Cameron Niemela alimuinuim if it’s clean it looks mint but with steel frame I can powdercoat it to have more Color I wouldn’t powdercoat a aluminium frame tho cause clean and polished alimuim like this looks wayyy better I prefer aluminium

Aluminum but I cant NOT like steel frames.. Great job Cameron keep it up!!!!
@backyardsemtex6 жыл бұрын
Aluminium is great because its low weight and durability. Steel frame from old bikes are great if you want to modify the frame at all. By modifying I mean welding mostly and thats exactly what I done to my KLX frame.
@jurajkovac17706 жыл бұрын
Aluminum frame looks great, does not corrose and its much lighter than steel so aluminum frame is definitely winner. My aprilia tuareg is one of vintage bikes which have steel frame and its not bad at all. Paint looks good afterall, but i can find some spots which needs to fix rust, but it is not terrible.

I like both on the Honda’s I think it looks nice and on smaller bikes steel or aluminum

Did a similar process to a cr250 recently. We continued sanding with 600 grit, 1000, and finished with 1500. We hit it with a wool buffing pad and a compound and it literally looks like chrome. Works good if that’s what you’re into 👍🏻

Hey I absolutely love your videos dude. I picked up a 2002 cr250 in February and I’m in the process of tearing it down and rebuilding it And watching your videos helps me a ton. I Can’t wait to see the bike finished!!

Amazing work, Cameron. If you’re OCD like me, there’s 2 more processes to try... 0000 steel wool pads and then metal paste polish. It will look like chrome. Touch ups are easy, too. Then it’s time to get some mud on it all!
@CameronNiemela6 жыл бұрын
Thanks. Definitely not after a chrome finish though.

If you keep sanding with smoother and smoother (360,400,600,800,1000,1500) paper until 2000 you could polish it to a chrome shine !

You are sanding off the clear anodizing that it is coated with from the factory. Now the aluminum will oxidize quick.

Do you use anything tot protect all that metal from corrosion?
@codenamenel6 жыл бұрын
Its Aluminium, It oxidises instantly as soon as he scuffs it, the resulting Aluminium oxide layer is very hard and doesnt corrode for years
@__justin__6 жыл бұрын
I saw terrible corrosion when Al turns into white powder. Under wet conditions. Inside of Al rims for example.
@codenamenel6 жыл бұрын
justin that's galvanic corrosion, because your nipples and rim are different metals they make a chemical reaction, the white powder is the end product of the reaction
@__justin__6 жыл бұрын
Thanks! That tell us it has to be protected with some sort of coat or grease?
@codenamenel6 жыл бұрын
justin other than hard anodising like aftermarket rims it would be difficult. Because it's such a harsh environment, think of all the different forces acting on a spinning MX wheel at once, trying to get something that wouldn't degrade, crack, spin off, affect rubber inner tubes etc would be a nightmare. They'll still last year's as they are, Easier just to check them often and replace if ever required
@danielroberts94926 жыл бұрын
Also I think it would be a lot quicker than sanding the frame
