It's times like this I miss my 1967 2-stroke outboard! ☺.... I will watch this video at least a dozen time so I can learn every word you said; It is amazing how you can fit a hundred 'pounds of information' into a 5 pound sack!.... And, how in the world did your hat stay on your head at the end of the video... it had to be glued to your head!

I have a 2006 4 stroke Yamaha with the most important sensors. All the additional bells are whistles are just trouble! Sometimes it’s just better to have an older model which means less things can go wrong and that means less to worry about 😄 Planning to hold on to my Yamaha as long as I can!!

I im soooo happy with my 2 stroke smokers, hope they dont outlaw them ever. Got 2 Yamaha 250hp, best motors I ever have, reliable, always ready to fire, fast, takes nothing to keep them up, easy to work on and cheap. I have two extra power heads that I keep already rebuilt just in case I need to swap. I have friends that have 4 stroke and all I see is problems, high bills and headached. This engines will outlive me so im good to go. 👌👌👌👌👌👌👌

How about all that smoke? Don't you get tired of smelling the fumes? When I am stuck behind a 2 stroke while getting out of the marina and where we all need to go idle speed, it's just unbearable!!! @@2fast4you25 Good point! In my younger days, my dad had a 2 stroke Mercury, that engine was quite temperamental, not as reliable as my Yamaha. I can only speak for Yamahas because I own one. I NEVER had any issues with my 4 stroke Yamaha (knock on wood) but I have been using non-ethanol fuel since day 1 and always get is serviced on time and always flush the engine after each use and change my fuel/water separator religiously every six months and spray the entire engine with Yamalube every six months as well. Those people who are having issues with their 4 stroke are most likely not doing the basic maintenance. I also love how quiet and fuel efficient the engine is!

Hi Technicians, love your channel, need your help. I have Mercury EFI 150 (2018). Cold start in the morning, the engine starts right away. After driving for some time and after the engine heats up - when I turn off the engine and try to start it again, it fails to start (It shuts down immediately). I can still start it by adding more neutral-throttle (gas). I've tried changing MAP, IAC and just changed FSM. Any suggestions? TPS? CPS? I believe it is something that it is something sensitive to temperature because when it's cold, no problems starting. Thanks Mario

Thank you for the support! Testing the sensors would best be done through the test procedures in the manual ;) so getting the manual for whatever engine you have, would be a great idea! Having the digital gauges for whatever your engine is, will also show you a ton of information about what the sensors are reading and allow you to see the readings as well!

looking for some help for my 2019 merc 115 four stroke. I am getting a fuel in water alarm on my smart craft gauge; however, my fuel water separator has no sensor. It’s a quick silver filter in my bilge. When I empty out water separator, there is no fuel in the canister. Any suggestions?

At 5:30 you mentioned why the gears grind. Could you explain that further please. Thank you
@BornAgainBoating
@BornAgainBoating 4 жыл бұрын
It's in the shifting of the lower unit. There is a gear called a clutch dog that engages the gears when you go into either forward or reverse. Those gears are spinning as fast as the engine is spinning if not a little bit faster because of the size of the gears. So when you shift, if you shift slowly, those gears are not getting fully engaged and will grind. When you are at a slow RPM and shift quickly to the detent position, it "pops" those gears together and takes away that grinding, prolonging the life of the lower unit. These videos might help some: kzbin.info/www/bejne/g6mTfXh3jNh4lc0 kzbin.info/www/bejne/epa9gK2wo9SafNk&t

Hi guys and thanks for a great YT Chanel with loads of tips n trix around my boat! I got a question about the cable grommit ploping out on my Mercury EFI 100. It seems to be a well known problem and I cant really find a good fix for it. Could that be covered in a video perhaps? IF you can find or come up to a fix that isn't to invasive on the engine plastics? Thanks again for a great Chanel and greetings from Stockholm Sweden.
@BornAgainBoating
@BornAgainBoating 4 жыл бұрын
You might have to try and make the rigging tube or wrap a little longer, some way to take the stress off of the grommet, then it should stay in place, if not, maybe that grommet is worn out and you could get a new one. Not really much else to be done about it unfortunately :(
@TheLusus
@TheLusus 4 жыл бұрын
@@BornAgainBoating The rigging tube? The plastic flexibel hose leading the cables from the hull to the engine? The thing is that the grommet is brand new, and my friends Mercury has the same issue. As soon as you tilt the engine up when in dock the grommit plops out. Also my threaded brass insert on the front broke lose due yo me overtightening the bolt holding that part of the engine colw(?) holding the grommit in place. I used epoxy to re-seat it and that on holds now but the grommit keep ploping out. Look into it, if you cold figure out a fix and make a video about it that video would spread among Merc-users i asume.

I enjoyed the video and even though I do not currently own a boat, I still have an interest in owning one when my kids get older. I grew with 2 strokes and still have my Grandfather's 1971 Mercury Model 110 (9.8 hp). My dad had a jon boat that he upgraded from my Grandfather's outboard to a 25 hp and then later bought a Ranger. Even though this was pre-DFI outboards and the Merc 115 on the Ranger was carbureted, I thought the oil injection was pretty cool since we no longer had to mix the oil with the gas. How many of these sensors were on the carbureted outboards in the pre-EFI and pre-DFI era? I know the 115 had the spedo, water cooling pressure, and an oil sensor (it went bad while running back across the lake once), but some of these in the video are of course for fuel injection and a 2 stroke doesn't have a cam shaft.
@BornAgainBoating
@BornAgainBoating 4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, most of the two stroke just have the temp sensors, crank sensor, some have oil sensor floats, and the pitot and water pressure sensors :) Two-strokes were very simple, they just loved to drink gas!

What happens if you restrict the fuel to a Verado engine at high rpm? For instance because of a clogged fuel filter etc. Does it have a fuel pressure sensor? Will it run lean or cut out? Any risk of engine damage or will the ecu protect it?
