As a kid I did a bit of volunteer work at church. Some of which included staining and varnishing or lacquering things. I'd noticed that some of the things as time passed that were lacquered tended to yellow and or darken due to different things .

I think one of my favorite episodes was when you had Steve Howes The Les Paul. .
@musicauthority6742 ай бұрын
I absolutely love this guitar it's a real fancy boy Les Paul. the only things missing, is a maple fret board, and the brass parts. such as a brass nut especially an adjustable nut and poker chip. and the TP-6 tail piece. and the natural finish is AWESOME. Heart in the playing Demo is AWESOME.
@usurper001 Жыл бұрын
After the Steve Howe owned one, this is the nicest one I have seen. That thin red/fuscia detail on all that mixed grain makes it.

It is no coincidence that the Japanese 'lawsuit' guitars started to take really root at that time, since examples like guitar shows the nadir of Gibson quality, and how they ran out of ideas. Don't kid yourself: this is shit. It was shit then, and it is shit now. It is just older shit.
@phillipvisnaw2355 Жыл бұрын
I'm with you on that, when these came out I don't remember any real players buying em.. only hacks! Norlin era guitars were shit...
@butchlauer Жыл бұрын
To add slinky-ness to any stop tailpiece guitar you can raise the height of the tailpiece itself. Lessening the break angle behind the bridge loosens the feel of the strings. This is also the reason behind top wrapping strings. So don't be afraid to un deck the tailpiece and go for those 5 half pitch mega bends, they are possible.

wow... beautiful guitar that is... i love the flame grain on that.... throughout the whole guitar front back and neck look amazing
@Joe___R Жыл бұрын
That really is one beauty of a guitar. I would love to see the custom shop make a batch of them, but add the greeny wound pickups in them. Also, have different accent wood options. Keep the rosewood but also have koa, walnut burl, AAAA maple in a contracting color to the body, and pure black gaboon ebony.

I'll admit to having a cheap soldering iron or two. But when i was training in electronics we had irons that plugged into a box that you cold adjust your heat up and down according to what you were soldering to and parts. The better units also had a built in vaccum if you were desoldering individual joints. Ther was also a heat sink if you were planning to replace multiple parts from a board.

I love seeing this. Some may say it's a shame to have such a fancy guitar be "players grade." Play the damn things. That's what they're for. I mean I clean and take really good care of my guitars. I'm careful with them. But I play them. All. A lot. And if I get a nick or a ding, no it's not ideal. But oh well. I'm a collector at heart. But I collect things I use. If I'm afraid to use it, I don't want it. I have a buddy who collects really high end pocket knives. I'm talking folding knives that cost more than this guitar. God forbid you actually cut something with one of them. Yet the blades are made from the finest steels, the build quality is superb, and the thing would likely be the most useful, reliable tool he has. But we'll never know. The most many of them have cut is shaving his arm hair when he checks if they need a final edge put on them when he gets them. (They rarely do ;) )

The L-5 S was another fancy Norlin guitar that was pretty stiff and not much fun to play.....and really,really heavy ! I had one for about 6 months and traded it away and don't miss playing it but it was a beautiful instrument.
I want one. They made one in the 2000s too that's not as fancy but still beautiful

Very interesting guitar. Great vid as always. I would say the stiffer deal on the strings can be somewhat adjusted by raiding the tail piece. I used to have all my aces decked and had a stiffer feel on the strings. I didn’t realize it. I adjusted one and noticed it really affected that. Set up in general can affect it too. Would be nice to see a video from you on RD’s, love RD’s.

So I don’t typically like the look of “relics” and to be clear I don’t consider this to be “relic” but it is definitely player grade but somehow that wear makes it more beautiful. I cant afford to play in the high end market so it’s something I will likely never own but something about this guitar has me wondering things like “I wonder how many years my roof will last if I don’t have it done this year” or “maybe my kid doesn’t want to go to college” I realize you are keeping this one but I do occasionally see them on various sites. Aside from the Steve Howe you documented I have never really seen one up close and while that one was cool because Steve is a freaking god this one in my opinion is more beautiful and it being players grade makes it even more beautiful. Nice find my man if you ever open that museum I’ll be there on opening day.

That's definitely a nice guitar, even if it's players grade. it's a correct and honest example for that era. it wears it's battle scar's proudly. because it got them honestly. some people want relic guitars. no they don't this is what they really want. an actual guitar with actual wear. this one definitely belongs in your museum Trogly. in the playing demo it sounded good it's definitely a classic rock monster.

Is this a Kalamazoo guitar? oh, the abalone inlays are sometimes picked to match the finish, like, brown tinged for a Viceroy brown finish,,,,,

Salutations Austin! Really nice player’s grade “The Les Paul”! You could put on lighter gauge strings to make it easier to play, if you wanted to improve that aspect. It is a beautiful guitar I must admit, it would be super awesome if the previous owner sent you the piece that broke off of the headstock, it would be really easy to reattach it with the proper adhesive, such as a good wood glue. Without you pointing out the blemishes, I wouldn’t even see them, it looks really nice from here. Thank you for sharing with us and posting these videos! Please have an excellent and awesome day! ☀️✨🎸
