Nice video Ted! I finally got me a 52l backpack as well and great to see that I seems to fit Youbas well for overnighters. Thats the purpose with my purchase as well, this since the 75-80l backpack is overkill some times. At most of the time for me. I use a Grayl water filter, like it since it doubles up as the water flask i bring. Like stuff with dual purpose. Great video Ted!

Someone mentioned toilet paper. (I agree: Ted! Dude.) I would add to that a small spade. Leave no trace! I also prefer a water filter instead of tablets. Makes life SO much easier on trail (not having to carry water around), especially if you in the low lands (dvs inte i fjällen). And it feels a lot healthier than adding chemicals to your water. 😬 Apart from that - a great video! 😎

Nice video, mate! Just bought my first few pieces of Fjällräven gear (Abisko 35, Greenland Winter jacket and Vidda Pro ventilated), and your videos were great to complement the info on their website with real-world experience. This was a big investment but I’m very happy with it, so thank you for the help! Quick question in case you see this: what gloves are those? I’ve been spotting them in a few of your videos and they look sturdy, would you recommend them?

A couple things off the bat. We need a video of you just eating that chocolate bar in your bag. Who knows how long you've carried that around? Sounds like you filmed that next to a military firing range. One thing I would bring, don't have, but want to get one is a Garmin Inreach. Someone had one on the US Classic and it was pretty cool and could be a life saver if there is no cell phone for a few days as we had, even at the basecamp. Peace

Coming from ultralight side of backpacking KZbin and this video feels very refreshing. No shade on ultralighters, they inspired me to get Durston X-Mid ))) But when watching too much of that content I get anxious about planning my trip and whether any extra gram would break my back xD
@TedWeirum
@TedWeirum 4 ай бұрын
I’ve been eying that tent for sometime now, it looks awesome, what’s your take on it? Getting a solid backpack with a good carrying system makes a whole lot of difference! Slightly heavier also means better quality in a lot of cases but with that said there’s still items I out there that you can get ultralight versions of and mix that with good quality gear for an optimal mix!
@disartster
@disartster 4 ай бұрын
@@TedWeirum totally agree on the backpack, I'd rather have one with more solid structure. As for a tent, I am a complete beginner and have never camped before. But I've done multi-day backpacking trip so knew that I want something as light as it gets and finally forced myself to splurge on Durston X-Mid 2. Might be all the videos I've watched about it, but had no problems pitching it for the very first time. It's beautifully made, indeed very compact and lightweight - no one will believe it's a double tent when packed up. Also liked that you can use inner and outer separately - and purchase them separately too in case you somehow damage yours to beyond repair. Can't wait to take it on a proper journey, counting down the days))

@@TedWeirum reporting back, it was good at withstanding some pretty harsh wind gusts AND the rainfall that was almost deafening (needed noise cancelling earphones to sleep). Pitched it as usual, then realized I'd feel safer with a so called "storm pitch" aka sides closer to the ground. An attempt to adjust it failed as I skewed the whole geometry xD Luckily, re-pitching from scratch took very little time. There also was some condensation in the morning, but I was protected from it by the mesh inner. My only worry on the hike was to break or lose any of trekking poles as they're essential to pitch Durston ))

FAK vs PFAK "First Aid Kit" in clearly market dry bag at top of pack in case someone else had to go into my pack and retrieve it. The prices are cruel. Consequently, I just bought Singi 48, Singi 28 , and Kajka75, only. That yellow Exped bag looks nearly pornographic! You should blur that thing out next time, lol. I carry a very similarly over-prepared bag, including everything in waterproof bags, first aid for others, and even a 2nd headlamp should I run into some bozo who doesn't have one, or in case mine breaks. Leatherman too can help with repairs that just a knife wont be able handle. Those pliers are worth having along. That water bag has been sold out on the US page all year. :( In terms of filtration I'll carry a Katadyn BeFree filter (except in the winter), but I always keep purifier pills in my first aid/emergency kit as a backup. People love to go ultralight and shave weight, but many items are there for your safety, and I've never been in the wilderness without being well prepared.
