As a younger teenager who keeps up to date with what is going on in our country all I have to say is that it is sick. The day of the attempted trump assassination I was with my grandparents away from my parents. When I first found out about it I called my parents and as any other teenager would do I told my "friends" what had happened and if they had seen it. What happened after I sent that text I wish I could make up. They had told me to kms and if the person that tried to assassinate trump was still alive they had wished that they had assassinated me too. It is just sick that kids and telling each other those things based on one person and for what they believe in. If you support trump you get death threats (In my case) and if you support Biden then you get to experience their friendship. What annoys me, as a volunteer firefighter is that we all lost a brother no matter the side of the world your on, and this guy says what he said it sickens me, A guy who without a second thought would enter his building, put him from a car, pump on his chest to save his life. It shocks me that my brothers and sisters in the first responder community get shut down and bluntly disregard without a second thought. I hate getting political, but we shouldn't need too. When you hear people just saying "a firefighter or whatever died" then go on to laugh about it. There are a few of us who want him as a punching bag after that statement, but even though he said that, we will still rock up, and save his life. I didn't know that we were on such a low level compared to everyone else. Sometimes I wonder why we do what we do, with all the hate we receive from the people we serve, just makes you question it.

As someone who grew up in Butler PA and was raised just a handful of miles from where this tragedy took place, this historic event has been hard to watch unfold. Most of the responses Brett highlighted here are sickening. I was in first grade when 9/11 happened, one of my first really solid memories is watching the towers fall on live TV from my childhood living room. In the days that followed I remember my mom telling me to look for the "helpers." She showed me pictures of people lining up to donate blood, pointed out how brave the first responders were and we would count the American flags our neighbors put out on their front porch as we drove to church. She said all of those things meant we were united as a country and a people. It might have been the rose-tinted glassed of a 7 year old's perspective, but the response this time is absolutely disgusting. I know there are "helpers" at work - the gofundme's for the victims are evidence of that, but our country seems so broken and divided right now that only an act of God can mend it. I'm thankful Trump was spared and my prayers are with him, all of those effected by this event and that through this our country can try to learn to love their neighbor a little bit more, even if we don't always see eye to eye. EDIT- Another commenter pointed out that the "look for the helpers" concept my mom used was from Mr. Rodgers, and is by no means her original idea. From what I understand, the people I know that have said that it’s staged say that it is exactly _because_ the Secret Service saw the shooter setting up and didn’t do jack, in fact, they let him fire 5 times, and they didn’t properly cover his body or give him protection. They put him in the line of fire _again_ as they carried him off the stage. Because dude was on and off the roof for 30 minutes prior, the adjacent roof, the roof with cops under it, in his Area of Responsibility (AOR)...for close to 30 minutes! That is LITERALLY his only job. Im trying...I'm really trying to not conclude that they deliberately allowed this to happen. Because I dont want to believe that could happen. But theyre making it really difficult to not come to that conclusion. 😕
