it’s a 1 mana creature that attacks on t2 as a 2/3 (conservatively) with inevitability. Sheer efficiency on stats alone makes me think it has real legs

Some of these are very much powered by commander, mainly most of the eldrazi stuff. But that Goyf is insanely good for modern just as a cheap tempo beater. Will it hold that price forever? Hard to say. But while it's just a solid card in commander, it will have some impact in modern. Also is really scummy that the best goyf isn't printed in the commander deck, and is printed at Mythic rarity. I really do not like they did that.

I remember a time when Maze's End was likely going to be the only land ever printed at Mythic in normal packs (excluding FtV, Secret Lair, and such) cause it literally says "win the game" but now it seems like we're getting mythic lands in every other set. 😔

Yeah I don't remember the last time I spent more than $30 for a modern card. If a card is over 30, I try to trade for it or I don't play it. $60-80 used to be "acceptable" for Lili, Goyf, Karn and fetchlands because modern cards used to retain value. But now because they reprint everything too quickly the cards don't hold value for long. And if cards can't hold value then the high pricetag stops being justified.

flare of denial is showing up way too often in packs for that price tag. there were 3 in 6 sets of pre release packs (36 boosters) and that wasn’t even all of them at that pre release; that was one table which almost had a full playset

I traded the Emrakul I got from my first pack (pulled it with the mardu commander) for a portrait Necrobloom and a Skycaptain. I was a very happy man. I still am, I had no use for Emrakul outside the draft. I got to have my cool moment of casting her for full 12 mana, I can now build the commanders I was interested in - plus I got a picture to prove I had her!

Yes, preorder prices are always higher than right after release. Prices then usually drop again after a week or two unless the card was initially undervalued by the market.

@sorin_markov @sorin_markov Imprinting a 7-cost card is a large hoop to jump through. It means you need that card in hand, which means you need a critical mass in your deck. Many decks will happily meet this requirement, but not enough to justify "most expensive card of the set."

@@ben_clifford It doesn't have to be at the start of the game, there's several 7 "cost" cards that can be played far earlier than that, you can get the card back whenever you like, and if you don't want to imprint the card it STILL produces mana! Card's crazy good, esp in commander

They're super inflated to incentivize Timmies to buy packs instead of only buying singles. Timmies look at these prices and actually believe it's what the cards are worth lol. In reality stores are pulling these numbers out of their asses and the market will tell us what the correct prices are a few weeks after release.

@ML-yn9yu There's a good chance Ulamog retraces back to 60 or lower after people start mass opening the set. So you probably didn't miss anything. Unless it becomes the new best thing to reanimate in modern I don't see it holding over 50 in the short term. Obviously EDH will keep the price pretty high. To know what the card is actually worth you have to open one and try to sell it to the store. :) If they don't want to give you more than $20 for it, then you know it's a $40 card. If it is truly worth 80 they would have no issue offering $40 or 50 store credit. If they don't it means they don't believe the card can hold 60 in the short term.

I hate to say it but those eldrazi titans are the weakest compared to previous ones. If I cheat any of them in play, they do nothing or almost nothing. For example, ulamog the defiler cheated in will gain no counters and have annihilator 0. Previous ulamog a come in cheated or not with indestructible, annihilator 2 (I think), etc. How can Atla amass her eldrazi warlords under these conditions
