Wow! I've watched STLYoungBlood for what feels like 10 years now. Still remember his hangar reviews, from back before we had the PU. First time I think I've ever seen him on camera though. For me, the BMM is the be-all and end-all for ships we don't have. Looking forward to the C1 as well.

On the subject of the BMM, I think CIG might have to take another page out of Star Wars: Galaxies book. Where the player is able to control kiosks, vending machines, or NPC salespersons by stocking them with items for sale in the ship. The player would be able to load, remove, and set item prices into these systems and once a purchase is made, collect the money automatically. That way you can park the ship, open it up, and allow people to wander around inside (even while you are offline) to buy stuff. Areas will have to be set up in the armistice zone to allow you to park the ship and lock the cockpit so that the ship can safely be used without fear of PvP or theft. Landing the ship in a low sec area will be the classic risk vs reward scenario. Where higher prices for the goods can be had, but you will have to maintain a vigilant state to be able to sell. Another Star Wars: Galaxies idea that should be ported over to SC is the way SWG did sub-surface mining. In SWG you rode around the planet with a scanner (with SC you could fly) looking for ore deposits underground. The scanner would show a map that would show large concentrations of ore kind of like how fishing sonars work. Once you find a "blob" of it on the scanner you can put down a "drill/extractor" over the area. SC already has the graphic for these "extractors" at mining facilities throughout the game. What is even better is SC could add this to "exploration" by just allowing ships to scan from space for likely sub-surface deposits. Once exploration is tied to mining and then mining is tied to cargo, that will be the next big jump in the economy for SC. Finally, SWG's system for building settlements and towns should be looked at closely. In SWG, once a town was big enough, it was allowed to place money-making facilities within the city limits. Garages, repair stations, fuel depots, entertainment establishments (bar, cantinas, dance halls), shuttle services, cargo centers, mining facilities, etc. The majority of profits of these stores and establishments would go to the owners and a tax is taken out going into the town's coffers. The coffers allow for security and protection in the form of shields, turrets, and missile batteries. Running a town or settlement would be similar to manning a large ship.

How nice would be a system that highlights ships differently on radar. Blue - Normal, non-hostile Yellow - Locked on you Orange - Weapons active / CS > 2 or bad REP with authorities Red - Hostile I'd love it. Currently it's literally Quantum away as soon as another ship pops up on radar, no matter if it's blue or red.

This was a great talk, I hope they add the liberator sooner rather than later and I plan on picking up one when it goes on sale. I’d love to transport ships to save people time so they can enjoy the game, and even if those systems aren’t in the game, it’d be an AWESOME salvaging operation base with its big cargo storage.

I think the Merchantman has public and private sections of the ship, with their own entances and docking ports. The public area has a market room with alcoves where NPC shopkeepers can set up store, so the MM functions much like a station when open to the public. Unless I'm misremembering, they talked a bit about how this all works last time we got an update on the ship.

I see it as a mobile auction house like in other online games. Maybe you'll have a "decorative" part of the ship where it sells guns, but you'll still access a terminal to look at the stock. The player can sell weapons there based on the stock they put into their inventory for that specific merchant. Able to set their prices.

I think a lot of what these ships are definitely for future plans. When the structure of npcs get better it will turn into an almost typical mmo. An example would be like "dungeons" and "raids." Right now we're just "questing" and "leveling up." Think FPS EVE. That's where I feel star citizen will eventually go. So for now, those large ships are pretty much eye candy and e-peen status, but eventually we'll need them for taking down a large scale battle. Then when insurance hits, it will be a giant risk and reward scenario. Do I risk losing this much time and money? Will we will be able to have a Corp bank? A lot of this I think is future planning for the game.

I've always seen the Polaris, Perseus, and Hammerhead as forming a fleet power triangle. So I'm really excited to see that fully formed. Hammerhead for fighter and torpedo defense, Polaris for bigger capital ships strikes and fighter support, and the Perseus for hitting hard and opening up gaps for the Polaris.

Just to add to the talk about refining from around 57:00: my impression for why station refineries take such a long time is not because your job takes all the time, but because your job is in a queue inbetween other player and NPC work orders, so a job that would take a day on a station might only take a few hours on your own refinery ship where you job dont have to wait in a queue.

With the Fury coming out I now am glad I got a Galaxy. It could be made into a pocket carrier. I am also hoping that one of the future modules for the Galaxy will be an Explorer module. The use of the Expanse will come into its own in Pyro, where there are no refineries within the 20-minute timer of the Prospector/Mole.

I think, from what I've read about the "shops" in the BMM and Kraken Privateer which differs from using other ships is that the ships with shops will allow kiosks (or kiosk like NPC merchants) behavior. So instead of having to haggle with all the customers, or take care of their orders directly, you can leave it to the kiosks (or NPC merchants) to handle sales and transfer of goods and focus more on finding things to stock and setting prices for the kiosks. Of course, that probably won't stop every player from trying to get you to haggle about prices, but it is your choice to do so or not. Of course, whether that is successful or not depends on how well CIG is able to give control over the "shop" experience to the owners of those ships.

Yeah, I'm hoping that when Pyro finally drops, we also get the fully upgraded star-map, radar, mini-map experience. That would really make for a solid, 4.0 and a whole new phase of SC's alpha dev.

With a Liberator as a mining platform, W/prospector/ROC and Snubs for protection, along W/a Galaxy for refining. Between the 2 you have a great expeditionary mining combo, esp. since the Liberator has 300 SCU and the Galaxy has crew quarters etc.

About the Galaxy (which I have besides Carrack and Apollo) I would like to add a thought: With Pyro and other star systems at a point your ships and stuff will probably be spread out very far. So for example, I have all my stuff but did some cargo to Pyro, now I'm being asked to help with refining or medical. So instead of going all back and getting the appropriate ship, I could (probably cheaper than buying a new ship) just buy a new module in my area and switch it out. At least I think that could be an advantage in theory. And about the Liberator: I do like Youngblood's idea of "transport my stuff or vehicles anytime / while i'm offline" contracts like we have then in EVE Online, that would be great.

I think once a player wants to load a big cargo ship he/she should have an option to have it loaded for them (or they could do it themselves of course). That should spawn missions for players to accept to load said ship. And the more money the person is prepared to spend for loading his/her ship, the more missions are spawned to load the ship so you can have multiple people working on loading the same ship. Of course NPC's do it if no player accepts the loading mission cause it's just stupid to not have it loaded at all if no player is around.

I can see someone with a Liberator taking a Prospector / expanse / vulture all on a mining / salvaging job at the same time which i think will be more convenient than say switching out to a refinery module to a Galaxy or taking an Apollo / Vulcan / SRV along for a rescue mission.

Yeah, said on my own take, but at the very least, the cargo stations will HAVE to change with the Hull C. Hull C can’t land laden, and the only thing the cargo stations sell currently is Waste and Scrap. Good to see the Hypnotoad on. Love your stuff, Tomato! "[Banu Merchantman] isn't the one that really tickles my fancy" - quietly unfriends. Okay, my thoughts on 01:17:00 -ish is that, if you weren't grouped up with an Expanse and Miners, the Refinery ship would buy the ore - that's how they get it. Buy the quantanium for the unrefined price, the prospector/MOLE goes on its merry way, the Expanse refines it and then sells it to a hauler to go sell it at a station (or just sells it themselves). That's the dream, right? Player A just wants to mine, mines, sells that raw ore to a refiner; Player B is a refiner, just wants to refine, refines stuff, sells the refined ore to a hauler; Player C is a hauler, just wants to haul, buys the refined ore (hopefully at a discount), and sells it at a station where they can get maximum return; [Player D is a pirate...]

My friends and I get together once a week usually (sometimes more) and the Galaxy will have the modules swapped as needed for those times. It's perfect for my friends and I. J L
J L 4 ай бұрын
@isaiah heffernan Completely fair point, I plan to use the Galaxy as more of an industrial-type ship so I wasn't bothered by the lack of pilot controlled weapons. They have some images in the concept art that imply that it can be a combat ship, so I can see how that would be frustrating. I think it's best to leave the combat end of it to the more dedicated warships anyway. Like you said, we've got some good ones with serious firepower.

Bit late to the vid but oh well. With these big ships like the Polaris they have to make a full NPC crew a pretty standard expectation to have and whenever you have friends who wish to join you/log back in directly on your ships bed they simply take a job they like and the NPC that was doing that job before takes a break. With some ships concepting the idea to "stay out in the verse for months" they cant expect you to only be able to play efficiently whenever all xx of your player crew are available at the same time.

My first week playing star I ran into Youngblood not knowing who he was and we got to talking about what ship I was most interested in at the time. The more I think about SC's multicrew gameplay the more I think it's too ambitious. They went through a period of just adding every type of gameplay you can think of, but a lot of them are hard to get right in a narrow focussed game - thumbing it all in to an MMO might not work. I don't see that crew positions are ever going to be interesting on a capital ship.
Paperthin Jr
Paperthin Jr 3 ай бұрын
Unless I get surprised the only logical way sales could work would be maybe a private inventory place for storage that translates to a kiosk. Some base price that items can go higher or lower than based on hidden market values, that can also change based on system. So you buy a bunch of orc-mkx armor in Stanton and bring it to Pyro and the market for it raises to some degree for scarcity. BUT knowing Chris Roberts, that won't be a good enough mechanic.

Preface: I have a BMM that I got for about $300 total with the game package. And this represents my expectations for what the ship was going to be. The BMM (depending on armor/shields/agility) seems pretty vulnerable to piracy. I mean you have to be in a known position to be available to the public, which is a big sign saying "HEY I HAVE VALUABLE STUFF AND WILL BE RIGHT HERE FOR A WHILE!" The dual size 8 forward guns might be meanish but they aren't going to stop heavy fighters (cause you can't hit em) let alone talis or bombers which maybe the point defense turrets handle those torps, and the Banu defender might trade one for one on attackers. The quad turret on the top ain't anything special, with a huge bottom blind spot. Seems like a death trap. All that on top of the crew requirements. Conversely though, the BMM, Orion, and Reclaimer seems like the only money-making capitals confirmed so far so maybe that is something. I expect the dedicated combat capitals like the Polaris end up to be money sinks, costing money to bring them to bear and making them an org status symbol and force multiplier, not a profit-maker. Maybe that is how it is balanced. It will be a beast of a support ship though, and I see it being viable as an org home base, as your org mates can rearm and reequip ships and FPS gear at cost from the mall, minimising the overhead for the org to supply all that stuff. And it will be great for xenothreat and other similar events where it is supported by a whole fleet of small to medium ships.

46:30 hit the nail on the head, my philosophy with buying ships is 100% looks first, gameplay second. It is why I have no MISC ships because god damn are those things ugly in my opinion. I rather have something that doesn't do the job as well but looks a 1000 times better and the RSI Galaxy looks insane. Really crossing my fingers for a grey-ish/white-ish skin for the full Star Wars feels.

@JJ I love some ships. Some ships are just stupid though. Banu Defender is ugly af. The retliator has these weird small canard wings that do absolutely nothing. The Sabre Raven wings are stupid as well. However, I love the Aurora. That looks like a poor mans everyship spaceship should look like. I also love most of Crusader designs. Ships in SC is really hit or miss in my opinion.

The hull c won't affect most of the traders as almost no trading is done on the space stations. I do see missions to balance the load amongst the refineries. This is on spacestations only and involves large volumes of cargo that is dropped off by the miners.

refining for miners we probably are thinking about this wrong. there are a couple ways you could do this, though some ways are more complex than others. 1) a refinery ship could have some of these refined materials already on the ship and offer a 'premuim' to refine them for you. they could offer a long refine for better yield, or offer a fast refine for a better price, sell out of inventory, and take their time refining the ore at highest possible yield. the miner gets a better deal and gets ore sooner, the refiner gets more material, restocks and profits off his yield. in this no money changes hands and ownership is fulfilled with the negotiations of transfer. both sides agree to the speculative price and yield difference is how refinery makes money 2) a refinery contract would quote a yield and date of fulfillment and would require an escrow of the yield value. the 2 parties either agree to meet with the order is ready (not doing so for miner resulting in a penalty or storage fee building, refiner losing a certain amount in escrow for the delay) or bringing it to a 3rd party (like tdd or something similar for settling, maybe a small convenience fee for it) to make transfer if one will be offline or not online at that time. the same rules apply with yields equalling profit for refiner but the need to have escrow will require money to facilitate all this, and possibly a lot of float just to try (float is just liquid assets immediately available, like money or stuff you could sell for money quickly) one to me is simple and would require education to the two parties. one would be potentially complex to implement and structure, but easier for the players to actually do. this is just 2 i came up with listening to you guys, but i think they could easily be refined or changed to make the economy work.

In terms of gas mining/refining it would be cool if we could implement that by adding different bags and laser heads specifically for gas/oil mining to our prospector/mole and it would only be found underground + gassers. This way we could finally get that artwork of a prospector lasering the ground parked on the surface instead of just braking rocks. They would need to remake the whole scanning mechanism for that though. So that we can find pockets of these resources hidden beneath the surface 🤔

My guess is that in order for the Hull-C to work, they'll need to do what they did when they added salvage missions: cargo missions. 1. Pick up contract. 2. Go to cargo deck on station. 3. Ship gets loaded up (load time varies) 4. Transport cargo to location. 5. Penalty for any cargo that is lost. 6. Repeat. So simple, and should have been introduced years ago when they first put cargo decks in the game.

I think they will just expand the economy to make bigger cargo ships viable. It's just a basic matter of scale. So just more demand, more production, and more resource extraction. These are just parameters. I think you guys are underestimating how many people want to be part of a crew instead of flying a ship solo. That sense of group and camaraderie that being part of a crew gives is rare and a lot of fun. Organizing big parties can be cumbersome but certainly something that has been done many times in MMO history.

Considering a ship like the Polaris I don't see it as a casual group ship that you can crew at moments notice for a mission that pops up. I guess it is either part of a big organisation, and the crewing and boarding is done hours or days ahead of an operation or in a smaller org its just crewed all the time. People log in into the Polaris, play on the polaris and log out again in the crew quarters inside of the Polaris at the end of the gaming session. During a gaming session they could patrol high risk Areas for major combatants and maybe link up with allied forces to face even bigger threats. In a Server Meshed Environment I would see hundreds or even thousands of players swarming trade lanes, so the next emergency call should not be far away at any time.

One of my biggest concerns about ship design in the game is now none of the ships appears to have been designed for a fixed crew size throughout an entire mission. The amount of crew you need while in combat is different to when flying, or while loading cargo, when mining, etc. Multicrew with actual players just doesn't work if this remains the case. You can't design a game where some players just don't have anything interesting to do for extended periods of time.

Refining needs to be MUCH faster or MUCH cheaper to do with a dedicated refining ship to make them a viable choice over just refining in a station. Otherwise they'll be skipped entirely in favor of player-made hauling contracts. In eve refining was enormously cheaper to do yourself, but required infrastructure and skills as the trade-off.

I believe big ships will gravitate to special emergent events. Like a raid would be in other mmo. It's not like "let's jump on our Polaris and see what happens". More like... we want to control this moon on Pyro, let's spend a couple days moving the Polaris close by while we operate the Moles and prepare a the transports and a medical respawn. So you may be playing a week to fill a hull E with mineral, all while going back and forth with an MSR to buy component replacements from Stanton... Your Polaris is just chilling there in case you see an enemy org approaching, and you scramble enough hands for a defense. I see a Javelin as Battlestar Galactica. You don't just take it out on a stroll. You have it as a backbone of a fleet, and rotate personnel between the ships depending on the situation.

thought about cargo missions for awhile. You basically become a semi truck driver. You have the truck, but since the mission giver retains the risk on loss of goods, your profit is just a small %. maybe you could steal the goods and sell hot items too for more profit and much more risk and criminal status.

Perseus is arguably the next best ship to put through the pipeline. Ahead of the Polaris, but behind the BMM. I know some may argue that the Polaris should come first, but let me make this point. The Polaris is a huge ship, just in size its a huge ship and its purpose and abilities would be over powering in the game's current state. Along with the fact mentioned in the video that crewing it is a big task in itself. The Perseus however could be reasonably crewed by a group of 3 friends and wouldn't introduce anything new to the game that could be breaking unlike 20 S10 torpedoes. It would be a great counter and/or compliment to a Hammerhead and would make a fairly fun VHRT/ERT target too. We already have the Ares so S7 guns are nothing new, we know the Perseus would be a slow ship so its not going to outrun anybody, its a really small crew count, and makes for a great counter to the 890/Carrack/HH folks that park over the top of JT. Yes, I know the Eclipse/Tali are great at dealing with those, but that's like saying we don't need the Arrow because we have a Gladius. It'd be a great ship to bring into the game even in its current state. My opinion for the backlog is this (putting aside reworks to be sprinkled in): BMM, Perseus, Polaris, Idris (mostly done anyway), Kraken for the RP, Crucible, Endeavor, Liberator, Nautilus, Orion, Odyssey, then Javelin simply due to player requirement. My ordering is based on current and future gameplay loops/features and tech. To provide some non-bias credibility I have an Endeavor that I very much want in the game, but I know it would provide little to no use in the game for years until the right tech is there for it.

I'll add to my list that much of my opinion on the list after the Polaris is gray area as I think it requires a lot of tech work to be done first. For example: I could see the crucible coming before the Idris and I wouldn't be upset as that's a fair ship to bring in. Stanton is a bit small for it, but we're supposedly getting Pyro this year (I'll be optimistic and not dreary). However, Stanton is small for a good chunk of the ships we have now so bringing it in as POC anyway could be a good thing.

Why not make a system to report things stolen... like if someone steals your bag of Quant. Instead of the game making that decision you actually have to report that they stole your Quant and then they get a crimestat or an ai finds them and scans and if they have the stuff they then get the crime Stat.

I think trading should be simpler. Imagine hovering over a player, click trade, they accept trade, a window opens, stuff goes in window, credit amount optional, both agree, done. Makes it easier to pass things, too.

Yeah, I have always said there needs to be more for people to do on a Capital Ship ( or any Ship that has mor e than just a pilot). Sure, a turrett is fun but what do turrett operators do when ther there is no Combat going on.

I wonder, though, are players actually selling out of the back of a freelancer max now?...we can, we have the capability now. What's stopping them if they aren't? Has anyone come across a loot seller? I have heard this so many times, so is there really a market for the player to player in-game sales?

also the expanse is competitive because refining is faster....if you look at the ui in space station refineries today they are at like multiple 100x of max capacity so thats why processing takes ages. with your own refinery you can get your job processed immediately...

WOOT LIBERATOR CALL OUT Liberator also forms the lynchpin of a good mining fleet. You can take the refined ore off an expanse and store *400*! scu of refined material. It can carry a tracker or a 315p for the tractor and scanning deposits. It can carry a pisces red for limited medical support. A few furies for defense. A prospector will fit on the pad too. A group of two or more friends can experience all of SC with a liberator with the right ships on the deck. It can carry an entire combined arms team with a drop ship, marines, ground vehicles, and air support plus being a little fortress by itself. It can do med rescue, exploration, salvage, resupply, taxiing, or anything else. It is only limited by the variety of specialty ground vehicles, small ships, and one medium ship you can fit on the decks. It is the likely end product of my BMM :D And it flew, imo, entirely under the radar.

I think NPC crews are gonna be necessary. The Engineering gameplay looks promising. But how many ppl are gonna want to do that. How many idris, or Polaris, or Carrack or any multi-crew ship owners going to want to fly someone else's as a crew over their own. Also, is that gameplay going to be there the whole time. Engineering, dealing with emergencies. If you have a good "run" you don't get shot, things don't go wrong. The engineering play may revolve around the idea of things going wrong. Weird gameplay when you think about it. I am bored unless things go horribly wrong for everyone else? On the subject of the BMM... i think its gameplay gets further defined when we have more systems and rarity is a better tangable concept. Right now, they take stuff out of stores.. but i think eventually that won't be the case. A modified shield that's only found in this one system because reasons.... or armor that is specific to an area, that I have never been to but need to make my life easier on the one time I need to head there. BMM owner may have it for whatever reason. That adds value to me, someone who stays over in Standon and the Nyx BMM owner comes to visit and sell his wares specific to Nyx. On the expanse, i think it is only useful if we have a way to transfer cargo in space. You are NOT gonna be able to go back and forth between systems due to distance like its flying from planet surface to moon... So, to be profitable in somewhere like Pyro, you need to refine your ore on the spot, package it and send it out. Size of the ship is kind of irrelvant in this scenario because you are offloading the refined goods to a hauling ship. As for ownership... We all have this expectation of solo player X selling his services for task Y. I don't think it's going to end up being that in the end. I suspect it will be closer to Eve... I work for a corp / org. My services are for them. By default.. permissions at this point can be set for the org instead of the individual. And by virtue of being in the org, you are trustworthy. This is problematic in that it invalidates the concept of a beacon but let's be real. I am on discord with 100 guys. Am I going to put up a beacon? or am I gonna tap Joe on the shoulder and ask him to come rescue me from my org? Likely that.

Yeah they definitely need NPC crew, sure there’s some people that want to play crew stations but they’re definitely less than those who want to fly/captain a ship and won’t be enough to even fill up the number of 2 crew ships there will be since only really the smallest ships are single seat at this point

Refinery jobs will always take longer at stations then on player owned ships. The reason for that are ques. Right now they are mainly artificial it seems. Eventually they wont be. Thats why refinery ships exist. To skip that que and be therefor faster.

I'm at 21:47 so maybe it's coming up in the convo, but the elephant in the room with the Hull C is server impact. I've been at NB when someone brought in a full cargo ship, announced it in global, and then the server bottomed out.

I dont think the Polaris is outgunned, it shouldnt brawl with big ships. its a Missile boat. In my opinion they need to increase fighting ranges to 200km. Like radar goeas 200km for capital ships then torps go 30km or so and guns also different ranges. They cant keep everything under 10km.

Polaris is the ONLY viable Escort ship for the Hull D & E. Considering the HUGE investment in cargo for these massive ships you don't want combat... You want deterrence! We have no Ship that can Deter a Cap Ship... Except the Polaris! I Can see a Loaded Hull D being escorted by a Polaris and a Hammerhead! Is it worth it... What would it cost to lose that cargo? Is it fun Gameplay? Only when you Sell that cargo!

Sad to see you talk about the Expanse without even researching it. they have stated it will be able to refine all gasses, minerals and metals, its right there in the Q&A for it. Also another reason for using a ship refinery is the speed, if you go to the station refineries you will notice they are all thousands of percent over capacity which is why it takes so long to process your workorder (supposedly) whereas ship refining will be a much faster skill based system. once again this can be found in the Expanse Q&A.

I dont understand why does everything has to be doable in 5-15 mins nowadays. I hope thats not the case. I hope we will have to plan an do things over days maybe even. I hate that perspectiv of those shortspan attention young people that are bored in 2 seconds if nothing happens with guns and exlosions or fakegirls. I hope they start soon to work more on other mission types at latest when pyro goes live.
