Update if y'all missed it: They tracked and corrected all the bugged items. Those that were caught doing it repeatedly, maliciously, and on purpose... are banned. Those that did it either accidentally or without realizing simply had the items fixed.

Just got fixed. "Fixed a bug which allowed the Bestiary craft using The Black Morrigan Recipe to not respect item socket rules. We're investigating the items that have been created through this method and are working on fixing them. Any gems socketed in these items are at risk for being destroyed when these items are fixed."

I used black morrigan a couple of times this league, it didn't do that though (tbf I did it with 6s items only) but I wonder if it was a somewhat specific thing you had to do, was it deliberate exploit I mean. If it was, then people doing it (and trying to profit from it) should be banmed imo.

One of the worst leagues I can think of in terms of exploit fast/often. The divide between the have and have nots has really destroyed player retention in trade league and now mid league is so poor. I'm not saying that I would be up there - but there is now no one to even sell upgrades to outside of map juice/super high end items. This latest bug makes certain items completely broken - not something that should be left in. I would hope making an example of people would at least slow down any behavior for future leagues or poe2 - the skill element has left the convo and its all about rushing the next degenerate thing

Imagine getting a Crest of Desire from heist, giving it 4 sockets rofl. +8 levels to the gems and 50% qual and double dmg. Hopefully this bug gets fixed fairly quickly.

People complain about stuff like this but its always amazing whenr stuff like this happens, I remember buying 0.8 patch Valkyries in D2 and Wizzie Gloves. Super not intended but always really interesting when bugs happen and those items become incredible legacies to be talked about years later.

I think this league is highlighting the fact that they need to stop work on PoE 2 and fix PoE 1 before they lose all of their good will. They also need to enforce tos on this one. League ban for exploiters not a perma.

these situations are cool, these situations feel unique, the items shouldnt be reverted. it changes NOTHING that the items are in the game. its FUN. its not a leaguestart scenario. theres like 10% playerbase playing now. leave those items alone and let people have fun with buggy stuff sometimes. in standard it also changes nothing, an influx of new powerful buggy limited quantity items that can produce some absolutely wacky builds. we are playing poe. we love being overpowered. we love crazy shit happening with our builds. people bitching about bugged items are literally the ones who snitched on other children at school as soon as they saw anything.

the only normal option here: leave exploit till league ends and then patch it so next league they won't be able to do such things. 1st option can lead into online drop down to near 1k people and next league will be scuffed 2nd option also can lead into online drop but it's more realistic

The sheer stupid amount of currency made by people this league definitely feels like it hurt players on the lower end. Things have been so broken it feels hard to make progress. On one hand I always find bugs like this interesting but on the other, the FOMO is real, and I've missed the train.

Everyone who wasn't making bank on the exploits and initial race to mirror level was making bank funding the people using anarchy allflames and div scarabs etc. I have a char with 2 mirror items on it and I was playing solo. Plus another 70div in stuff from just running T16s with 3 scarabs. It's not like just because the top 1% were farming 20 mirrors a days that the bottom 1% weren't getting anything. They got cheaper gear of higher quality than any league before. At a certain point, you don't need currency anymore.

To me the obvious option is to not ban people for doing this, but to delete the extra links. Items that cannot have their sockets this way should be updated with a server maintenance, as well as patching the exploit. There's no need to ban anyone, nor leave the items in game. Reverting the items to a legitimate state is enough punishment, as someone will have wasted their time and resources to produce the results on their items. This also means that there is no FOMO about it, because you ensure that anyone who does do this before the maintenance will just be burning resources for nothing. The only time an exploiter should ever be banned is if they are exploiting a bug that kills players unfairly, deletes their items, crashes servers, etc. Things that cannot easily be reverted.

@@technoweasel8937 The only people that would think that's how these items are supposed to be, are genuinely super new players who wouldn't have the currency for them anyway. There's no way anyone with any legitimate experience is buying this not knowing it's a bug. So if someone does burn currency on something, that's genuinely on them because they'd know there was a very real chance of a hotfix. I know this comes off as hard victim blaming, but if you have 180div to your account and you go looking for a 6 link squire for your build, you explicitly know that you're looking for a bugged item. And you know that the devs know it's a bugged item. If they revert it and you go complaining that you wasted 180divs, you really just wanted to complain. But regardless of however GGG deals with this bug, I agree with the OP that no one should get banned for this. They aren't hacking or compromising the game. It's literal in game mechanics. Unintended ones, but in game tools nonetheless. Edit: Also to be clear, I have not engaged with this bug. I could, but alas, GGG is incredibly fickle with these things and I'm not gonna risk a ban until they take w/e action they take with the situation.

wont exist, the gear can only have as many sockets as the amount of space the item takes up. Cospris takes up three spaces in your inventory so it can only have 3 sockets.

I honestly don't get how this is upsetting for anyone. Headhunters are 10 div and regular people can mess around with powerful items. This is the first league where I feel like just playing normal maps is making me tons of cash. The sanctity of the economy does nothing for me, but being able to play with power is.

Like I said in the video, GGG had been made aware of the issue before I made this, about 11 hours before I put this out. Other streamers had been talking about it and even showing how to do it, hours before I put this out.

I actually agree. I did a vid a couple leagues back on the Abyss socket bug and just before releasing it, I decided to wait for the patch removing it before releasing it. Showing people how to perform an exploit just creates more stress and drama for GGG and is actually the reason this one was so prolific compared to previous item exploits. Fortunately they had been made aware about this particular bug almost 12 hours before I put this out, and with everyone talking about it and other streamers performing it on streams and in videos, it felt fair to do this video myself

ALSO this is in standard, even if the method was tied directly to the current league you can migrate characters to standard to smuggle these items to standard early, meaning they exist in standard and they have to check EVERY item in EVERY existing league. they will probably make them reset back to their correct socket number upon modification, is my guess.

The people who did this, knew exactly what they did. Noone goes and Morrigans a Squire/Kaoms/any rare Quiver/etc. just for the laughs. Ban them for the rest of the League. Void their Items and Characters. League is dead for quite a while. It went south way faster than Kalandra did, which says a lot. Steam Numbers are the most accessible for the purpose of comparison. Kalandra went from ~150k to ~60k peak active players within a Month. Necropolis outdid that by going from ~190k to ~50k active peak players within a Month. The League is badly done. The focus is in all the wrong places and i'm ranting off topic because i'm so infuriated on seeing how a game i love and spend thousands of hours on is being neglected by their creators because they want to push their efforts on their D4 knock off.

Trying to be a good boi every single time and respect the rules and I see these items still exist and parties not being banned. Why should I not exploit then? Seems like there's absolutely no reason not to if they don't have a stance on it at all, just sick of their whimsical choices in how they approach things like this or, just like the crucible totem build that was doing 2 billion dps for 30-90 divines. What? Why wasn't that completely nerfed instantly, it should have been. You just straight up have no clue how they're going to react or deal with a situation. I've s een level 86 Multstrikes in standard that survived any ban waves/item deletion. Rare flasks, people who would make an afk build and enter a map with beyond and find a pack that infinitely spawned monsters & leave their computer on to wake up to bajillion exalts/shavs etc. Too many things to name, a lot of things this league were handled so poorly as well it's just so incredibly disappointing. Follow that up with poor balance, clearly dominant strategies, Tencent complete ownership of GGG now (no shareholders from the original company are left). It just doesn't stop being a disappointment. Performance that's completely random from league to league, streamer favouritism. Darkshrine backin the day also completely broken, recombinators... Yeah anyway If I see them in the next week still around, completely done.

i will say the fire res item is very very very old , i believe from within the first year or two of the game , its not quite the same thing as there is only one of it that said , i did not do the exploit but i made 2 mirrors in standard and over 100 divines selling the materials to people in league , always sell shovels during a gold rush

delete all the items is the only way to go, and then ban anyone who sold any. some people suggest to revert items to legal amount of sockets but in game where its economy so closely tied to the game experience any exploit needs to be destroyed and punished so people in the future are afraid to sell broken items. if you made something stupid by accident it will get deleted but if you put it on the market fuck you get banned.

That's one possible explanation, another possibility is they went overboard on ambitious changes which had loads of unintended consequences. Sure, you could argue that part of management's job is to reign that in but I personally prefer a design team makes big changes (that occasionally blow up in their face) to one that always plays it safe.

I expect extra links to be deleted. This happened before in Ritual with 7 explicit items where they randomly annulled an explicit. I did not get banned.

A while ago I had a Stygian vise with an abyss jewel socket and a regular white socket. Didn't get banned but the item vanished one day

@@radstartrek so? really, so what? how do you expect people to know something is an "exploit" or "bug abuse" when its ggg who put the damn thing in the game? stop blaming the victim already. And before you try to argue the point, and well you really can't, ggg has a proven track record of doing stuff like this, yet NONE, literally none of the other "bugged" items resulted in ANYONE being banned. Ever. Abyssal sockets on regular items with no mod space taken up, 20,000 fire resistance chest armour, the list goes on and on, yet NONE of those people were banned for crafting the items that ggg didn't even bother to playtest. Get out of here with blaming the victim already. And, while you're at it, go look at league retention, and tell me again how ggg should ban its own damn customer base when a fair chunk of them aren't even interacting with this massively bugged league. Sure, lets have ggg shoot themself in the foot. Go ahead, I dare them and you.

Got people asking for bans for this who have no idea how you would even go about that. They would have to have a system to track if you did the exploit in the first place. There should be an obvious problem in the logic here. Gonna take a wild guess and say they aren't tracking every crafting method in the entire game and especially not the one that is broken. In theory it shouldn't actually be that difficult to change the sockets on the items back to their maximum and to fix the craft. Fix the exploit, do that, simple as. Some items like Kaoms probably need their own individual cases but I don't actually think there are many items like that in the game. The only people that can be banned by this are people who are publicly showing the exploit in action on their accounts. It would be a very very VERY stupid move to ban people just because they have these items. That will do nothing but make everyone angry. It would lead to a whole lot of "Well why wasn't X banned for Y then?"

It is up there but not of all time. The bug that was corrupting(as in actual data corruption not Vaal orb) items so you can end up with 2H mods on 1H items was crazier. This is just a preview of PoE2's gem system. On the other hand that other bug required a rollback.

Surely with the early league fall off they let it ride patch for next league? IDK why they would go after all the people playing with the bug that makes no sense. I get why they would but i mean this league sucked.. soo let it ride? maybe roll items back if they are capable?

I hate this idea of exploit early and exploit often from the community, its literal abuse and you're sad you couldnt also cheat the game. PoE is literally a single player game there is no "loss" in not exploiting these

Well is very easy if they don't ban or revert the items as intend but block others from making them now giving exploiters a huge advantage again i think il be done with GGG for good
