Regarding the two "Good" endings: In "Escape", Eileen wanting to find a new apartment isn't weird at all, I'm pretty sure nobody would want to live in an apartment where they experienced horrors and almost died like she did, no matter the outcome. In the mother ending, the apartment is still possessed, before Eileen was possessed by the boy, so one could speculate that Eileen is still possessed and that's why she wants to go back.

Out of all the silent hill 4 videos I've watched over the years, you're the first person I think I've seen mention how the game controls during the apartment segments, pick out details about how the story is presented to the player like how people you see in the dream world has a model somewhere in the real world that is sleeping, and even call out the myth of 'cleansing' Eileen before the final fight. All while still delivering your thoughts in an entertaining way that doesn't misconstrue your feelings about the game as "objective" facts like so many other creators tend to do in attempts to look 'smarter' than their audience. Great stuff! I knew you were something serious when I saw your Gears Judgment video. You're going right up there in the list of my favorite underrated KZbin channels in the company of ThorHighHeels, Tehsnakerer and GrimBeard.

1:18:25 There is a theory about this cutscene that it reveals Walter's desire to return to the womb (or to feel like a child inside mother's womb again). The game itself has umbilical cord symbolism (a big greedy worm gnawing holes in the walls) and the game files contain many cut models with animations related to childbirth and a child in the belly. Apparently, all this was cut due to censorship, Rodolfo Nunez found all these files on his channel and showed them. ("SH 4 unused models with animation from spiral staircases") . The game's final boss, in the form of Walter's body covered in an organic film with umbilical cords running through his body, also ties into this theme.

I'm pretty sure the "mother" ending has Eileen wanting to go back to the apartment due to walters influence. The hauntings still being present means there's still power keeping her there. I think early in the game you can over hear a conversation with her and her friend where she wants to leave the apartment but doesn't because "theres just something about it" where as in the other ending, the apartment is cleansed and she has nothing keeping her there so she wants to leave.

This guy’s channel is important. All we hear about is anxiety and stress for meeting upload schedules and getting punished by the algorthm. This guy is doing three a year and getting a million views per video. Maybe there is something to this? As a psych I’m always really concerned when I see KZbinrs burning out and developing anxiety over a videos performance, or highly anxious over missing an upload so they can take a holiday. Also, fantastic content. I don’t know what it is, but these videos are really engaging.

I wish my anxiety about these videos were better but I'm always second guessing these because they still aren't at the level I want to be. Genuinely I wish I could really tear the veil and provide hours worth of analysis without using the story as a backbone to make all my points, but that requires a lengthy amount of time that I don't have currently. It's a reason why some of the best videos on this platform take 6+ months to a year to release. I.E: Hbomberguy I would love to get to that point, and really I only feel like I hit mark there with my Fallout New Vegas videos, but that's also because I've played that game and on and off religiously for a decade. Find the balance between quality and consistency has been a struggle this year.

“Frustrating” was a perfect word choice for this game, in my opinion. I’m not saying it’s a bad game; on the contrary, I find it kinda genius. However, the infinite loop gameplay back and forth through the holes and the undying ghosts are not really my cup of tea and make me feel frustrated. I really like how you structured the video, describing the experience and inserting memes, curiosities, and theories without spoiling the whole plot straight up. There were many things that went unnoticed while playing that were presented here; it’s really interesting and entertaining. I was really looking forward to this one. I think "Cleaning the apartment" being the one that lets you leave it is more important. It's symbolic of letting go and moving on, and putting these horrors behind you. With it still corrupted and staying, I believe the implication is that whatever force still lingers has a grip on you or Eileen and wants to use her for....Something. It's just unsettling. That's my look at it though.

I really feel for Walter. It's always welcome when media communicates that the conditions imposed on us, together with the lack of compassion and solely punitive laws and learned behaviors by society, can create extremely broken people. People are still people regardless, and they still deserve a chance for rehabilitation. While Silent Hill 4 doesn't have an ending where Walter has any chance to be rehabilitated, I truly appreciate you showing compassion and interpreting his ending with as much empathy as you could muster, shows that you are a kind person.

Also, I have an interpretation I’d like to share for why Eileen wants to go back to living in Ashfield if the hauntings aren’t cleared, while deciding to leave with Henry if they are cleared. To me, the act of clearing the hauntings inside of the room Henry is stuck in means he’s being able to work on his own unseen trauma. Henry seems unfeeling at times, but I see that as him hiding everything under a mask of near indifference, and on a philosophical level, we can interpret the hauntings as being manifestations of his inner mental state as well. He is only capable of clearing the hauntings after he finds Eileen, so the message I get is that Henry, like every human being, needs the help of another in order to heal, just like Eileen needs his protection to not get immensely hurt and become “possessed by trauma” to the point that it leads to her untimely death by suicide. By “clearing the hauntings” and protecting Eileen, they can move on with their lives at the end; they can leave their traumatic past behind and start a new life together, hence Eileen telling him that she wants to leave Ashfield. If Henry doesn’t “clear the hauntings”, the cycle of trauma and pain will continue for the both of them. They’ll go back to the same place (and state of mind) where they were suffering, both of them alone, isolated, haunted and separated by a wall.

I really think this is underrated, people hate Henry, I love him because hes so chill its funny, but it does have its problems. Repeating all the worlds, the ghosts never dying, the limited inventory...but I love the story. The twins monster is so creepy...the intro to the game is even scary, still holds up. After beating Silent Hill 4 just recently, I went on a binge watching as many videos about the game as I could. This is my favorite. It does the best job of capturing what the game actually feels like to play, where it excels and disappoints. It also brought forward a couple of story details I'd missed and hadn't seen brought up elsewhere. Good job with this!

I love Silent Hill 4, but SH3 is by far the scariest. And the one enemy burps bc it represents gasses leaving your body after death.

I understand why people don't like SH4, because it does have a lot of flaws, but I can't help but be intrigued by it because when it does something well, it does it _really_ well. The characters and overall story really deserve better, and this is absolutely a game that could've been great if the developers had more time. As you pointed out, the comparison between Henry and Walter is vague, but very interesting, and it would be fantastic to see this concept expanded upon. I'm really hoping that the success of the Silent Hill 2 remake means that we might get a remake of 4. Of all the Silent Hill games to experience in a new, more complete way, this is the one I'm most excited about. P.S. Maybe it's just his general lack of expression, but I didn't get the impression that Henry was into Eileen in the way you're implying. I personally like to see them just as friends, particularly because it's nice to see a person you save not necessarily being a love interest.

I don't think the game tells you at all, but in the other world with Eileen you can actually place down a Holy Candle and it will slowly heal her of her possession but I believe it doesn't affect your "points" towards the bad ending, which is measured by how much damage she took (and that determines how fast she walks). I'm not actually sure what this achieves beyond making her a little less sluggish. I don't really remember if this is true, but I remember being told that you can take away Eileen's weapon when you just want to run past enemies and she won't stay stuck there fighting them.

Ok. There are a few things to note about the Ghosts First of all, the ghosts have a health bar, but it is not the same as the enemies that you regularly fight; all regular enemies actually have, functionally speaking, two health bars. One is the true health bar, which if it hits 0 they will always die. However, they also have a 'stamina health bar', one that is less than the regular health bar and when it hits 0 causes the enemy to fall onto the ground to be stompable, yet they can also get back up if left alone for a time. In practice, the ghosts do not have a true health bar, rather all ghosts only have this stamina health bar... It should be noted that, like with regular enemies, if you lack proper DPS you will not down an enemy, as your damage output will be negated by their stamina health bar having regenerative properties. Against regular enemies, this means you can actually kill things like the dogs without them ever falling down due to their stamina being depleted. For ghosts, this means that if you are not fast enough, you will NEVER DOWN THEM. This can be quite troubling, as with many of them including Cynthia and Jasper, they will RUN AWAY if their health has been depleted enough in order to prevent themselves from going down. In practice, it means that the Hand Axe is actually not the 'best' weapon to use. A lot of people use it due to it having invulnerability frames, yet in reality when fighting ghosts the proper way to down them is with the regular spam attack, as the DPS output of the charge attack allows many of the ghosts to regenerative out of the damage or simply run away. It should be also noted that whilst the Stun Gun is great for regular enemies, it does ABSOLUTELY NOTHING against the ghosts, so don't bother. Guides may claim that certain weapons such as the shovel (a weapon you can get hidden away in the building world along with the baseball bat and hand axe) or the hand axe are the best, but in my experience? That exacto/paper cutter knife that you pick up within the hospital is just as if not better. With a Medallion, having the exacto knife with eileen using her weapon (the best weapon she has is the Chain that you get in the Orphanage Playground) and both bashing the ghost until they fall is the best thing you can really do, and just being overwhelmingly unrelenting. Just spam attack your enemy and constantly fight against their regenerative health... if you try to go for any technique that doesn't favour DPS? I have seen a lot of people fight those like Cynthia on Twitch before with things such as the Hand Axe... some have taken over 30 minutes of them chasing after them and just failing at doing so. Grab the Paper Cutter and Medallion if you don't want to use the silver bullets or any of the regular bullets.
