That's a very good lesson Tyler and I enjoy learning with you. I hope watching this video over and over will make me a better singer as well as a better ukulele player.

The power of melody! Do you have a keyboard? Once you learn to sing one note you can start to hear harmonies. I can sing along with the radio perfectly... still can't sing with out the melody though.. we will get there!

@@TenThumbsProductions Yes I have a keyboard.

I was thinking this too!!! Not enough ukulele players do melody. I’m glad I’m not the only one who has realized this haha.

Very important, our goal at Tenthumbs isn't to make ukulele players, it is to make musicians who play ukulele. Melody is the backbone of all of these things.

You have helped me more than anyone to understand the ukulele. Thank you.

Happy to hear that you could connect with what we are doing here. The ultimate goal is to make musicians that play the ukulele, so the content we create is a little more challenging and not for everyone, but that is great to hear that it has resonated with you. Thank you for your comment and thank you even more for taking the time to learn an instrument, it really does make the word a better place!

Thank you, Tyler! I'm currently trying to get more into chord melody and fingerstyle playing, so this is perfect timing.

Yes! Great to hear. A strong understanding of melody in general will improve your chord melody a lot. If I have time I try and learn to play the melody alone before I add the chords so I know where the emotion is and where the cool parts are, that way I can use the chords to emphasis those parts of the melody as opposed to cover them up with to much harmony.

Having no musical experience before Ukulele I was with you until about 7:00 then I had no idea what your talking about. May as well switched to Chinese or Italian.

Thanks for this piece of info Tyler. very cool. Also I was told to practice singing thru a straw for like 5 or 10 minutes and that will improve your singing too. It helps your vocal chords

Great lesson, a little advanced for me but what i like about you tutorial is that you keep the original key of the song and not change it to make it easier. Keep the good work
@TenThumbsProductions3 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much! That is a point of emphasis, I want you to be able to play along with the track. It might mean a harder version, it might mean less views, but it means you the learner can jam with the recording, which is very important to me. Thanks for noticing!

I know right! I teach kids how to play the ukulele and some don't want to sing and I personally don't like to sing either because I don't have a strong singing voice. So my focus has been teaching them how to play the melody of the song.
@TenThumbsProductions3 жыл бұрын
Great, get them young. It is so rewarding and so much fun to play the melody with someone else strumming. I think I am going to make some easy melody play-alongs to encourage more people to rock this style.

I promise this will, I promise it will. That and don't be so hard on yourself. People criticize my singing like the only thing that is acceptable is perfect, and that isn't true. It is okay to be less than perfect and still have fun singing, just let it fly and have fun! And saying all that, this will improve your singing, I promise! That and knowing your vocal range, and you will improve, you got this!

My mind is blown! Amazing to watch you learn how to sing this piece. Do you have any tips about the best sources for sheet music?
@TenThumbsProductions3 жыл бұрын
The best place to buy it is musicnotes.com but another trick I do is go on amazon and search for something like "Al Green Sheet Music" and your favorite artist will have a book and you can usually get them second hand for around 5 bucks, sometimes just 2 or 3 dollars. Another thing you can do is search for Jazz Fake Book PDF and you can get a lot of standards for free to start practicing with. good luck!
