The fact he enjoyed Carl Jung is fascinating and important. I love Jung's views because he seemed hopeful in humanity and empathetic. It seems Charles liked him for those reasons too. Scary genius how he took advantage of those teachings; he probably learned about the emotion of empathy through a textbook rather than ever feeling it.

There are multiple possible reasons for him saying that. Maybe it was a lie, in an attempt to better his public image. It's typical for antisocial people to make excuses for their actions and shift the blame to others. Even if it's not actually effective, it's an instinctive reaction. It's quite noticeable in interviews with notorious serial killers with psychopathic backgrounds, like Ted Bundy, who once blamed pornography for making him into the man that ended up killing more than 30 people for fun.
