story time: when i got lucky enough to unbox my first knife, it was a fact new Ruby Butterfly knife. It was sold for ~$15,000. It was enough to rebuild the engine for my car (pfp), build a brand new pc from scratch with all new parts, and put back in a ridiculous $8,000 into my cs inventory. thats pocket change when put against over half these items.

I think the reason the horse armor DLC caused such an uproar is because it was priced disproportionately to other DLCs; like, you _could_ spend $30 for Shivering Isles.. or you could spend a fifteenth of that on a purely cosmetic DLC that's hundreds or even thousands of times smaller.

I could also add a little bit of my own nerd obsession here aswell. In minecraft, there exists a server - the biggest minecraft server - Hypixel. And on that server, there exists a minigame - the biggest minecraft minigame - Hypixel Skyblock. Way back before november 2019 (the game was released june that same year) you could dye most of the armors with regular minecraft dyes. In november a patch came out that fixed that bug, but all the colored armors retained their unique appearence. Four years later some of the most highly coveted armors fetch prices in thousands of dollars, for a virtual set of armor, inside a game, inside a game. Insanity!

Knifes in CSGO/CS2 are actually not the rarest unbox in the game (yes, even a stat track knife isn't as rare). Some containers, like the Anubis collection, they don't have knifes in them, and instead, their red item ends up being rare than a stat track knife. (This is not putting into account extra variables such as pattern, knife skin, type of knife, wear/float, or other stuff).
