She def started off rocky but it seems like she really quickly educated herself and took all the right steps to get a real proper legal business up and running. Unlike some other people.... Who just sat there and yelled at anyone who tried to tell her what she was doing could hurt people lol idk why TikTok food selling is becoming such a big thing.. if you really want artisan stuff you can probably find a local *established* source for it.

But at the same time this isn’t something that should’ve happened to begin with. Food safety should NEVER be something people approach lightly. Everyone dragged the pink sauce woman for filth and botulism is one of the most dangerous food born illnesses you can contract…. Plus she lied.

Unfortunately her state doesn’t allow homemade pickled foods to be sold anyway so she’s putting her customers and business at risk regardless. Glad she’s changing but the change should involve no longer making pickled goods. She’s lucky nobody died because of her botched attempts at dealing these cans because it only takes one person getting killed or seriously injured for her business to get closed down.

@@soniquesmith6397 That was actually a good watch, I didn't know Ann made a video about the subject matter and I'm relieved to know that no one has verifiably gotten sick from eating the sauce. The main issue with the Pink Sauce in terms of food safety is how it's been shipped though. The bottles still needed refrigeration but got shipped without it and could have turned rancid from that and Pii also didn't get proper lab testing done underway prior to selling her product which I personally think is a definite must regardless of what it is.

for what it's worth, pickling vegetables the way she does it is absolutely fine _PROVIDED YOU KEEP THE JARS COLD._ like, they're called "refrigerator pickles" lol. mailing them non-refrigerated is gonna be a _ffricken problem,_ in fact, it's easy to tell if pickled vegetables have gone off when they're quick-pickled (what she's doing, pickling wihtout boiling anything) because the jar will hiss when you open it/the jar top will pop itself off. the clostridium botulinim or whatever farts a bunch when it starts reproducing and will make a TON of carbon dioxide. botulism can also grow in canned vegetables -- especially green beans -- which is why they say if you see a can that's bloated to not fuck with it at all, it's the same problem as quick-pickling and just leaving shit sitting out in the warm.

The scary part is she completely skipped the whole actual jar sealing/canning part. The vinegar pH would just require water bath canning so she could’ve been very successful for a minimal cost. There are even cute canning jars available so it’s not like the aesthetic would suffer.

People are so mean to this woman. I genuinely think that she was hit so hard so fast with everything and chronically online TikTokers went for her throat. The chances of getting botulism are so incredibly low to begin with, and having a commercial kitchen/license will make it even lower. She’s doing everything she can, and if I liked pickles I’d be doing more to support than just following/engaging. I’m happy to see that she was so on top of it all, it’s honestly pretty admiral compared to the trainwreck that is Chef P.

Nope. You do not play with people's health. Not knowing about food regulations or botulism etc is not an excuse, it only shows that you are a dimwit without a clue what you are doing. Would anyone who got seriously ill from her unsafe products only have themselves to blame? Well, maybe, but as the one actually making these bacteria bombs she is 100 % responsible. Would I ever purchase something from some random internet person? Absolutely not. I've experienced botulism. It left me severley disabled with permanent brain damage. It is NOT something to shrug about as "no big deal". It can ruin your life.

Literally best apology video ever made. People need to take notes. Also I love that the apology is so serious and he’s just sitting in a mini mouse chair 😂 Also I wish people would remember, these small businesses don’t have PR teams like companies do, once an issue comes to light it is going to take a small business a little time to work out what they’ve done wrong and how to go about fixing it and making a statement. I feel like we’re so used to huge companies with PR teams that release statements straight away. Not everyone has that, especially with how quickly some things blow up these days.

There are other reasons to have regulations on selling homemade foods. We've had to throw out jars of canned items, because they just didn't seal properly during the process. Canned foods can look ok from the outside, but if that seal isn't proper, the consumer can get sick with other toxins as well. Stay safe, canning is a great way enjoy food.

@@sarahg2665it’s not because of regulations, it’s because we’ve done such a good job getting rid of it and understanding how to preserve properly in the last hundred years. I and every other person who preserves food didn’t learn it because of the law, we learned and follow through because death is obviously not good and our grandmas and other close people taught us how to do it properly. Again, because we don’t want to kill anyone.

I believe it’s called cottage laws😊 Depending on where you live your city/county/state (here in the US) may have them and will vary on what’s regulated and allowed under these laws. I believe that under certain cottage laws you can indeed sell certain canned products but they’re very limited to like salsas and jams etc. Other products I think you do have to have a license for and a lot of local farms do but I’m assuming they have their own processing facility. I’m a homesteader and I’ve been looking in to them for produce sales etc but canning for the intent of selling to the public terrifies me because I would never want to get anyone sick by accident! Better to leave that to the tried and true professionals in my opinion 😅

I've been eating home made pickles ever since I was born. That being said, yes she should have done her research before opening a business, but this whole botulism (given that it is rare in pickles) and taking it to the extreme feels just a little bit chronically online to me. People have a right to be upset, but god damn does everyone have to act like they are the extreme moral authority? I'm not saying that what she did was right, I'm saying that people don't seem to know how to make appropriate level of complaint compared to the situation and everything has to be taken to the extreme.

My step mom does pickling and jarring here in Missouri and she goes through the whole process to properly seal the jars (she burnt tf outta her hand once with the boiling water) and it is still such a tedious thing. If the top of one pops and wears down we immediately have to look for the improperly sealed one and throw it out. I would definitely not order that stuff online cause it can so easily go wrong even if someone has done it for years. Not to mention shipping could be a serious issue depending how the package is handled can cause the jar to become unsafe.

I make homemade lactofermented pickles, like the old school way with just salt & some time fermenting on the counter. These pickles are delicious (my kid & my sister-in-law love the green bean ones best) & full of yummy prebiotics that can aid in digestion; it's one of the reasons pickled cabbage is paired with sausages, for instance- it helps you digest the meat better & get more from the preserved food! The garlic leftover in the jar is awesome grated over a meal, so you get many of the benefits of raw garlic without the bitter note of, uh, raw garlic. 😄 Homemade saurkraut is AMAZING, tho it can take freaking FOREVER to pickle (there are some TOUGH fibers in there!); coleslaw is traditionally a pickled food, iirc...so many toppings/sides for meals were originally home fermented to add flavour & aid digestion! The store-bought kind that's made with vinegar gives the flavour, but not nearly as many benefits, sadly. THAT SAID, I wouldn't *DREAM* of selling my pickles, ESPECIALLY if I had to mail them! 1st of all, I'd have to heat process them, which will basically 'cook' the pickle to kill off any living organism within - including all the good yummy ones that pickled the food! 2nd, ain't no way, no how, I am putting myself at THAT kind of risk, especially via a home kitchen, deal lord! A lot of those 'cottage food' laws ONLY apply for items sold within YOUR CITY or STATE - *not* via mail order!! Eek!! I haven't finished the video yet, but I hope she gets it sorted out; pretty much everyone I know that makes food for sale has to rent time in an industrial kitchen to cook it, even a few people that only sell the food via food truck!

Off topic lol but re: what Keith said about eating a whole clove of garlic, I eat a raw clove of garlic when I'm feeling under the weather or I'm trying to avoid getting sick if someone in my house is sick. I also give it to my husband and kids when sickness hits our household. We've been doing this for a few years and we don't get sick nearly as often. That being said, we don't rely solely on homeopathic remedies; we still go to the doctor and take advantage of modern/western medicine too, but garlic has natural antiviral and antibacterial properties. It's really good for you.

I think after pink sauce we've all had our bars for accountability lowered drastically. She seems like she was trying to skirt by regulation and start making money before everything was ready. It's still unethical and she should've looked it up before selling but the fact that she apologized, gave refunds, and is showing progress to get everything proper makes her look like a Saint in comparison.

The only people that I'd consider buying anything from on TikTok are artists. Most of the artists that have come across my fyp have actually had online shops (or physical store fronts) for years! TikTok just allowed them to reach a wider audience.

i’ve never bought from tik tok but thé samsung buldak noodles are safe. they’re sold in asian grocery stores and literally have sold over a billion packs. i love them so much i get them for christmas 😭 something that DOES bother me about them selling them is that they say shit like “oh you don’t have to put in the whole sauce packet if it’s too spicy you can put in a quarter” WHY BUY THEM THEN that’s literally where all the flavour is ffs

I think she deserves forgiveness. Obviously her product is good, it was rated highly and was super popular, her business probably exploded overnight and got to heights she never expected. Most individuals don’t understand the legal nuances of selling food, which is understandable. Personally, Keith going off and saying “She gave it to my FAMILY!!” As if the canned food actually tested positive for botulism but he and his family are fine.. errmmm. A little dramatic, come on man. He got way too up in arms and way to scared from random uneducated commenters and attempted to destroy this lady’s reputation. She clearly was panicking from massive public support turned waves of hatred in an instant. We’re all human and need empathy. If I could eat it, I think I’d like to try her veggies. She clearly wanted to get certified, get her IDs, and spent a good chunk of money on an industrial kitchen. She didn’t ignore people telling her how to improve like Keith said and I don’t like him slandering her like that. I personally think she was wrong for not understanding the nuances of selling pickled food online and to a high amount of buyers but Keith is wrong for majorly overreacting and slandering her name.

You HAVE to see if you’re allowed to sell things to strangers before you start doing it. A couple internet searches before you charge into online business. I’m glad she straightened things out (?) I hope no one dies and she makes a modest profit.

I hope she can come back from this. Seems like she's taking the necessary steps to fix the situation. Hindsight is 20:20 but at this point she's working on it. It'll always be crazy to me how TikTok can jumpstart and destroy people's livelihoods like this. Not saying she didn't deserve the outrage, I just think this small business TikTok culture is wild. People are so brutal on TikTok but also so many people are just making random mf businesses like it's easy. In real life restaurants get coded and make changes and then pass subsequent health checks all the time but the whole world doesn't hope for their downfall at the same time. Must be so scary and overwhelming

i can see why she wouldn't have known about the license issue. i live in south america and you can literally just buy pickled items. like, farmers market, no license needed, pickled in a giant jar, scooped out in the moment. i've bought whole pickled onions multiple times, and i've even slowly made my own by refilling it.

I understand she had limited resources and wasn't fully thinking however when you're working with laws and products that have the potential to make people sick or die then you need to do your due diligence to look into things BEFORE you start selling things to other people. I definitely think social media is making it hard for just beginning small business owners because they don't have the experience or resources needed to fill such a large list of orders if they blow up

I get being inspired by tiktok in Form of make up, clothes, recipes. But I would never ever buy food from that platform. Especially from the US, since some people there think they can do anything and don't educate themselves a lot of times. I still think it's ridiculous that the Pink sauce can be bought at a store and it still doesn't have one single colour.

I've always known canning or preserving fruits & veggies can make you sick but I didn't know that it could cause botulism & I'm very surprised I didn't know that. I grew up in the American south in the Appalachian mountains and canning & jarring foods is so much like a part of our food culture. Until she got alot older my grandmother would do it every summer & it's a food tradition that's been passed on for generations. Perhaps because people have been doing it here for years is why I've never heard of anyone ever getting sick from eating food that's been canned/preserved at home.

While I agree that it's wrong to sell food over the internet without proper education and licensing and then lie about it, I think this problem is blown out of proportion. Botulism isn't nearly as common as people make it out to be. This just like this raw flour thing, which apparently you die immediately when you consume raw flour. Botulism doesn't occur in low pH food. Pickles are made with vinegar, which is low enough in pH as long as you don't stretch it with lots of water. This is why millions of people who have no idea what they're doing make pickles at home and no one dies from that. Funnily enough, I only ever see people on the internet screaming about botulism, no matter what preservation method is used or what is being preserved. You'd get the impression that the people who scream the loudest have no idea about food preservation. Pickling is super easy and fun. You don't need any special equipment for it and people have done that for generations. It's completely safe.

People can and sell pickles and other fruit and vegetables items at home to be sold all the time. Fruit stands and markets, even roadside stands. This comes down to government and licensing/certifications. Of course there could be people trying to make a quick buck and cut corners. We even see that in beauty products. Basically, in the US, just pay the government their cut, which after licensing, certications, taxes, etc you may as well go work for a large scale company packaging their pickles. They'd likely come out better financially and the consumer can receive a sub par, but federally approved safe pickle.
