Weak 4th gear, seems like a known issue on the forums. They tend to break when people turn up the boost and produce higher torque. The fact that the L15 makes a ton of low end torque exacerbates this problem. HPD makes beefed up gears that solve the issue though.

The fact you started with " when you start to modify " is the best part. As a Honda Tech I have a 18 Si and drive it hard, all the points you brought up are spot on. These cars are so fun to drive stock but when you do add power you have to support it with upgraded parts, you could also add switching to Head studs instead of the stock hardware for a better clamping force when pushing more boost. Some people think these things are like the old days where you can just start cranking it up, nope, you got to be careful. .

Weak clutch: sadly, the only solution is to get a better one Oil dilution: happens to every DI gasoline car. Drive the car further and let it warm up, short drives where the engine doesn't fully get up to temp will exacerbate this tendency. Carbon buildup: again, let the engine get up to operating temps and floor it regularly. According to VW, Subaru, BMW among other forums, carbon buildup isn't as big of an issue if the car's driven hard even semi regularly. The Honda 6 speeds also have an issue with weak gears (moreso 4th gear), and HPD makes a beefed up gearset for higher power applications.

@turdferguson7438 2 жыл бұрын
@@jewberg7729 no, the combustion cycle has nothing to do with oil dilution. It's everything to do with fuel condensing on the cylinder walls when it isn't at operating temperature, hence why cars with the L15 turbos that get driven very short distances have this issue.
@turdferguson7438
@turdferguson7438 2 жыл бұрын
@@jesspeachie yes, you want the valves to get hot enough to burn away that carbon. Mazda actually did a study on this and designed the coolant passages in their Skyactiv cylinder heads to not be as close to the intake valves so that they get hot enough to help negate carbon buildup.

Update as of now. I have a 2017 civic si coupe with 69k (nice) miles on it. Ive kept constant check on my oil status by giving the dip stick a whiff everytime I check it just to make sure the gas smell isnt too strong. I get my oil changed every 3k miles or so to feel better about it. Oil changes are pretty cheap anyway so it would benefit to treat the engine to fresh oil as often as possible. Since it seems the fuel blowby issue is most common when the engine is cold, as of july last year I have started using at least 5w-20 in the engine to try to protect those cold starts since fuel can thin the oil out overtime. The car itself has been driven pretty dang hard throughout its life. It was tuned running Hondatas 9+ ots tune since as early as 8k miles. The clutch died at 15k. And has been thru 3 sets of tires already. The car has long since been put on a more powerful tune and improved with several bolt ons. Before I hit 60k i felt like the cars fuel economy was suffering so I changed the spark plugs at 60k miles and was shocked to notice my fuel economy return. Up to 43 mpg on my longest trips. The car has no odd smells or noises or any sign of leaks or odd behavior. I have also hit several deer in this car and suffered only from body damages. Car still drives like it was born yesterday. Heres to the next 70k miles 🍸 Meant to add that yes the car has been tuned the whole time running up to 25lbs of boost with full throttle shifting enabled for the last 30k miles with no hiccups, no cooling issues and no knocks.

Nearly 18 thousand miles with my 18 Civic SI, no issues, aside from some weak AC. Looks like I'll need some recharge of the AC unit. Easy enough. No carbon build-up, always take long drives enough to warm up the engine, wait a little bit to cool off the turbo after driving, always doing the required maintenance. Car is good.

This Civic generation is known to have failing AC condensers. Luckily, there's a Honda service bulletin for it so definitely bring it up when you take it to the dealer. Shouldn't have to pay a cent. I've had to replace the condenser on my 17 si 3 times already.

I think it really depends on your situation. If you normally drive 20-50 miles every time, you could likely stick with the guess-o-meter on the dash, but if your drives are very short then you risk dealing with fuel dilution and I would recommend 3-6k between changes.

Since the fuel never hits the intake valves I don’t think any additive would help. The traditional mod that attempts to reduce carbon build up is a catch can. what’s a safe amount of boost pressure on the Si? Because as of right now, I have a 2018 Si coupe and the mods that I have is a Ktuner pushing 21.5 psi with 22 psi at peak, MAPerformance Catted DP, Injen short ram intake, and MAPerformance exhaust. I was told pushing 22 psi is a bit too much on the stock turbo but I’ve also heard that 22 psi on the stock turbo isn’t that much but I don’t know which is the truth and what to believe so what’s a safe and reliable psi range to run? Someone help please

@maperformance 2 жыл бұрын
21-22 psi is about as much as you would want to push the stock turbo. We have seen up to 25-27 psi, but the life of the turbo is not long!

Has anyone experienced having issues with the shim plate on the drivers side warping and hitting against the rotor? Makes the most annoying screeching noise when making a left turn 😡 had my boy who's a Honda mechanic fix it for me like 5 times already. Ended up buying new ones and the issue came right back lol.

The 1.5l sucks why I bought a k20c2 with 6 speed you can swap the k20c1 head and hood to go but the 1.5 you have to swap all internals to make it reliable with power
@ROBMACDUI
@ROBMACDUI 2 жыл бұрын
Depends on what you are shooting for. Under 300hp and you’ll have no major issues minus swapping head bolts which can be done without removing the head. The K20 would require quite a bit more money to hit 250-280 than the 10th gen. Of course, the k20 would be able to get to higher numbers without replacing the bottom end but at that point I would think simply buying a more powerful factory vehicle makes a bit more financial sense.

@@ROBMACDUI you are talking about the k20A im talking about k20c bro before you cooment you should read the k20c2 can handle 500hp np also the k20a can also sound like you never worked on a honda before the l15 cant handle 300+ because the crank brakes

@@beargang8853 Geez man relax. I’m not questioning the ability to hold more power but for those that don’t feel like spending thousands on mods you can add 80hp and over 100lb ft of torque reliably with nothing more than a $500 tune. For most people that’s more than enough and makes the most sense given you can have a pretty potent sport compact on the cheap without destroying its resale value by throwing a bunch of aftermarket parts on it and ruining its daily driving comfort. If aiming for big hp numbers then Why even bother with a fwd car. You’ll never be able to put down much more than that without upsetting the chassis and ruining its handling which is the strong point of these cars.

So in other words Buy a Normal Civic Sedan like my wife did a 2020 Sport Sedan with the K20C2 engine and 6 speed manual No carbon or Fuel dilution with this Car, Because it doesn't have GDI or a Turbo charger it simply doesn't NEED it if you Want a dependable car for getting to work 🤓.
