Totally agreed. “Oh here’s the actual release date, pay us more to play it on that date or wait another 3 days even though you spent 70 bucks.” Is such a slap in the face. Unfortunately though, I don’t see this going away.

£50-60 or 70-80 dollars for basic edition is already expensive, the extra 30-40 is just sheer greed and allows people that have more money the sense to play a game earlier then everyone else.

Dude, the thing i can't stand the most, regarding early access, is the KZbin channels that have the ability to play the entire game in the early access period. It really sucks that every Resident Evil and God of War game is acquired by certain channels, and the entire game is posted, start to finish, before the game is widely available for everyone to purchase. It seems like game companies do not have a lot of faith in their product, in my opinion. I say this, because it seems like they are more invested in the first week sales and general influencer reviews, than the overall sales of the game, over it's lifetime. Early access pre orders are always digital downloads, so if the game sucks, or is broken in some way, getting a full refund is very hard to do (which is part of the reason they bundle early access with physical assets...shipping and handling ain't cheap). I can't imagine there are tons of people who watch an entire let's play of a game, then purchase the game themselves. If a popular influencer plays a game, and their let's play gets millions of views, that word of mouth seems more important than actually getting the game in the hands of more players, after the first month of gameplay. I feel a day one embargo should be in place. If you have an advanced copy of a game (pre-order or gifted by a developer), you can play the game, record your content, and even review the games (spoiler free), before launch. Once the game officially launches, then post away. The movie industry does this. Once movie reviewer go and see Deadpool and Wolverine, they'll be under embargo until the film hits theaters, then they can openly talk about it. The film studios don't want their hard work (or their opening night) spoiled by KZbin move reviews. That makes all the sense in the world, to me. The gaming industry does not.

100% agree with this. The only embargos I'm against are review embargos, but you shouldn't be able to do an entire lets play or stream of a game before launch. Also, it's unfair to everyone else too even in that circle. I think it matters MOST that it's unfair to the general gamer that they get it ruined for them, but then it also prioritizes corporate shill channels that can get literally everything early cause all they do is gas up every product to get free stuff, so then there's all these spoilers everywhere AND there's unreliable reviews, because people don't want to lose their meal ticket. It's just gross imo.

@DegenerateJay agreed. We all kinda knew Kill the justice league was going to fall far short of expectations, pretty early before launch. Some channels just kept gassing the game up, however, as if we couldn't see the glaring flaws with our own eyes. Look, I get idea that different people can like different things, but why is Bommerang shooting guns?! That one still doesn't sit well with me. I guess, as long as they can continue to get access to company invites, honesty can take a back seat to glad handing. Compared to Kill the Justice League, Avengers was a decent game. It's certain going to have a longer lifespan. At least Avengers made it to two years. I don't see Suicide Squad making it that long.

Honestly I very much pretty much have stopped pre-ordering games after pre-ordering suicide squad and getting burned by how bad the game was and it was a mistake I will never make again

Pre-orders were a little predatory back then in the ps3 era but most of the time you got value out of it, nowadays I would say you have to tread even more lightly when pre-ordering, not that you can't pre-order its just way more predatory and has less value now.

"Well no there'll be the day one patch" So the game should be released later cuz it's not done? "Pre-order now and get 2 bonus missions!" So what you are saying is I'm not getting the full game at launch? "Well no these will be available as DLC further down the line" But it's available right? In game? "If you preorder" So it's not the full game at launch?

I personally see no issue with early access, if people are gonna spend there money they're gonna spend there money. At the end of the day what they spend it on is up to them. Good video though!

Other than that, it's people paying to be a beta tester a few days early. It's more just obnoxious. At least "Early Access" isn't "Here's items you can only get if you preordered, otherwise F you," as that's even worse.

The first time I preordered a game was spiderman 2 and I bought it with the ps5 bundle. If I had known that the game was gonna come out at the state it was I would’ve waited longer. It wasn’t😢 unplayable, but because of the gap in quality compared to the previous game it made me less interested to keep playing. Most of the rewards for preordering weren’t that great and the bugs and lack of new game plus it just sucked the excitement I had for the game.

I remember ppl used to stand outside of gamestops when their preordered games released at midnight. But nowadays, I would rather just preorder and/or buy the physical copy of a game if I know its going to be good and I really want to keep

Very relevant video! Telling others not to pre-order games because "this is dumb" or "they're dumb if they do this" is useless and uninsightful. People may feel intellectually superior by saying this, but meanwhile, they don't think by themselves about why this is a bad idea, they don't try to validate why this is a bad idea.

Another thing about pre-order (at least for fighting games) is you have the option to get dlc fights but a year later the legendary edition or whatever releases and all the dlc is uploaded to the game. *Looking at you NRS (Mortal Kombat and Injustice games).

Sonic's preorders have been driving me nuts for years. It's always so confusing and you can't actually seem to get all the preorder bonuses/DLCs... It's just making me wish I didn't care. And the danger with making your fanbase feel like that, is eventually they may indeed stop caring.

Pre-ordering now when games are released unfinished, buggy and are available digitally is stupid. There's no scarcity to neccessitate reserving a copy and you aren't getting a complete product anyway. Whats the point? A few days early access is a crappy pre-order bonus too, I got a 12" Vinyl when I pre-ordered Persona 4 Arena back in the day, now thats a cool bonus.

I definitely agree this is becoming a big problem when it comes to single player games. For instance, the new life is strange game was just announced and if you buy the ultimate edition which cost $30 more than the standard edition you get two weeks early access to the game for the first two chapters. So as someone who is a massive fan of the series and does not want to get spoiled, I feel like I have to buy this version of the game and pre-order it just so I don’t get spoiled, which sucks because it feels like they’re making me not have a choice on what version to buy

The one time i ever pre ordered anything it was Kh3 i preordered it from amazon because i wanted that Dawn till dusk keyblade and because they promised early access to said game i did it and it didn’t even arrive until a MONTH after the game released and the Code for Dawn till dusk keyblade didn’t even work! why? idk 🤷‍♂️ apparently most didn’t i saw so many people complaining about preorder codes not working which is just sad never pre ordering again

I ordered Spider-Man 2 and the shipment was lost so I got all of it spoiled. 12:00 on release I was just on KZbin and it gave me a miles vs Peter boss fight.

If you want to play the new assasins creed and Star Wars outlaws you can sign up for Ubisoft premium. To play the game 3 days early it’s 170 Canadian or you can pay the 20 for the subscription beat it in a month and cancel it. That’s what I’m doing lol.

pre ordering a game is fine, having an initial release date set and violating that set date by allowing people to pay 30-40 extra to get a 3-5 day head start is full on greed. I guess i can understand it because theres idiots out there that have more money the sense that pay to play early which generally doesnt really give them any more benefit in the game other then time.

Pre-ordering only makes sense if it's a limited supply. Basically only physical copies as far as I can see. Maybe another way is if you really want to support the game. I did this with AEW Fight Forever and that will be the last time.

I see your points and do think that these practices can be predatory when developers have the intent to manipulate their audience which is unfortunate but I think pre ordering can have it's advantages at times such as when Ghost of Tsushima and Street Fighter 6 were coming out and I didn't think it was necessary to preorder them but then I couldn't a few days after release I couldn't find the games in stock because they were bought up which forced me to have Ghost of Tsushima shipped to me and being able to find a copy of Street Fighter 6 in the mall which could have been avoided if I had preordered the the game without the higher costing editions. Sparking Zero is likely going to be a highly bought game that might require preorder for people like me and other editions have things like statues that could be interesting for collectors but it all comes down to if people think it is necessary.

See here's the thing. The early access are meant for streamers and KZbinrs. They have it early and will get priority on views of said game. I mean it's hard cause if people want to make money off my hard work and if they willing to pay to be the 1st one to show it off then y not take advantage of it 🤷‍♂️. And no matter what there will be a KZbinr that will say stay away from the Internet to be spoiler free when it's impossible to do 🤷‍♂️. So IDK id say they should stop the early access all together but just like back in the day someone will still spend more time play early. So if they got it then they got
