I was born in Karachi, Pakistan. A lot of the chai walas (roadside tea salesmen) came from these villages and regions of Pakistan, and they would often have various stones next to their stalls. The reason why they catch the stone with one hand is because of the rule of the lift. While Lifting the stone no part of the body should be in contact with the stone except the palm. Also while lifting they are not supposed to use their thumbs. The 1 arm Stone Snatch was from the Southern Part of India and these lifts are common in the surroundings I live. Just a quick note, there are extra points for reps while stone is properly lifted if you have done a proper lift and then sit down in that position to get back up again. Each time you do, you get extra points. That is why some people who are confident enough do it, as it requires more effort. If you see the numbering like this 3:30 or 3/30 this is what it means 3 x 40kg + 30 kg = 150 kg 15:56 says "5 mun" (mun pronounced the same way as mum) 1 mun = 40 kg which means 200kg stone Edit: I saw someone say its 38 kg but you may also google 1 mun weight in kg, it will tell you 40kg

just goes to show there are truly unlimited paths towards fitness, and the culture you grow up in will heavily influence the type of physical strength that you value/develop. If you are experiencing a plateau in your lifts, then consider looking around the globe among different cultures for "new" (new to you) training methods. The body is a common point among all people, so all cultures will have their own history/ideology of physical development.

That's bullshit brother. Just watch today's strongmen and their lifts, you will get an idea of how impossible that feat is. No human can lift 1200 kg to chest height and walk around with it. And you want me to believe that a 5'8'' 110 kg plus guy did that. Hafthor is 6'9'' and weighs 200 plus kg and he lifted The Húsafell Stone which weighs 186 kg, the same way as The Gama is said to have lifted that 1200 kg stone. And if you watch that you can see that it's not light for Hafthor.

The last stone which was labelled '5' is 200KG. The weight classification on the stones are a very traditional punjabi weight system. They use the term 'Maan' which equates to 40KG per unit. So if a stone say's 5 it means its 5 Maan which is 200kg. Or if the stone reads 4 30, that would mean 4x40 (4 Maan)=160kg + 30kg = 190kg

The weight is mostly measured here as KG instead of Lbs. The thing you might see on some stones as 4/10 or 3/20 is the unique ratio system where first number represent 1 mann which is 40kg and the number after is the addition to it. So 4/10 stone is 4*40 + 10kg = 170kg. For additional detail you might want to check Martin Licis chanel where he covered different aspect in detail.

If this seems incredible to you, it is because you have not seen the stone lifters (harrijasotzaileak) from my land, the Basque Country. If you're impressed watching a 380 lb round stone lift, you're going to be speechless when you see one of these lifters do it with a 465 lb round. But you will be even more impressed when you see the rectangular stone lifting record, which is 725 lbs.

I'm Pakistani and I can tell you the weights as they are written in Urdu (Pakistani language). 1st off, that was not Arabian music. That was traditional pakistani music with a "been", wich is a kind of wide flute. The rectangle blocks with "4/_" written on them are 4 mounds. Each mound is 40kg. That makes them 160kg each. The biggest one was at 16:00. That was 5 mounds i.e. 200kg.

Love this sport, i come from a village in Pakistan where this is still a celebrated event, my uncle was famous for his lifting back in his college days. One thing i would love to point out, the ODD LIFTS clips are from India, most likely from south side, so hats off to Indian lifters as well. Gotta give props to our neighbors as well.

Azad Kashmiris practice this a lot. Most people do not understand the neuromuscular system at work here. These guys train for mobility not muscle mass. Ghulam Muhammad, Raheem Sultanwala and Imran Bux were known in Azad Kashmir to lift over 1,000 kg stones. Also Ghulam wrestled well into his 60s and retiring in his 70s. Any British and Japanese accounts will tell you he instantly pinned the toughest guys in 30 seconds flat.
