'CAGED' lesson from start to finish I've seen to date. Maybe it's simply that I assimilate well with your teaching style. Nearly all of your lessons, after I've seen them a few times to let them fully digest, really seem to sink in and give me a lot of those "Aha, I get it" moments. Bravo my man, bravo!

Brian this is the best description of CAGED anywhere on KZbin. I finally understood what it was all about a year ago or so, but it took me watching like 10 shorter videos, and reading websites on the subject to put it all together after the confusion. If someone has the attention span to watch this whole video you put together, they'll get it for sure. I'm going to recommend your video anytime I hear someone confused about CAGED. Your teaching style is great man, I wish I could find a local teacher like you. I'd gladly pay for weekly lessons.

Holy shit! Gold star award Brian. I knew how CAGED is a great way to memorize the arrangement of notes across the entire fretboard in any given key but the big aha! moment for me was how it is how you find the placement of the chords of the key you are playing. On top of that you can stay in anyone section of the guitar and play your chords all in one place similar to first position. Or the option to travel across the fretboard with your cords. Extremely thorough and smooth explanation. Now I see why you are so adamant about the CAGED system being about chords and how so many people are not getting the complete use of the CAGED system like I was. Not only that but your explanation of dominant 7th and augmented chords was so simple as well. Thank you for being steadfast about the proper way to learn music theory. You really fill in the gaps. Enjoyed the links to your music as well. I'm more on the punk and thrash metal side of music so you can guess which ones I liked. So thank you very much for passing along your accurate knowledge. Most excellent!

I like and am very inspired by over a dozen excellent KZbin platformed guitar lessons, but after I stumbled on one of your videos focused on knowing a songs key with the Circle of 5ths applied to demonstrating how to quickly learn a song by ear..........organizing a quick and logical method utilizing the options in Key/Circle of 5ths ..........this changed how I look at everything! It was the most amazing eureka moment that turned my limited music mind on to finally organize where I am plus options. I was blown away and felt very stupid (this was my favorite "Derrrrr" dumb eureka moment!) that I wasn't quick enough to recognize this years ago........oh well, haaaaa!!!! Brian! You are significantly superior to other excellent guitar instructors, period period period!!! Keep knocking it out of the park brother!!! I will be joining and getting your guitar lesson training materials soon here after I get through Christmas/New Years then I'll start a notebook(s) to solidify your lessons into my old knucklehead.....haaa!! Keep up your great and amazing teaching style brother! I'm a fan! Vr, Shane C. Dayton OH

so, first. i am 50. i played guitar in my teens (the 80's) , and really did not do anything but just learn a few things, songs, scales, chords etc. and odd things here and there. I took some lessons for a few months back then and then I picked up a guitar again about 3 or 4 months ago. I have been watching a ton of videos to learn again and I have watched a few videos of CAGED theory videos but this, this is insightful. I get it, I do not think I did before, but now I do. really helpful, i just wanted to say, thank you.

I think your approach is so humble and not super KZbiny, which is why you don't have millions of views...yet. Your knowledge is extremely impressive and really makes me want to sit down and force myself to understand what I've been missing for 20 years. I did the whole tab and by-ear thing when I was young because I wanted to play Metallica songs. Years later I realize that understanding more of what makes those songs what they are and maybe a little of what the writing process was like is so much more important than playing the same shit over and over again. I hope your channel continues to do well and you get the recognition you deserve. People should really pay for this type of knowledge.
