Kuala Terengganu is the city that features the most traditional Malay architecture and designs. From the office buildings, bridge, markets, hotels, resorts, shops, museums, airport to even its city bus (known as "Bas Kite") all inspired from traditional Malay style.

Wow I think you're the first "Mat Salleh" who I see going totally off trek from the usual attractions with no guide whatsoever. I mean taking a hike through random villages? That's a very rare sight here and if I bump into you I'd probably ask if you're lost hahaha. On a more serious note more people should do what you do. The best of Malaysia can be experienced in the rural and otherwise "off-radar" parts. Glade to see you enjoy my hometown. This is the place if you just wanna sit back and chill.

@nusabudiman Жыл бұрын
You are right. Some old Malay house made from wood are built without using any nails. They use a technique called "tanggam and pasak" to tightly secure each wood together. And don't be surprised, because it's built without using any nails, it's also can be dismantled easily and the same wood then can be moved to a new place and built again using the same technique! In my state Perak, some of "tanggam and pasak" technique i.e. building house without using any nails can be seen in "rumah kutai Perak" or Perak's kutai house!

Hello, this is Roy. As I told you, I spent many winters in Malaysia. I am so happy to hear you talking Malay. It's a great language, and your vocabulary has really expanded recently! Watch out for the word 'air' for water: it is commonly pronounced like the English word 'eye' ( in other words 'ai' and the r is generally silent). All the best to both of you.

@asuat.elhajjar Жыл бұрын
When you travel, you have to forget politics. I remember the first time I (Klang Valley girl) went to Kelantan 25 years ago, I was shocked that people are nothing like their government. 😅 Went to a wedding and it was all men one side, women one side ... Then when most of the guests had left (after midnight), the family brought out the traditional musical instruments and everybody men and women began to dance. 😅

terengganu means land of hills. terenggani yur. tamil and sanskrit. in malaysian history, it is with pahang its larger neighbour, culturally and historically linked. both royals of terengganu and pahang who founded the states are family, the first rulers of terengganu and pahang were twin brothers. terengganu and pahang were not major kingdoms with great pasts, they were vassals of johor, but they have lots of handicrafts masters.
