This is surprising to people? Fun fact, Cleopatra is actually Greek, her great great great Grandfather was Ptolemy. Ptolemy was a general of Alexander. So basically the whole Mediterranean is descended from Alexander’s inner circle, which was made possible only by his education from Aristotle. Talk about a legacy of a philosopher!

You omitted one great philosopher, Baruch Spinoza, who in fact influenced many of those philosophers that you mentioned and was a great revolutionary. He influenced many of the ideas of the French Revolution, and even all the enlightenment philosophers.

Laozi should definitely be here, wrote the Book of Tao, the first organized form of Taoism in writing, now followed by hundreds of millions of people today. Sun Tzu was also a philosopher, groundbreaking military philosophy written in a time of brutes

The problem with the Tao Te Ching, imo, would be simplifying it for such a concise entry. It is a lot of ambiguous spiritualism that borders on self-effacing disavowals and poetical occlusions. It is a window that obscures its own insight, or so I would say if I was Lao Tzu.

Dude. You are missing some of the most important philosophers - Francis Bacon, John Stuart Mills, Karl Poppers - that helped establish science and scientific thinking. Without them we are stuck on relying on deductive reasoning and endless, untestable theoretical exercises.

@@NicolasSchaII to westerners only. More than a 500 million people are following the nastika philosophy of Siddhartha Gautama, Nagarjuna ,Chandrakirti in the East Asia alone. I havent even included astika philosophers like Shankaracharya, Vatsyayana, Kassapa etc. Buddhist philosophies have shaped many greek schools like Pyrrhonism etc, not to mention the Upanishadic, Charvaka, Jina schools of philosopjhy which were already active pre buddhism in India.
