There is a reason he is being unapproachable towards certain people and he explained it in many videos. Think of it as a unannounced inspection. If you tell everybody what you're doing, nobody is going to act natural and you will get fake reactions. Some people will even try and sabotage it, by giving other people a heads-up. He doesn't have to answer them if he doesn't want to, and any person with common sense would just stop interacting, if it was so "brutally obvious". I think AP is different than other 1st amendment frauditors. AP retired from a career in photography. It was his job to do things like go out and get cover photos for things like news articles and magazines. Justifiable reasons to record in public. And his rights used to get infringed upon all the time. So naturally when he retired he chose this lane. But he doesn’t go out recording the police and government officials anymore. He’s got a travel channel now where he’s touring the country with his son and they document cities in every state and he gives a lot of promo to businesses in small towns. But of course if someone tries to stop him he’s gonna turn it into content. Which happens here. But most of his followers, including myself, would much rather have good interactions with citizens than bad. And he does. If you watch the majority of his videos since he started doing documentaries on towns, most of the interactions with people are positive. But there’s always one person in each documentary that acts like these people here. With all this said, I can’t stand the first amendment frauditors. They intentionally try to stir the pot to get bad interactions. But AP pushes for good interactions and promo’ing small businesses

One correction, Mr. Duck Most "auditors" don't record "in public places they are allowed to record in" MOST of them specifically target areas that are publicly accessible, but filming is legally restricted like government buildings. The Supreme Court and lower federal courts have upheld these restrictions as legal for 40+ years and not once ruled them otherwise. The auditors specifically go there to cause a confrontation so they can whine about "tyrants" as they are legally trespassed. Some push their luck until they are arrested - but, since it's a minor misdemeanor, most courts don't bother pressing charges. This allows the auditor to convince their audience that "the activity is legal and the cops are tyrants" and that they should send the auditor money "so he can help defending our rights"!

This guy isn't a real First Amendment Auditor, he is just a troll, looking for an easy way to make money on KZbin. The real auditors don't harass the general public. Their goal is to interact with law enforcement, and expose any flaws in policing.

That’s not true, if it a public place you can film. There’s no expectation of privacy in public, that’s a bedrock of our democracy. Anyone can film anywhere they have a legal right to be in public. The plaza could probably get him trespassed for being a jerk to people but they can’t do anything about him filming. How do you think IRL streamers get away with streaming their entire lives out in public. The best thing you can do is ignore them and go about your business so they have no reason to post the video.

Wrong. It isn’t necessarily “illegal” to film on private property without the owner’s permission. That would be a civil case, if anything- not a legal case. There is no wire tapping here, and legality of that in most cases is more of an issue of what type of recording-consent state you live in. Filming kids is also not necessarily illegal. That is an action and as you described it lacks intent-context needed to make any sort of legality claim. Filming permits for a public sidewalk? No. Wrong. He does not need a permit to film. Last but not least, I have not seen him aggressively pressure or intimidate anyone in this video. No broken laws. I’m not trying to be rude, but you should learn about something before you speak so confidently about it.

Not seeing how everyone is in the wrong here. It’s extremely creepy to be filming women and even children as seen in the end of the video. Sure it’s not technically illegal and the gender and age don’t technically matter in what he’s doing but from other side it still comes off extremely predatory and I see why everyone is freaked out.
