Great info, I was planning on pruning my lemon tree once moving it inside, but will wait until February. When is a good time to fertilize when moving the pot inside for the winter?
@thegardeningdad9541
@thegardeningdad9541 2 жыл бұрын
Great question. I would immediately fertilize once you move it in for the winter as long as there is no fruit or flowers on the tree! If there are just waiting until you've harvested them all!

Go watch some other videos. They say different things about pruning seasons and cutting green growth. I think this guy is talking more about small young trees.

When do i repot lime trees and lemon trees, and orange tree? I bought 2 lemon trees, 2 lime trees, and 1 orange tree. All are in 1 gallon plastic pot they came with. I bought all of them about two months ago of this year, 2023. Maybe around the end of january. Can't remember for sure. But my orange tree's got tiny, little fruits on it already.. flowers almost falling off of them.. Also, when do i fertilize them? I have heard you do it one time in spring and once more in the fall.

I have a new blood orange tree that’s got a half inch root….so it still need support. However it’s flowing like crazy now. Should I prune off most of these flowers? I can’t imagine it supporting all that fruit at this stage

Enjoyed your video. Looking at my grapefruit ‘tree’ grown from seed It is about 5+ years old but the past summer really grew. Excited but noticed that one leading branch is outgrowing the lower bush-like growth. Would you advise trimming this young ‘sprout’ to align with the other branches?
@thegardeningdad9541
@thegardeningdad9541 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Colleen! Great question. Honestly, you won't need to do that unless you just want it to look nicer :). How it is growing right now is perfect!
@thegardeningdad9541
@thegardeningdad9541 11 ай бұрын
If you don't mind, send me a picture so I can better advise. Off this comment though I like to keep the leading branch and prune all the lower bush-like growth. Think of shaping this tree like you would a vase to get the most sunlight and nutrients to it.

My tree is bushy at top and bottom. In the middle it’s empty. I want to ha clean off the top so that I have a bushy bottom. But I have flowers and tiny fruits on. Also my plant has yellow leaves and I wonder if its pot is too small.

Hi there. I live in the north island in New Zealand. My tree never seems dormant it always seems to have fruit and or flowers so when do i prune it. It is getting too large. Thanks for any help.
@thegardeningdad9541
@thegardeningdad9541 11 ай бұрын
Hi David. What I would recommend doing in this situation is pruning the tree as soon as you harvest the fruit. Pruning when there are flowers could potentially harm the upcoming harvest. If you send me a picture I can give you some better directions. Thanks

I have a lime tree that produces a bunch of baby limes and flowers but then most of them fall off. I cut snipped some off because I was told it would help focus on the other limes that are growing, did I ruin my tree?
@thegardeningdad9541
@thegardeningdad9541 11 ай бұрын
You did not. I am assuming this is a newer tree? Sometimes it is best to only have a few branches growing flowers, so that the energy goes to just these flowers when this happens. Pruning is a great way to help this!
@petercurtis1699
@petercurtis1699 Жыл бұрын
is it true to remove some of flowering for more energy on that branch?

If you would like to have your branches grow and not grow fruit that season then that is correct.

My brother pruned my lemon tree too much including the flowering brunches and fruits buds. His point is to give the tree much air circulation and sunlight to the tree trunk. The pruning was done 2 months ago, the foliage is so thin, and no much fruits. What happens next? Will my lemon tree bear flowers and fruits again?

It will depend on the citrus tree and the type of variety.

Do planting citrus trees grow shorter in containers?
@thegardeningdad9541
@thegardeningdad9541 11 ай бұрын
They will grow shorter because they will be bound by the width and depth of the pot then if you planted them in your yard.

@FlipGardener
@FlipGardener 2 жыл бұрын
No, that’s not normal. Did you grow it from seed? People often think growing citrus from seed is awesome, and in a way it is! Unfortunately citrus grown from seed are very unreliable, and more often than not don’t produce at all. If they do, the fruit isn’t good. Most trees are grafted onto rootstock (typically sour orange or flying dragon) and those are the ones that blossom and fruit all year round. I hope this helps. I’m a 15 year citrus grower in Zone 7 NY.

@@FlipGardener no i didn’t not grow it from seed i got it from a friend and it’s a big tree is there a way for me to send you a video of it thanks you for the reply
@FlipGardener
@FlipGardener 2 жыл бұрын
@@edlainlariviere3863 I’m not sure without revealing email addresses publicly. Either way this is highly unusual. A big tree like that should have at least been flowering and fruiting reliably after 2 years of age. Obviously it’s still alive and thriving which means you’ve been caring for it very well. You’ve given it sun, water, fertilizer, love. Which leads me to my original theory that the tree may have been grown from seed (by your friend). Do you even know what variety it is exactly? Either way, regardless of variety, it should’ve been flowering and fruiting.

I have a lemon tree i had about 5yrs and it has not fruited or flowered yettt.. it's just growing really tall and lots of leaves and thorns. Its actually half dead half alive. Idk how to explain but its really big and not doing anything but growing branches

@thegardeningdad9541 2 жыл бұрын
If you post a picture I can help. Give it a couple more years! Sometimes it takes just a little bit longer. What type of climate is it in? The fact that it has lots of leaves, thorns, and branches is a great sign. It may just need a little fertilizer.
