Roblox horror is something else, man. I never expected a lego brick game about creativity to become this.. deep. It's like you're playing your own psychological horror movie. Edit: I have a theory, so I've played this game before, and it had me thinking for a while The plot isn't all that straightforward as you think, and I've created several theories because of it. Theory 1: The Main character, whom I'll be calling Roland is crazy, and possessed. There's lots of proof throughout the game that can prove this theory. For one, notice the little apparition that has been following him throughout his dreams. (I'll call the apparition Firebrand) Whenever it appears, it brings a lot of negative aura around. It challenges him with depressing scenarios, almost as if it's trying to enervate him, bringing his saddest thoughts closer to reality. Notice how it always appears in his dreams, but in the ending cutscene, when he says "I want to start over again." It's there in front of him, in real life, it's actually there. As if it has been waiting to come out into the real world, when he burns down the village. My theory is that Firebrand is a demon of sorts trying to turn Roland into a "Bad Person" and since it always appears in his dreams, always with him, it's always controlling the dreams, which in turn, controls his psyche. Firebrand is trying to distort Roland's morals and turn him into a killing machine. It also furthers his insanity by bringing up existential crises (Plural) Each and every one of his controlled dreams are dilemmas, paradoxes, and scenarios that make him question his own morals, and use his past trauma of his childhood village to further distort the clear picture, and notice how at the ending, we can see it there with him in the village. To me, this signals that the bond with them is sealed. The possession is completed, and now Firebrand will stay with Roland. Don't think I forgot the girl who told the village about his murder. I'm gonna go ahead and say that it was staged, this is my sub-theory; Firebrand got the woman to intentionally come to his isolated house. The reason why he did so was to make his already bad guilt, worse. Remember, as said by Ronald, the village hated him, and they were glad he was gone, they had no reason to bother him anymore. So, Firebrand decided to make do, by getting the woman to visit Roland's house. My belief is that it used a disguise, possessed another villager, possessing the woman herself, or by going in her head. After the chase scene, we find that she loves in a house isolated from the rest of the village. This supports my theory. Since the village didn't bother Roland anymore, Roland believed that he could enjoy his solitude because no one would really bother him anymore, and that was good, Firebrand wanted that. It finally breaks his trust by leading the woman to his house, and having her rat him out. This event was staged to further his guilt, and further his hatred for the village. It also plants a blind spot of ignorance. Roland doesn't care that she's not from the village, she ratted him out, that's all he thinks he needs to know about her, so he ignores the fact that she's not from the village. ALL ACCORDING TO FIREBRAND'S PLAN. Firebrand has been orchestrating all the occurrences in the story, from the dreams, to the murder, to the chase, and the arson of the village. All of what happened to Roland was staged elaborately, to manipulate him, and trick him into doing bad things. More theories coming soon! ; )

Although your theory is plausible, I don't think he's possessed. Firebrand only appears in his dreams and in front of him because everyone is dead, i think the red fire is there as a manifestation of his conflicted morals and ideas. Whenever he's talking to the red fire, it's only him and firebrand that seem to be in clear of mind. While the Monk and his father lack the red fire's presence. I think the red fire is constantly questioning him what is bad and what is right, the red fire keeps objecting to his own questions as if it wants to jump on different ideas rather than stay on one idea. The girl that saw his secret might as well be another hallucination, because the village doesn't seem to even be bothered, or that even any villagers went there to confront or kill him. Most of the things that say "They know your secret" might be his paranoia of that girl hallucination that someone or he thought someone knew about his secret. One more thing, The Monk is set on the belief that people have karma and is making out that people's lives are actually deeper than it is. The Monk is near water and a blue sky. while His father is excusing these depressing beliefs and says it's bull, and tells him to believe in something. While near a fire and black sky, while not complete opposites, they are opposite to eachother's belief. This is where he finally settles his decision. He decides to start his life over, as he doesn't believe in karma (killing the monk) and settles on enjoying life, (nothing happens to the father). This is why he burns down everything. He believes that the village are a group of bad people, and that they shouldn't take advantage of his misery. In a way, he kills himself by burning down his own life. (The worry of the village and why the corpse that has always lingered in his cave, has disappeared.) "Today is the day" would mean that this is the day where he could decide his belief. He thinks that bad karma will not affect his "new" life. And that he will enjoy life to the fullest, now that he's started anew. (or i'm just yapping and don't know what it properly conveys) (Moreover, at the end, the red fire still thinks of the belief of bad karma, but the MC(or roland ig) himself doesn't believe in Bad Karma, and thinks fully that being good this time around is how he will live in his new life. killing the monk is outright saying to himself that he doesn't believe in karma, and sticks to the simplicity of the two groups that he got from his father. This is also why the red fire accepts his idea. it's roland himself accepting that this time, his past actions will not change what he will do in this new life.) (ANOTHER thing, is that there are roses that keep appearing, in the second of the last visit, there are some roses all over the place. specifically black roses. some sources say that black roses represent rebirth. which gives another idea of the MC or roland has begun anew or has metaphorically reborn himself to get a new life.)
