Briggs, you were right on about Memphis. I spent a year in Hawaii with family because of Covid. The 6 months that I have been back, I now have 6 holes in my convertible top that I have taped, encountered a maan trying to steal gas from my car at the grocery during the day, and 3 men followed me home from Walmart with the excuse that I had left my mobile phine there. I hadn't not. Luckily, my neighbor was close by and called the police. That's just me. No telling how many others are in danger here. Fortunately, my apartment lease is up in 6 more months and I am out of hear. Hopefully, I will last that long.

Yes, SLC has crime. You usually have to go out of your way to find trouble. I remember seeing stats for the State in March and seeing the murder figures for the last year and thinking that Tacoma already surpassed them all. It has some scummy sections, mostly by the tracks, but I've never felt uncomfortable walking around--- ---and you just mentioned Tacoma--- --anyway, I can walk around most of SLC and the Salt Lake Valley and not feel uncomfortable. I live in Utah Valley, so walking everywhere in the summer is a must.

@JimoftheSlim

@@lilliedoubleyou3865The statistics are grim, but I don't think they're as representative as they look. The lack of incorporation of surrounding affluent close suburbs skews the numbers way down, but I wonder how different the numbers would truly be as compared to, say, Charlotte's or Atlanta's with some of the higher tax-bracket zip codes pruned off to get a closer comparison. Regardless, I've always found it to be much safer feeling than, say, Jackson or Memphis, although one is wise to stick to the carefully patrolled downtown and not venture off into the truly horrifying hoods present to the north.

LEO friends always say there are two types of crime. Known and Random. In most cities "bad areas" contain 80% of the crime and are totally known to both law enforcement and the general public. I'm surprised Providence is the most dangerous city in Rhode Island. Most of us in the area think of Central Falls as the most dangerous. Is it actually safer?

As someone who used to go to many ballgames in Cleveland, that is a good joke. I lived in nearby Canton (which is still a yuck place) so seeing it behind you was better. But the best joke(s) I've heard were the Hastily made Tourism Videos here on YT. "But at least we're not Detroit!....We're not Detroit!" 🎶

Well, Omaha is Omaha there is not much to Omaha. Omaha had in the way past the stockyards and people seem not to forget that. Even though the stockyards were demolished the mentality for many people make it boring. No matter what they try to do to change it Omaha will never change in attitude.
