If you want REAL and PROPERLY PASSIVE nightvision, the CMOS sensor on ANY nightvision camera MUST HAVE 25 micron, 50 micron or even 100 microns per photosite at 1080p resolution in order to see under pitch black conditions WITHOUT needing the use of any infrared LED illuminator which gives away your position to ANYONE that has proper nightvision gear or ANY ANIMAL that has infrared sensitive eyesight! The Infrared (i.e. IR) LED illuminator is like a GIANT flashlight that shines SUPERBRIGHT to anybody who has decent passive avalanche-diode-style AVN-14 style goggles or monoculars (i.e. Gen-1/2/3+ NVG)! I bought these and was sold from this video. I agree with everything said here. My review after having them for 6 months. I bought these for hunting purpose and realized quickly that they are not great for that. They are heavy to carry and kinda bulky. It takes too much time to adjust for hunting purposes IMO. For daytime use these are much easier to use ,,even for hunting. But at night ,it just does not work for me. Over all,,not for hunting. That is really the only down side I found for these. Although I did add a second IR light ,,clip on,,that helps greatly for night vision. Now,,if at home on a tripod and no time limits(like hunting) these are awesome. No hurry to adjust and they are just amazing. the 40x zoom is clear as a bell. During daylight they work the best once again. The clarity is something you must see to believe and items 1/2 mile away have great detail. The night vision is also good but is best 100 yrds or closer. The extra IR light is also a great help and worth buying if you have these. At 50 yrds (or more?) you could read a book in complete darkness. If on a tripod,,which I suggest for all use. Anything over 100 yrds ,in darkness,,can still be seen (and not bad) but the quality is lower. I find the IR light from the binocs is too bright until you get 200 yrds or more. The night vision takes allot of time to adjust for best clarity, Adjustments are: zoom/focus/IR light pattern. They are very touchy. If you have these on a tripod and have patience to adjust them they are awesome.

Thanks for extra info. I got the cheaper stealthcam monocular. Definitely didn't love. The screen is too small for my eye.
@jasonbrown4676 ай бұрын
i have one of these, i like it for most of the reasons you state. i have a few issues, one the IR bream is really designed only if you are zoomed in maybe 15x and higher, otherwise it puts a bright white spot in the middle of the picture, and the adjustment for the IR is very lacking. it basicaly goes from a tight beam to an even tighter beam also, you cant turn off the IR while in night vision mode. some times there is enough IR light in the atmostphere that you dont need the beam but its stuck on. there is a work around though, for some reason you can put a timer on the IR so it will turn off but you stay in night vision mode. having to adjust the focus while playing with the zoom is strange but i am learning to cope. using AA batteries is a fail imo, but you can use only four at a time if you want, you dont have to use eight the menue is easy, the features are easy, the optics look good, the screen looks good, you can run it off a external battery bank via the usb c, there is a mini hdmi port, it looks shockingly good both zoomed in and not and using IR or not there is no stabilization, so a tripod is a must this is not a binocular imo, but its important to keep in mind that this thing will suck at looking at things up close at night. get something else if you want to watch the path you are walking on. treat these as you would binoculars and by that i mean use them to look at things far away. that 20x zoom is awesome, then add another 4x digital and you can really see out there day or night i have used it to watch the nigh sky and it picks up on stars your eyes will miss, in fact i see satellites orbiting the earth almost every time i go out with it and watch the night sky

What was the price I must have missed it
@mnpd3 Жыл бұрын
Well worth the price for what it does. There's no substitute however for a Gen III passive scope if you want to spend a few thousand dollars. The Gen III is also completely passive and can't be spotted. The Gen III sees that IR beam as brightly as a ray of sunshine, meaning "active" IR scopes are not suitable for hidden surveillance.
@PaulMcDonagh-rv6vc Жыл бұрын
You wont get a decent gen 3 for $2,000. That budget needs to increase. For $2900 you could have a really nice high FOM elbit XLSH white phos in a pvs-14. That when gen 3 gets really good.

Monoculars?
@georgehooper6702 жыл бұрын
Eric is right and I've looked at a lot of these always having some limitation. Color quality in daytime varies. NV sharpness at night within a limited range then zoom 3X a little and lose it. Low quality video or snapshot capuure some as low as 480p. Maybe purchase an infared flashlight at 850mn to help. The Owler 1 resolved this by first going with quality optics with a 30mm lens with 20X optical zoom (anyone else to doing this?) so not to be too heavy set to a 1.6 F-srop to gather light. The trade off with gathering light is with depth of field so zooming around a user has to focus again. Then it is sharp without any distorion. This was designed with software to gather light so if you are looking around in your neighborhood for an opossum, wolf or bad guys with a street light or other house lights then you won't even have to turn on the night vision clearly seeing everything for 500 meters. So I bought it directly form store.wildguarder.com/ and it took about 14 days to deliver it to my front porch in Indiana. Their China tracking has a lot to be desired with no locations versus FedEX and UPS but it got here. It is an amazing Night Vision worth $339.99 USA. But it is technnlogy. Wnen something better comes out maybe next year use it for your need or sell it cheap on Ebay. Who knows maybe Eric tell us if someone can beat this awesome design. Regards

Funny to see people reviewing technology that was invented in 1939. Thats 84 years ago people. Sony made a video camera back in 1998 which had a “night vision” (infrared) mode. It even was capable of seeing threw clothes. I ran around with digital NV when i was 14 years old. Im 36 now! Hell in 2010 Jakks Pacific released SPYNET Night Vision Infrared Goggles for children that do this same thing. You can get a pair for like 30 buck online. All of a sudden this tech keeps getting rewrapped and called new then priced for hundreds? I dont get it. Morons reviewing it obviously have no idea what they are even talking about... Sorry
