I've seen a bunch of comments asking about it, so here's an answer: I had never seen ARTV's videos before today. Just checked him out and he seems like a good guy. Fiverr must've contacted both of us at the same time about the redesigns and we both ended up making videos revolving around them. No big controversy. Kanye, rumors and just about all the negativity in her life. Her name in the headline font is not covering the whole album cover just half her face and the side and to me it means she’s passed all of it “ my reputation’s never been worse so you must like me for me”. And she’s literally Past it all LOVER is definitely her seeing the good in just accepting it and moving on because she’s in love and it’s been proven to her that joe doesn’t care about what they say of her and he LOVES her

For me, the best album redesigns were the Nirvana, NWA and of course Sgt. Peppers. Awesome list! You should do a list of your favourite album covers from this year and maybe sort them into Thematic, Identity or Originality as well.
@vercetti_033 жыл бұрын
Illmatic is pretty iconic too. The way kid Nas is transparent and looking at you frowning, while the background is the streets of New York. It kinda shows how Nas' life is a reflection of his environment.

This video is very inspirational :D. I remember as a kid, with the last report card of the year we didnt get money, no, we went to the record store as a family as tradition every year and picked out one record each. My brother and I usually picked something based on the album artwork, listened to it in store, and if we liked it we got to buy it. It was such a wonderful experience, and later in life I got into creating art myself. I graduated in Game art and am now studying Illustration & animation, to try and become an illustrator & animator for the sake of music (album covers, music videos, posters etc). Nothing has brought me more joy then the diversity there is to find, and lately I've been going back into the habbit of trying new music just based on the art, giving it a shot and if I like it, it's a stayer. I do this via r/albumartporn on reddit, save what I visually like, and look it up on spotify. It has brought me a few gems already. Last but not least I really like the modern look the born in the usa album redesign has ^^, Would love to see more videos about album covers in general and their relation to the music of the given project. Thanks for all the good stuff!!

@@Sabbathfaax That's what I'm saying, it's not "iconic", it's not even it's own thing - it's an imitation/parody/homage/copy/ape/lampoon whatever. And it's not anymore known than any other common average cover picture.
@Sabbathfaax4 жыл бұрын
@@nl3064 fuck no it's incredibly iconic and partly BECAUSE it's based on the Elvis cover. The whole parody in itself exerts so much punk energy. At this point the cover has even transcended the original cover in recognition. The picture of Paul Simonon is easily one of the most iconic pictures of musicians of all time, so much so that the original smashed bass has now been preserved in the museum of London

Is nobody gonna mention “Crisis! What Crisis?” By Supertramp? Not only is the actual songs in it amazing but the album cover is also fantastic. For those who don’t know it’s a man in swimming shorts and sunglasses sitting on an orange and white chair under an umbrella of the same colour. That small segment is the only part of the album cover with actual colours. Meanwhile behind this relaxed man is a breaking down almost dystopian city of factory’s and other not great things. Not only does this correlate to the title but also reflects the denial of plenty of governments of modern day growing problems. It mirrors politicians and governments living in their own little paradise unaware of the “crisis” behind them or more in denial of the crisis. It’s a great album cover that conveys a message that still holds up today.

I don’t know. “With the Beatles” already put a lot of creativity and sharp design into an album cover
@geoffreybrunell55922 жыл бұрын
@@SirAnthonyChirpsALot The Beatles are one of my favorite bands but I don't love their pre-Rubber Soul albums as much as their later albums. So, at first I was skeptical of your claim about the cover of With the Beatles, but I did some research into it. I do have to admit that more thought and effort was put into its design than I had assumed. Though I think it was still only somewhat of an outlier at the time it was released. It still fit into the norm of album covers in the early 60's just being a simple photo of the band members, even if it was edited in a certain way. I think Revolver's cover is what really lit the spark for album covers to have more creative designs.
@50gary2 жыл бұрын
Rubber Soul, was an outtake photo that was distorted, immediately upon seeing that particular photo all four said "that's it" and it is. Artistic, iconic, and intimate, the distorted images foretold the emerging psychedelic influence.

Ik I’m late but this video now more then ever has been very interesting and influential to me, recently(since last year) I started listening to albums based off of the cover and how much I liked it without having listened to any of the artists prior music to base it off, 4 albums that encapsulates that perfectly were liquid swords by Gza, atrocity exhibition by Danny brown, random access memories by daft punk and kid a by Radiohead. I had no idea whether or not I’d like these albums but I chose to listen to them anyway just based off how much I liked the covers and I think that shows the power of album artwork.
