The mountains in this game are really something else. Got to hunt some bighorn sheep in the She devil mountains and I was shocked at how high you can get and the terrain is still so complex, sheep also go up there so it isn't useless going up there.

The render limit in COTW is one of the things that disappoint me in that game, it's nice to see that WOTH has longer render limit and allows for such long range shots.

400 meters render distance in a game where you can spook an animal from 300 meters? A hunting game should be ALL about the render distance. With the current gen of consoles and pc capabilities we finally can get proper huntung games. WOTH is performing well enough for launch version and the map is an absolute masterpiece. My personal shock is how walkable and complex the mountains are instead of being a dead rock that either has nothing or can't be climbed. Had the chance to hunt mountain goats and bighorn sheep reeeealy high up.

Yeah but cotw is still a lot better in most aspects and for your information, there is a way to make cotw render distance to 800m.

I hope we get a spotting scope in a update and the spotting scope allows us to see what star rating the animals are at a farther distance even if we have to put it on a tripod to balance it so we can’t just run around with the spotting scope.

The reason you got a full hunt rating was because you hit the animal with the right energy. Sometimes regardless of tier of the animal and rifle if the energy is right you will get full score and harvest the most meat. If you look at the top right of the screen when your down sights and in hunter sense you get a shot analysis, distance and energy. If the energy glows yellow your in the right band of energy for the proper kill.

Recently got the .338 Lapua, decided to do some longer range shots. Ended up killing 3 moose at about a little over 300 meters and they all dropped either immediately or about 50 meters away from where I shot them. Got lucky that they didn't run too far or fast. Harvested those and about 5min later killed 3 more about 400 meters away. So about 6 moose in 20 min lol. Long range shots with that rifle is a lot more fun than I thought it would be. Gonna try and do lot longer ranges like you did in this video

The difference is bullets weight, you could use .308 win on small to big game. Same thing with the .300 Win Mag. I like this game because of that aspect

Yea its very well done, can even use calibers on stuff they normally wouldn't be usable one as long as it loses enough energy over long shots. .308 is 100j too high but over long distance it loses enough to be perfect. I love it!

That 243 you are referring to in your video has known bugs related to the issue you were having. Use the styr 2 instead. It works well on mule deer and whitetail from my experience. Best of luck. Nice vid btw.

you could only hunt it with 308 cause the energy drain was big enough with that distance that it dropped to legal energy range for that animal... try again on 150 m and you will get a shitty hunt rating

Really loving the game so far, cant wait for different ammo and caliber options. Hope they'll add some 6.5mm rounds. Would love to go mountain game hunting with a 6.5x68 RWS (or with 6.5x57 Mauser, or even 6.5x55 Swede) with (hopefully the ability to have) lighter grain bullets, then get some heavier bullets for larger game. Here's to hoping anyway. As for performance, I'm quite surprised I can play it as well as I can. With my older 580 8gb(got a steal of a deal on a 6700 xt coming...), I can still actually play it on 3440x1440 ultrawide, granted with low fps on medium but still.. It's tolerable for me. Enjoyed this, good vid!

That's realistic, the .243 winchester is not really that flat of a shooter because it requires smaller weight bullets. Something like the 6mm Creedmoor has the advantage of using heavier bullets and helps it shoot flatter. FYI 6mm is .243 caliber

What's funny is that the 243 Winchester shoots the exact same bullets as the 6creed. Both are 6mm and both can run 100 GR bullets. The 6creed is just marketed as long range.

Not really. The guns just bugged. 243 is a very fast round irl and it's a pretty capable long range cartridge besides the fact that it's a lighter bullet by nature.

I love this game, but in some places on the map the animals are just too few and far between. I like the realism, but I don't like to regularly walk 20+ minutes and not see anything. Realism is one thing, but it is still a game. I think if they made maybe animal calls noticeable on hunter sense from further or something, that would help. Walking mountains for a while with nothing kind of sucks.

No you get both maps and all the content with the base game, the elite version only gives you access to future add ons so it really doesn’t do anything yet.

There's no need to buy any add ons at the moment. The season pass already seems at the price of at least two maps so I'd rather wait to see if these two maps is all this season pass is gonna give us.

I heard from someone that when you aim from high up you need to aim a bit lower as the bullet is shot at a decline anyway and falls less than when shot horizontally. Was aiming for the lungs of a bighorn and hit it in the spine from 300 meters and quite much higher above the lake near Yi's cabin.

@@connorkenway09 The distance you want to "use" is the horizontal distance. If you shoot 45deg down and have a true range to target of 450m, the scope should be set to about 300m.

Do the story and you get rewarded enough to buy any weapon. You even unlock the Vlkov cabin without needing to spend on reserve permit. I assume it goes the same for all the cabins once you pass their objectives. The objectives are very hard tho, still looking for a damn black bighorn sheep and nearing sheep genocide 😂

COTW is a good game different play style then WOTH I really like both games

Not only the render distance but once you switch from WOTH to COTW you'll be shocked at how bad 30fps actually is. COTW is laggy and grainy just so it can look well on the hardware it released on. There is a lot of maps and animals but that doesn't mean fun. You mostly walk across the map not finding anything. And animals tend to take up triathlon after they're shot. Each has it's pro and cons but WOTH is definitely more fun for me despite being more realistic in some aspects.
