I can't believe that you didn't mention that the Norman "French", who conquered England under William the Conqueror in 1066, were actually Danish Vikings who had been bought off by the French king and given Normandy ("land of the North men") 200 years earlier in exchange for agreeing not to invade France/Paris anymore. Those are my people!

By the time of the Duke William conquered the Kingdom of England the Normans had ceased to be culturally Vikings and had become almost entirely integrated into the religious, sociopolitical, linguistic and economic landscape of the surrounding region of Gaul.

there is no doubt that the majority of the people setling in Normandy were Danish and when these people came in need of protection from the French it was the Danish king Svend forkbeat who sailed down there and forced the French to guarantee their independence and their DANISH laws just like in the Danelaw area of England. The Norwegians mainly went to Iceland , Greenland, the Faroe and Orkney Islands, Scotland and Ireland. The Swedish mainly went to Russia The Danish mainly went to England and France None of this was exclusively but it was definitely the most common and if you look at the geography it is also logical@@elvenkind6072

Sometimes facts become legends then those become myths, of course they probably knew at some point there was land but the newer generations had no idea after a long period of time. All they had to rely on were myths of a land far West and that’s all it took for them to set sail.

Anglo Saxons having Longbows ???? ( Longbows are Welsh back then Not "English"........... There where no English back in the 850th only Angles, Saxons and Jutes. And they used the same type og weapons as the Vikings did ( The Jutes came from what is now Jutland. ( west Denmark today )The Angels came from southern Jutland ( what is now southern Denmark and northern Germany. The first English Longbowmen came from Wales. BUT that was first long time after the Normans Conquered England. ( Hastings 1066) shields, spears, swords and even Dane axes where used on both sides. during the Viking raides. Please dont make one party look stronger as they where. Just to make the other party that defeated them look more Awesome than they where.

the norwegians did'nt invade iceland, or greenland as they were mostly empty of people living there to begin with. instead they colonized them . nor did they invade vinland which did have an indigious population. they were peacefull immigrants until the indians got rid of them. the danish vikings attacked both london and paris,not just small villages and monasteries , they invaded england many times finally conquering the whole country twice. first by danish king svend forkbeard and later by his son king knut (canute) the great ! before that the angles , saxons and jutes -all of danish dna and not german genetics also invaded england etc.

Norwegians weren't nearly as effective as the Danes, while it's true that they were wild. They had no structure and were late to unite. That's why Denmark had by far the most significant settlements and raids while Norway is mostly famous for settling in barren lands. Also Norway mostly third-partied areas that were already in conflict, for example Denmark during summer when they were busy fighting the HRE and/or England or France. Norway also didn't succeed in taking England in their attempts. I'm not trying to belittle Norwegian viking age in any way, but they can't compare to the Danes. Who had much more success.

Maybe its where your hart lies and so is everyone a bit bias, but I can almost say "know" that the Norwegians at one time surpassed the Danes, not in influentional ways but definetly in brutallity and warfare, look at the marine battles. The Danes had larger numbers but they could not get a win over the Norwegians. It was even so that the Danes asked the Norwegians for help in certain battles,.. look at the Vikings from Trondheim and Halogaland. BADASS MOFOS!😂 look up the battle of 'Hrjorungavag' where the Danes even called upon the Jomsvikings and lost. But there is much passion in what you told mate,... keep it up!

@penguinhistorymedia 10 ай бұрын
Thank you! Many actually believe that the term 'Danes' did not exclusively refer to the country of origin, but that it was more of a title given to certain Vikings. This is supported by the fact that DNA and archaeology suggests that for some Viking bands, "Viking" was a job description, not a matter of heredity. So it's very likely that many Norwegians and Swedes could have been mistakenly identified as 'Danes' by the Franks and Anglo-Saxons, simply because they either didn't know any better, OR that it became a title given to certain Viking bands. It's hard to say! The Viking saga is so complex!

The Danes did not surpas the Norwegians in force, as i said in influence and numbers, YES but not in brutallity and warfare. So YES they were under Danish rule but only because the Norwegians LET the Danes rule them. If i'm wrong, please give me a Saga or battle where it is mentioned that the Danes defeated the Norwegians.

Just wanted to suggest a topic for a new video. As for the Vikings, there was only one battle between the Vikings and the Georgians, where the Vikings were defeated. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Sasireti Throughout its history, Georgia has been distinguished by the strongest fighters with amazing victories in wars, because the history of Georgia from the beginning was a struggle with the biggest empires of the world to save its land and religion. However, little is known to the world about this small wonderland. Georgia has many incredible victory stories, and I hoped that people interested in military history would find it interesting to learn about the history and culture of Georgia, with its independent and centuries-old identity.

True, but we dont know how many georgians fought in that battle. And it was in the late viking age where most of the scandinavians were converted to Christianity, what in MY opinion was the downfall of the Viking succes and strength..
