When I first saw the thumbnail and title of this video ("The Man who Invented a Single Weapon to Destroy the World") I thought I knew what it was going to talk about and the Man would be Oppenheimer and the invention of nukes. But apparently I was wrong since they later changed it to "The Most Insane Weapon You Never Heard About" *...And I infact never knew about it! **_And wow I did not expect them to be so literal..._* Be prepared with your cute pet photos and duck plushies because I'm afraid there's not much happy times ahead in this comment... 1:24 And let's not forget that this probably isn't an _empty_ pyramid of TNT either. So there's a heart-stopping amount of TNT in there as well. If Minecraft has taught me anything, it's that the insides of things need WWWAAAAAYYYY more stuff in it than you'd think... 1:37 You know what? Just for a sense of scale, let's actually calculate just how many Hiroshima bombs that is. "1 bomb per minute, and it takes you *_15 MONTHS_* to match Sundial's explosivity" So how many minutes are there in a day? 1,440 (60 minutes x 24 hrs) In a Month? Around 432,000 (1440 Mins x 30 days. Yes, some months have more or less days but this is a simplification because I'm not THAT crazy) So in 15 Months, you get about *648,000* Hiroshima bombs, give or take a couple thousand. That is... half a Million Nukes. All packed into one Bomb. 2:17 *Documentaries would like to have a word with you* 4:22 It's really just a classic case of "They have it, so we should too" or for the slightly heroic twist you see in some movies and shows "If WE don't do this morally yikes thing, someone else will, and we can't say for sure if they'll be any better or worse. So atleast let me, the very totally upstanding guy do it because you KNOW you can trust me! Seriously, I don't want to do this as much as anyone else. But like, I kinda have to... anyways, I've gotta go blow up some cities are something." 5:43 *America used "Pocket Star Grenade"! **_It was VERY effec- [Gets vaporised by the blast]_* Also, are we going to talk about the fact their first TEST with one wiped off an entire ISLAND?!? 6:04 I guess you could say the 'Game' of Human Warfare changed to something completely unrecognizable. Instead of long battles with soldiers, tanks, guns, bases, tactics, maneuvers and intel (what a gamer may describe as 'skillful gameplay') suddenly just became a Civilization sized Wild West Duel. Who can shoot their Nuke off first and obliterate their enemies? Except the nukes are slow enough that you can shoot your shot in. After all, if I'M going to die, why not kill them with me? This is the chain reaction they mention at the end of this video where one nuke leads to another till they're all fired and everyone's wiped out. 6:23 You know, I'm starting to think this guy wasn't okay. Oppenheimer invented the first nuke and he was so stricken by grief and terror by what he had made that he basically spent the rest of his life suffering and eventually succumbed to one of the many disease he contracted thanks to his Cosmic Levels of Anxiety. Meanwhile Teller? He just went *"Meh, I thought it'd be bigger, **_Wanna see a REAL Nuke? :D"_* 7:51 Yeah, it's all fun and games to make up massive Doomsday devices and events. I mean, we do it all the time! The Death Star? Awesome idea! Evil OP Robo-Soldiers that hate Humanity? So cool! Crazy Virus that turns us into Mindless decaying versions of ourselves? Moody! But trying to _actually MAKE them with the intention of using them?!? _*_That's LUNACY!_* Teller might as well have been a real life James Bond villain at this point. 8:24 I've just gotta take a moment here to talk about the line "...Larger than the Visible Line..." I don't know about you, but that is an INSANE line to just throw out casually and the fact no one else seems to have recognized the significance of it (atleast as I understood it) is bananas. *So let's fix that, shall we?* Imagine you're standing in the middle of the ocean, or a really flat and empty plain. See how the world just stretches on and on all the way till the Horizon in every direction. Now picture it again filled with stuff. Terrain, nature, buildings, people, all that stuff the world is full of... *All you could see would be vaporized inside just the INITIAL blast of this Bomb. **_Your entire visible world gone in an instant._* And if the graphic they've shown here is accurate, you could put ANOTHER person's Full Horizon touching sides with yours and it'd STILL be covered and vaporized by the initial blast! This Bomb would ensure nothing of the world you've known or that of everyone you've met around you EVER leaves a trace it existed in just it's first second... 9:27 I'm thinking more Frostpunk, just perhaps with a bit of Fallout flavouring in there thanks to the radiation. 9:50 You know you've truly gone too far when even the MILITARY (and the US's at that) tells you that's too much destruction. Of course, I suppose there's not much use of a weapon that obliterates it's users along with it's enemies but yeah. This Bomb would be the equivalent of burning the country down to bare scorched rock because you lost a match with your brother... 10:16 Yeah, it's kinda counter-productive that the "Ultimate Deterrence" is so unbelievably extreme that you don't even know what kind of situation you'd have to be in that would actually warrant using it... So, it kind of deters itself from being used? Then again, eventually people would start trying to play chicken, doing more and more outrageous acts to provoke the Bomb Owners into using it because they'd think they were bluffing or lying otherwise... 10:44 People have tried, but it's not exactly easy convincing Countries worldwide to agree on anything. Let alone on giving up on the ultimate military power that 'protects' them from others who have it. It's a stalemate because not only do you ALL have to agree to make it work, but it'd have to be done at the same time, else that'd leave some countries who already got rid of their nukes feeling "exposed" or "unarmed" in the face of those that still have yet to get rid of theirs. So we're stuck going around in circles with "you go first! No, YOU go first! No way, YOU go first! Nu uh, I'm not going first till HE goes first! Nope! Not me, I ain't going till you ALL go!" 11:32 Knowing us, we'd probably nuke the aliens first out of fear they're secretly trying to invade us. And then each other if we suspect the aliens have already infiltrated our ranks or something... 16:30 I think you were mixing up their line about how SCIENCE is neutral and neither good or bad. WAR is pretty bad... Unless it's in fiction, then it's just fun harmless drama for your characters to suffer through! >:) So uh yeah, there's not really a bright side to this besides that "there's no single doomsday bomb. It's just spread out and could chain reaction together at a moments notice". I guess it's kinda hard to come up with a happy note when everything about this situation is rather bleak. The only real solution is once again, in the hands of the people in power. The very same who are actively WANTING this and reluctant to let go of any 'advantage' they may have over others. They'd also likely be the people hidden away in Underground Bunker Mansions or whatever when the time comes, so they likely wouldn't even be around to reap the consequences of their actions... I guess the only thing we can do here is to go back to Kurzgesagt's other video about Nukes and go through all that stuff they said to put more pressure for Anti-Nuke Movements. (surprised they didn't put that in this video too)

Yeah it’s crazy to think about how this guy came AFTER Oppenheimer…you would think there would be some moral dilemma going on but apparently not! Like I said in the video, no one should have that type of power and to seemingly not care about the outcome is ridiculous in my opinion 😂 Great insight as always! I was blessed with two of your comments today lmfao keep the knowledge train going!

you asked why a ton of times but in the video they say several times that he was so afraid of the nuclear weapons race he skipped to the end and built what he thought was the "ultimate bomb" to just end the race and make everything irrelevant. So in a way the why is... kinda fair, but still need pure logic to do it
@MasterZeroReactsАй бұрын
That doesn’t explain why he actually had that thought process though 😂 “I’m so scared of bombs becoming bigger so I’ll make the biggest!” He literally became the very thing he feared in that instance so I’m still asking why or more so how one single person would determine humanity as a whole, hell even the entire world, is so minuscule that you should build the biggest nuke just because someone else might? That’s like killing a baby because they might grow up to be a murderer. deciding to act upon a hunch or assumptions always ends in negativity. I just can’t mentally wrap my head around that way of thinking 😂
@arkdeso2864Ай бұрын
@@MasterZeroReacts ah i see i see i was thinking he built it cause if he do nobody would be afraid of someone building something even crazier XD Reached the end of insanity to end insanity kinda. though it still require some "purely logical " mind without most common morals to do that.
