Season 10 felt pretty…meh as far as truly iconic lip syncs go (save the already mentioned Pound the Alarm as good and Nasty as bad). Season 11: I’d argue that Brooke vs Yvie was the first “go all out with stunts for the whole song” lip sync that worked. Nina vs Silky for being, well…meh. *insert A’keria quote about Nina dancing like one of those xmas doll things* Yvie’s headpiece in the final lipsync, the effect it had definitely helped her take the win, it was SO cool. The first “using your outfit to your advantage” in that way was probably Coco vs Alyssa though. Season 12: Crystal’s bird thing…as a “what not to do”. Heidi using her balloon hair, which the judges called her out on, as a prop that helped her win - maybe not truly iconic, but I love seeing them take a heavily critiqued part of their outfit and using it to their advantage. Season 13: Not really a great lip sync season… Season 14: probably Camden’s fall-reveal. AS3-8: Having a tough time thinking here. Yvie’s reveals against India. Kylie somersaulting out of her fall. Laganja’s entire lipsync from her reveal as the assassin to the end of the performance. AS5 choosing really bad song-assassin matchups (particularly Fancy). Boom Clap for being the worst Charli XCX song they could’ve picked. Jessica Wild whipping out her coconuts (and apparently doing some stuff we didn’t get to see because tv ratings). Bringing Pangina back to beat Jimbo, just because it brought that whole mess full circle in my opinion. Silky vs Silky. Some of these aren’t truly iconic, but they are the lipsyncs I think of for each season. I need to watch 15 again to get a better idea there.

You mentioned Dida Ritz's performance against The Princess, which is one of my all time fave performances, but you didn't bring up an aspect that I've always felt was the cherry on top of the whole thing, which was the fact that Natalie Cole was the guest judge for that performance. If you ever decide to do something like this again, I'd love it if you discussed the lipsyncs that were done with the og performer watching. i think tatianna vs alyssa and brooke vs yvie kinda re-wrote the fan perception on double shantys having to be good performance first and foremost cause honestly every time there is a double save, it’s just because of storyline rather than performance. an example of this is dela vs darienne the first time around and also kandy vs symone where there was pretty clearly a winner for the lipsync.

I think the season 2 Morgan vs Sonique is also really important for drag race because, at the time at least, it set the precedent for what qualities the judges prioritize in the judging process. As I remember, in addition to performances that matched the mood of the song well, lipsyncs that were tight/precise were consistently picked over stunt heavy performances. Morgan vs Sonique was the first time I remember that happening, but Coco vs Alyssa also comes to mind. Like, I'm pretty sure one of the reasons Coco won was that bit where she just pointed at her mouth to show how incredibly precise her lipsync was.

Adding to your comment about Monet, she is my FAVOURITE lip sync performer from Drag Race. She can just do pretty much any song that production throws at her and look stunning doing it. Her performance to Supernova in AS7 is honestly so damn sexy and just so good. She's just such a strong and versatile performer, I can't think of anyone who can just do any genre like her. Her weakest is probably Into You from AS4 but I feel like she kind of threw.that lip sync, either so she didn't have to eliminate anyone or because production told her to let Valentina have the spotlight for story purposes.

The "Redemption" Lip Synch is something specific to All Stars. Valentina winning an Ariana Grande Lip Synch while wearing her Selena fantasy. Back when season 7 aired a lot of people were torn about the lipsync on the conjoined queens episode. One side of the argument was that if you mess up together, you lipsync together and at the time we'd not had an all stars season where the lipsyncing queens changed their clothes so it wasn't something that was even on the table. A good few people thought it was unfair though because people had seen Jaidynn KILL two lipsyncs and knew how hindered she was by being conjoined to Tempest in a way that they couldn't get out of.

I was sure Shannel's headpiece drop was deliberate before she actually confessed that in the season 1 reunion: the fact she dipped her head, did a little bounce to let it fall off and perfectly catch it at such a climactic moment of the song got my Nancy Drew senses going big time, but I still appreciated the moment even more because of the intentionality =D P.S.
