Yūki’s leadership. Sekita’s mindset. Tomo’s defense. Ran’s improvements. Taishi’s net defense. But the most surprising was Kento. The young man, started against Brazil over Nishida. He accepted the challenge. Played well thru the guidance of his captain and the trust from his setter. Damn… Japan has improved a lot since Ishikawa took over the captaincy. He sets as an example to his team and encouraged them to play overseas and now the world have seen the outcome of their hard-work. And of course coach Blain, who took the risk of picking Kento over Yuji. The only missing in this match was that they should have put Kentaro over Yamauchi in the 3rd set. Yamauchi was struggling the entire match but a win is a win. They’ve made history for themselves. This is getting interesting tho. Later today they need to start kentaro as Loser is a smart and tough MB.

Once he masters the targeting of block hands as advised by Coach Blain, he will be unstoppable.

They could have ended this in 3. But they got too relaxed in set 3 and lost composure at the end of that set then had lots of serve errors at the fourth. Im happy though that they developed mental toughness not to lose nerve at the crucial set. They have really matured a lot for such a relatively young team and i hope they make it to the finals
@tatsuyasigh1906 Жыл бұрын
It wasn't their fault tbf. Brazil could barely got that 1st ball consistently over the 3m line in the 1st 2 sets. Once they got their service reception down, and their blocks started working, it became a different game
@ari_ed Жыл бұрын
@@tatsuyasigh1906 In my opinion, everything abt Japan is outstanding except for their blocks. Japan have a variety of service: Spike/topspin (Yuji, Miya, Yuki, Ran) ; float (Aki, Ono, Sekita) ; hybrid (Ran), smooth transition n have great spikers n receivers.
@ari_ed Жыл бұрын
@@tatsuyasigh1906 But their blocking system is not quite as good as other team. Sure , Ono does get better, but Aki needs to up his blocking game . I actually thought coach blain will put kentaro in the starting lineup. I mean he's more aggressive at the middle (in spiking n blocking). The first two sets r great due to the service aces, smooth transition, amazing receives/digs as well as explosive attacks but when Brazil came in during the third set, they established great wall upon Japan that pressurized them. I guess Coach Blain saw this n thus put Kentaro in the 5th set . That thus make a different tho bcuz Japan is facing the unfazed experienced Brazilian team. So great move by Coach at the end .

if you have play tournament yourself, you will know about "adrenaline on the edge". Brazil is great team with mentality, it's not your neighbourhood volleyball club.
@tatsuyasigh1906 Жыл бұрын
@@ari_ed I don't think Coach subbed Aki out bc of his blocking (their MBs had too much responsibility in coming outside to help contain Brazil canons, so they couldn't commit to the middle). Aki's main issue was his horrible efficiency in offense. Although to Brazil credit, they really committed to shutting down JP's MBs, even if it meant being late to help outside. I've never seen JP's MBs so thoroughly contained like that
