Really lovely to see a channel devoted to music and which has a talented musician explaining its beauty. Well done young man. B

"Caruso" by Lucio Dalla is beautiful and underrated. Pavarotti sings it so well.

As a professional bass player, you've identified something that's really key to my role in the band. There are so many times I'll roll off the 4th to the 3rd before landing on the root, and it's always divine, and it always adds movement, melody and depth to even the simplest rock songs; like Summer of 69! C - - F - E - C G

This is absolutely amazing. The song you wrote at the beginning really spoke to me. Have you published it anywhere? I would love to listen to more of it.

Thanks! I haven't published it yet, but I'll probably make a score video and post it soon.

Your brass parts in your composition are also FABULOUS.

Personally (obviously, but forgive the tautology!), I think the asymmetric arch of the _leap_ of the 4th followed by a falling step of a 3rd or 2nd more evocatively powerful: D-G-E & G-C-B.

It's interesting that nowadays there are a lot of cell phone jingles/chimes that use similar discents.

It’s awesome and definitely gives me the feels. The Tannhousser overture has similar movements

Check out the Adagietto in Mahler's 5th - a good candidate for one of the greatest melodies of all time. The climax combines motion like this with lots of suspensions. Abbado's is my favorite there as well :)

IIRC Massenet and Debussy often used the type of this shape which goes 7-6-3 above the bass

Amazing insight - thank you so much! I shall certainly delve deeper into music that employs these notes, and use them in my own music where I can!

The song Feeling' Bad Blues by Ry Cooder is perfection on this theme. Not sure how closely it follows the pattern but he makes the slide guitar cry which in turn creates the same emotional response.

Hi, I was wonder if "The old woman" from Somewhere in time, has those notes. I don´t know anything about music composition, but every single time I hear that music, my heart breaks. Could someone tell me if it´s because of the notes? Thanks a lot.

It’s like a 2nd inversion chord but starting onthe half tone (4) - 3 - 1 -5 I thought :-) G-C-E + F - from right to left :-) Or Maj7 without 6

When I saw the icon (b flat, a, and f) I thought about the Jurassic Park theme. But no, it was Schindler's list, I only got the composer right.
